Last time this occurred Davis Dam didn't let out much water. The river was a trickle!
Was that done to keep the volume down and allow for the river to absorb the flow from the land and cause damage to the homes by flooding/overflowing?

Yes but they anticipate it dying as it moves up from Baja
It was thirty years ago today that Hurricane Alicia hit Houston. I lived in NW Houston, 60 miles from landfall. It rained nine inches at my house in the following 36 hours, and more than a dozen tornados hit the area.

The winds will moderate when Hilary arrives in California, but there will still be a shitload of rain. You guys might not be chuckling on Tuesday afternoon.

I know we won’t be chuckling but unfortunately what can we do? Sandbags aren’t gonna save shit at that rate of rain.

Call me whatever ypu want but...yeti is full of ice. Portable batteries are charged. 8 cases of water, some added groceries. All this tookl under 1 hour.
Water doesn't go bad. Ice is ice. Gas is going to be used regardless.
I dont think it's going to be a big deal but...I've also been evacuated for fires that started 30 miles away.

Now I'm off to dinner. Get lit. Drive with my lights on to a pool hall. With my lady Mrs RR. No uber.
'Get lit' means have a soda with caffeine. Don't jump to conclusions

Living in Houston, when a hurricane threatened, everyone hauled ass to the grocery store. So there I am just hours after the announcement, and the shelves containing crackers and peanut butter are bare.

And I'm thinking WTH? If the power goes out for a week, eating peanut butter and crackers isn't on my menu. There's still an entire store full of non-perishable food. People are funny.

Shit is hilarious. My daughters first day of school is Monday and they sent this ridiculous text of how they might cancel school. Wtf.

Idiots have no clue on how hurricanes are fueled. They need Warm water!

What is the media distracting us from this time?

FWIW Hilary is showing a Vapor Tail the extends across the Pacific to Fiji. That's how it is receiving its moisture. That's one hell of a Vapor Tail. The Southern CA Weather Force guy is currently doing a live feed on FB. Appears to be drinking Coors Light in the bottle. Can't be a bad thing.

It could be nothing to everything. We were down to 10 bottles of water anyway grabbed a little extra food and filled the cars up, tomorrow morning I will get some gas in my gas can for the generator, if it doesn't get used in the generator I will put it in my car next week. Worst case for us would be no power for a day or two tops

Needs to 80+. My weather forecast for Sunday in North San Diego is showing 1" of rain with winds up to 17MPH. I still say the news media is overblowing this storm.

Yep. National weather reports are calling for 2.5-4, yet the weather station a few blocks from my place in Carlsbad with a historical accuracy percentage of 94%, is calling for 1 to 1.5 and winds gusts into the 20.

Catch 22. God forbid it turned and hit LA. Then everyone would cry that we had no warning lol.

IBEW workers do

draw a circular on your hood, if 3 drops land in it in 3 minutes, too much rain go home. If not, draw a bigger circle.
Not all of us! I actually watched some journeyman do this like 12 years ago and it blew my mind. Told them it pays better at work than home! I had just organized in from the non union. Needless to say it was was really easy to go right to the top company wise with a non union work ethic. I'm a medium voltage cable splicer(1000 to 35,000 volts) and a superintendent now.

In Socal, we will get a 1/4 inch of rain, with a lot of shots from the news showing water tricking down a gutter..

Storm Watch! 🤡
I'm sticking with my prediction..
Hope I'm wrong, I'd love a great downpour with some lightning and thunder..

In the last hour, I have gotten the Spectrum Internet service warning that service could drop on Sunday, an SDGE warning that power and gas should be impacted and the city stated the water could be impacted.

"Medium voltage", "1000 to 35,000 volts"

I just ran a new sub panel in an outbuilding...typical 220 stuff...about shit myself when touching the thing and thunder cracked outside and the lightning flashed through the windows.

It wasn't even conected yet on the other end🤣
