We apparently all think alike. My wife and I always say when we win the lotto, the first thing we will do is buy Sundance and turn it into a Restaurant.

Sundance actually has a nice size seating area with booths, etc.. and a full kitchen. Just the last few years they closed off that side of the building and only ran the bar.

If I won the lotto I'd restore it to it's former glory years of the ultimate party spot at night.. But early evening would have more of a Sports Valley feel to it.

Didnt the whole inside burn up? I thought the actual building was just a shell.

Last year I took a jet ski over to the pontoon boat and unscrewed some old wooden signs that were inside. One is a " We reserve the right to throw troublemakers off the boat" & the other says " There is a 5.00 charge for loudmouths". Little handpainted signs, no biggie but wanted a souvenier from the Sundance before they tore her down. They are on the wall of my place up there. Didnt think anyone would mind since the boat is ready to sink anyway.

Shortly after completing the New Sundance, Jim gave us an impromtu tour, the seating on the ledges seemed to be at a strange height, When asked about it he pulled back a rear seat cushion to expose electrical receptacles.... SLOT Machine ready ... never going to happen.

It'll always be a wonder why the place ultimately failed, and Foxes and RR carry on.
I'd wager a combination of at least 6 big reasons, and maybe a dozen more little reasons.

I was sitting chattin' with Kenny at the Desert Bar and his take was the "floating bars aren't the goldmines people think they are."

Kenny also added he had the "luxury of operating only on my [Kenny's] most profitable days,, and be closed ALL the rest."

--- --- --- ---

If the Sundance was suddenly in my ownership,, I'd shoot for a Hotel/Bar/Limited restaurant kinda dealio.
But the neighbors would now probably put the nix on that.

I watch the Del Rio bar struggle to stay open (and several others) and the thought of ever dumping money in a river bar/grill business quickly exits my pea sized brain.

few things about sundance.... they had an auction few yeasr ago so theres nothinn g in it to run a bar or resturant any more....

Jim has blue prints for a hotel but theres no sewer there so it never got approved...

in the late 90 and early 2000's on the 3 good holidays it would bring in $1000.00 in bus but when you have a $15,000 a month morgage thats hurts....

also when Jim was running it the river road was the 95 high way to Havasu so everybody drove by it and stopped on the way....

the shuttle need a captain license to drive it for the shuttle from camp to camp...

now in the 2000's everybody started buying house and trailers where its to far to drink and drive... all the bars are seeing this...

foxes and RR have camp grounds and camp grounds around them to help pay the bills....

the only way to make money is buy it right with cash and not hacve a morgage...

that place is still the only one with a lig. license for entertament so no resturant needed.. thats like gold if its still good which i thinks its been laps....

i remember camping and red rock in the later 90's like 95 and up and walking over standing in line for hours to get in.... then when the twins bought the place i also us to bounce and and bartend fun times

What if the owners split the property and someone just bought the lower bar on the water. Just add a few out housed on big weekends and clean things up a bit and your golden.

Plenty of dock space

I remember in the 1970's you could pick your steak and cook it yourself!

Brent

Brent, I don't remember cooking your own steaks at Sports Valley... but I do remember a cool restaurant up by the dam called Winner's Circle that you cooked your own steaks, but that was back in the 70's/80's. I think it's the same building that Paradise grill is in...

I think the cook your own steaks was at the Polnesian Village and they were before the Winners Circle (Moonridge Marina is there now )

Hey all. Took a few pics of the old girl this summer, its sad to see what she's become! I used to love riding the quad to the top of the dunes behind Echo, in the middle of the night, with a few cold beers, look at the stars and listen to the bands play all night. Man those were great old days!!!

Anyone have any old pics of the place? How about when it was a floating bar?? Yeah I know, that was way before digital cameras!!!

Wow, that is sad to see Sundance in that shape. My friends and I used to go there when we were young enough to enter the wet t-shirt contest. Good fun.
