64 of the fastest pro mod cars in the world were trying to get in a 32 car field at the winter series race 1 of 3 in Bradenton Florida over the weekend. 3 or 4 of the no-prep king racers were in attendance to try to get in the field..This race brought in the best of the best of cars and more importantly TUNERS to the show. So KYE KELLY from street outlaw fame was able to slice and dice through the field to land in the finals where he was able beat his opponent running a 3.59 pass at 208 mph in the eighth mile..The things that are incredible about him and his car winning are items like , he is in a steel roof and quarter panel 79 iroc Z while his competitors were all in super lightweight carbon/kevlar hot rods loaded with titanium parts and assorted high tech operating systems. Kye can chop dpwn the tree like few can so that was very helpful for him.. this was an awesome race to watch and the series will be awesome if you are into drag racing at a very high competive level this series is it..cars with doors hauling ass !! I will watch this over top fuel and funny car all day long.. flo sports is televising all the races if you have that subscription..GOOD JOB KYE !!

He went a PB early in the week and it really seemed to change his outlook of “let’s see if we can compete” to “we have a car that WILL compete”

Congratulations to Kye and his team.

This race is a great race. It is a "chip draw race." It doesn't matter where you qualify, as long as you are in the top 32, the pairings are done by chip draw.

Kye's car is within 2" of stock wheel base, while the pro mod cars are all stretched, widened, and etc.

The "steel roof and quarters" are a cool talking point however they all weigh the same and that is all that matters.

I guess the Noonan screw blown hemi makes more power than the Pat Musi nitrous "deal"....

There was recently a wreck of one of the cars (NPK cars) (the car skidded on the roof), you could clearly see that the body was "carbon fiber" with a "steel skin" bonded on top of the carbon.

I watched the weekend on Flo racing. It was crazy that a 3.65 was on the bubble of a 32 car field and a 3.59 was #1. They need 3 numbers after the decimal point, it is that tight. Crazy. Never would have paid attention until I became a Cleetus fan.

Driver's race for sure. I saw one race with identical times to the .000 but a reaction time difference of .025. The finish line difference was Huge! It really was an eye opener to a mostly casual fan.

Something else that is part of the mix is the fact that no 2 cars are the same..a pro mod car has so many parts and the likelyhood of 2 cars with all the same parts is nearly impossible.. There is many hemi combo's , transmission choices , torque convertors , rear gears, chassis designs the list goes on and on..But they are all collecting data from several sensors that enables the tuners to exploit every bit of power at the time its needed... Front shock sensors tell the computer when the wheels are in the air and can kill a bit of timing so the driver doesnt have to lift . driveshaft sensors to monitor tire slip so that can be addressed by the computer , shift points thru thr run it goes on and on. This year with my buddies car he spent roughly 30k on flying in and paying a tuner at all his races.. crazy harnessed horsepower wars !!

A few years ago I was talking with Jerry Malicoat...old school guy that went "modern" after retirement. He was explaining (or trying to) to me how much data they gained with every pass, and what they did with it. Their car was a converter Lenco, twin turbo late hemi. They used the ECU to control timing, fuel and even waste gates to maintain traction. Truly mad scientist stuff to me. The concept of a .9xx 60ft is just mind boggling!

I forget that all the data and such isn't "common knowledge", (I am no expert but I have read and watched a lot of this type of racing.) So much data, it is amazing. "Traction control" used to be "cheating" it is necessary now days.

Mark Mickey went damn near 217mph in the second round, then went 3.59 @ 217 in 3rd round. HUGE turbos!!! 🤣
Mark is the turbo guru. He invented the new electric turbo wastegate. It is a game changer. He has been the MPH record holder since they got the hang of the turbo game.

As opposed to fuel teams that get together and order hundreds of the same rods pins springs pistons etc in group buys.

Yeah the E-Gates are badass! If my junk doesn’t sell I think I’m going to move to bigger gates and am real tempted to go E. I don’t require a ton of boost off the bottom so it comes up on the limiter easily, but I can certainly see where the gate on the charge tubes would make things easier to get on the brake as well!

I have nothing in the game but a fan. I remember a couple of years ago when the egates were new and then illegal. they are the real deal.

Why were they illegal? Seems more accurate, but still the same as running solenoids to control waste gates and blow off valves. The first time I saw that was on the Malicoat car 5-6 years ago, but I've been out of the loop for a long time.

It’s amazing how fast those street outlaw cars have become. Kelly and Martin are at the top. A while back Murillo was here in Tucson with his Mustang and he ran against the old Penzoil alcohol funny car that my bud Tony D drives and Murillo literally left him. It was like that Mustang was glued. Funny car was starting to catch him at the end but it never had a chance. Crazy shit

Didn’t he get back w his ex wife and wasn’t she w earndhart when she passed?
Yea but he’s been pretty open about his feelings towards her specially since she passed.

Definitely helped he had a serious bad sob running the keyboard, but he’s also a great driver that has no give up in him. His YouTube channel is excellent specially the antics he plays with his guys and the other NPK guys like Disco.

I feel like he kind of did her dirty at the worst possible time 🤷‍♂️ I’m not a big fan

I don't remember where but I feel like I read somewhere that NPK is going to do their own streaming thing...

In other NPK news I saw today. Shawn Ellington aka "Murder Nova" is going to run a Pro Mod in the Drag Illustrated "Winter Series". The car is owned by Keith Hainey. It is supposed to be a clone of Mark Micke's car. Micke will be tuning the car.
