Here's the only contact you need...
Dustin @ New way plastering
1/951/241-4828
Dustin and his dad have been doing work for me for the last 25yrs. Dustin was just at my house tuning up my retaining walls and stuff 3 weeks ago. He's done work for a couple others on the boards here I've referred him to. I think @FCT was one of them? Not certain, been a few years now. He has a great crew and he's very reliable.

Give me a call when you’re ready 818-402-2769

HI Dave

Any pros / cons for synthetic stucco color coat in Havasu? Sand finish

Looking for your opinion

We did a synthetic stucco color coat in Escondido ( 2019 ) and it’s great ! You can press wash and it’s back to NEW again

Looking to do it to the Hava house And thinking w/ expansion / contraction it would be great …..

Thoughts

If it’s done correctly yes it’s very durable.
From the limited experience I have in havasu I didn’t see much that impressed me with the plasters in havasu.

Not to thread jack but why do most houses in Havasu have that texture/rough finish instead of a smooth finish? With all the sand and dirt and dust that can blow around, don't you want the smooth finish so you don't wind up with dirty walls?

I believe …. ( disclaimer )

the rough is a more course sand ( gritty) and that bonds better, holds together better & more bite

A smooth is a fine sand and with expansion ( heat ) it cracks / separates, less bite

I’m not a plaster / stucco guy

It’s Like sand paper

A 200 grit doesn’t remove very much material less bite

An 80 grit removes a lot material more bite

I could be way off base

Smooth finish the most expensive finish and to do it properly you need to do a slip sheet over the brown coat to reduce the cracking that occurs with smooth finish.
In LA it adds a lot to the price of the job.
Regular stucco is about 65-75 a yrd now and to do smooth with mesh adds 50 more a yrd.

It all comes down to cost. If people are willing to pay it then it’s a go to finish.
I would say 90% of my work is smooth now a days
