I was helping a buddy?s work on his barefoot boom and watched him drop the wrench into the lake. I?ve done it. I?ve watched my dad do it. It usually means a stupid hike back to the garage.

Would you buy a floating wrench? ? If a Craftsman 5/8 combination wrench is $9, what kind of premium would you put on a wrench that floats?

Were you offended?:headscratch::p

No, just really wanted him to do some market research before he invested any time and/or money only to later realize the product might already be available and mass produced at a level he can't compete with. that's all.:p

In that case, in regard to the original post, no, I'd buy a magnet on a string.:p;)

I'd done some searching, and did find screwdrivers like you posted. And floating prop wrenches, of course. But no floating open end, box, or combination wrenches.

Dropping a magnet in some lakes will sometimes retrieve the tool, depending on depth, but that can still be a hassle when working on a project.

The floating prop wrench sux.. It's plastic and when you tighten the prop nut it almost strips the wrench before it even gets tight.

and they break in half when you forget your ski rope at home and try to use the floating prop wrench as a handle tied to a 30' rope:rolleyes:. Ask me how I know:grumble:

Maybe a "universal" tool floatie on a magnet that you attach to each tool as it comes out of the toolbox if it's going to be used over water.

I have a big magnet for all the sockets and wrenches I loose in the soft sand while working on toys in Glamis. You drop them and they disappear.:rolleyes:

just keep a snorkel mask in your boat...and stop smoking! Seriously though my gf and I were walking down at the Redondo Pier today and heard a kid ask if the boom operator had googles. Took the kid to our car, gave him our snorkle mask and he was set 5 minutes later he had his car keys that had fallen off the dock. I was about to give him my card (locksmith/security) if he didn't find it and tell him I knew a good locksmith...probably would have been $500 in the pocket but this was more rewarding.

Fixed a couple of wrenches in my boat tool box so they won't sink...

hung over your neck. A rubber band keeps the string neat. Did the same for a utility knife...I loan it to jet boaters that drive over their ski ropes. :D
