Whatever size you think you need, buy the next one bigger.

Compare costs of the wear items when you are shopping.

Don’t buy any of the chinese knock off shit.
Buy direct or thru HD? HD has a pretty good selection.

Doesn’t look like they make an electric unit. You might have to go gas and trash the environment.
Hey Island boy. Go get your guys moving again on site. You know they arent working regardless of gas or electric tools. Lol

Buy once cry once 😉. Company builds some nice stuff and have been in the industry a long time, it’s all they do.

Silly question but why not just rent one as needed? Leave the storage and maintenance to someone else. Depending on size of stumps I bet you could do 6 or 8 a day with no problem.
Good insight. I am not sure but if i clear a lot of the cedars out it will be used a LOT

I think I would check rental costs

How much for a day Week etc

Chop down a few trees then rent one to see how it does….

A quick google search they are 10k to 40K

If your set on buying one stop by rental yards to see what they have and They might sell one. Then that gives you a service/ parts supply location

NOTE -

How do you want to use the land? Create ag space or just thin out trees

What are your expectations?

Remove root systems
Or
just cut down below the ground surface

Possibly clear some trees.

Get those stumps below ground level

I think a 2-3k grinder from HD will do the job. Depends on how many trees i take down. There are probably 30 srumps above ground right now. If I had to guess there are about 50 trees I could take down. Leave the trees along the parameter and clear out inside that. Just a guess while drinking some beers. Lol

Another idea- what about a mini excavator instead? I rented a stump grinder ONCE because the dipshits that did the footings for my solar array didn’t remove the stumps (or grind them) and they were re-growing before the footings were poured. I’ve removed a shit ton of oaks at my house. I cut them down, buck and chip what fits, then remove the stumps with the mini X. Sometimes I haul them off to a green waste, other times I bury them in the pasture.
Stump grinders suck IMO
Rent the mini X and do some other projects too. Just another thought.

I got this stum to remove. It's on top of the city water main. 3' from my water meter. And next to the sewer lateral to street. Afraid to pull it out with my Skidsteer.

Wasnt there a commercial about a guy shopping for a chain saw and the clerk said do you have any experience with this type of equipment?

The guy says, I used to cut in the Mohave forest
The clerk says, the Mohave is a desert
Guy says, it is now.

This is the way. It's taken all of my will power to not buy a mini-ex because I love operating them. I have rented one on 4 different occurrences since buying the property nextdoor. 100% wouldnt own property without a small front end loader tractor. Something with a 3pt hitch and pto to use a brush-hog and a box scraper. Skid steers are neat, but I wouldn't own one for home use.

Most recently I took out two large pepper tree stumps along the fence between the two properties. I hate nothing more than people burying shit in the ground for some poor bastard to find later. Maybe I'm bitter because someone buried a significant portion of what appeared to be a demolished single wide in the backyard of this property I had to dig up and dispose of right after buying it and doing some grading.

When you cut a tree down, leave a good 6' of the trunk exposed for leverage for sump removal. In the free state of Texas, I would make a stump/burnpile and have a rager this winter.

I'm actually trying to buy a mini ex right now also. There is one down the street that might or might not be for sale. Apparently the owner owes a ton of money to the wrong people. If he will part with it for the right price, he might have a small dent in his debt.

Chain it up to the back of that minivan and hit the gas. Sucker will come right out.
He doesn't have a hitch lol. I have my diesel here but even that would get stopped in its tracks. If there was nothing under it. My backhoe attachment would make quick work of it.

Another thing to check out is look up Ritchie Brothers Auctions, it’s nothing but equipment, lots and lots of equipment of all kinds. There is one in Vegas, Florida, California, etc. As big as Texas is good possibility there is one there too.
I understand the renting thing cause no maintenance, no big money outta pocket and all that, but…..when you want to use it right now you don’t have to call around to see who has one available, deal with having it delivered if you don’t have a trailer, watching the clock for over charges, runs like shit and you spend half a day trying to unfuck what their “mechanic fixed” and arguing with them on the phone, dull blade/cutter heads and fighting the tool and on and on.
When it’s yours it’s taken care of, you know it’s maintained, and it’s there anytime you feel like using it.
And then you can higher yourself out to your neighbors and charge them for equipment and operator $$$……cause you know they are going to ask to barrow it!!! 😁

My advice: get way ahead clearing your trees - then hire a guy with a midsized (10 ton+) excavator.
He'll do in 2 hrs what would take you 2+ days with the Vermeer above or 2 weeks with a Home Despot rental.
I'd think this would be your best bet 👍

You’re in Texas so you may have some good old fashion ways of getting rid of them. My dad’s gardener drilled holes in his ficus stump. Like multiple 3/4” holes with a butterfly bit.

He poured gas in the holes once a month for like 6 months. Then he set up a small pyramid of charcoal on top of the stump and lit it on fire. 12 hours later the stump and most the roots slowly burned away.

Mini-ex's have been mentioned already, but what other types of equipment are you thinking of? My brother in law has a dirt work side gig. One of the attachments he has for his skidsteer is a massive stump grinder. If you were looking to get a tractor, that may be an option as well.

So I contacted a company to clear land in KY and he said that he leaves tree up digs a hole at the base on fell side of tree and pushed it over stump and all one motion pulls them out cuts top and bottom bla bla bla .

I thought that was a smart way of doing it if you have room.

Did he also add water to the dug hole and leave it for a bit?

It would be a slow process but sounds like a via alternative
