So what happens now? You get your boat back but let's say it's scratched or worse (missing equipment etc). Does insurance just cover it and go after the thieves?

I really want too see who they were and connected too. I doubt this was some tweaker looking for his next fix. I am just glad they did not gut it and dump it. Any idea what motor/ drive was on it? Or stereo gear? Given it was at stereo shop it could have been taken for that( not saying the shop is envoled, )

It'd be better if he was charged in Az by the way. Property crimes in Ca? Meh, no biggie. Prop 47, prop 57, AB109 makes it a field day for thieves here. Probably get time served (and I'm not being sarcastic).

I just read that according to Ron's audio, the owner was supposed to send someone to pick it up a week ago and they never showed. Also said that owner hasn't paid bill............

Sounds like an insurance job to me.

The plot thickens. I swear the boating industry has got the best but most wtf stories

Man can you imagine if he paid someone to steal his boat? Man the blowback....🤦🏼*♂️

Hopefully it was just thieves but story does sound fishy.

It was coming back into Riverside from Norco; that's kind of the back route from the 15 freeway/6th Street/Arlington Avenue.

I would not be suprised if SANCATT auto theft taskforce jumped in on this. All prosecution will be in Riverside County.

On a few social media threads someone observed in the first photo is was an f250 hauling it. Then the arrest photo was a 4 door chevy and it was covered. Must have changed hands once...

I would think that since the theft occurred in Arizona, it would be an AZ case. Just because it was recovered in CA doesn't mean it would be a CA case. I don't really know I'm just thinking out loud. ;)

That isn't uncommon at all in Havasu. People try to drop their boats off at Rons, Absolute Speed and Marine, Barrett Custom Marine, and so on for something super easy. They do it so they pay $50 for two or more weeks of storage in Havasu. They leave the cover for the boat to be covered and such. Most shops now offer pick and delivery to keep people with houses or storage from leaving their boats there for weeks.

This aint nothing new.

I remember reading that something like 86% of all boat thefts the owner is involved in someway or another. That sound right?

My wife saw on FB this morning that someone saw that boat on the 10 in Indo yesterday morning so keep an eye out So Cal.

I saw it too. Headed west towards Indio.
I just didn't think it could possibly be the same boat when I read this thread initially.

Your personal boating insurance will handle the claim and if they feel like it THEY will go after the property insurance to split the bill.

I'd love to hear the rest of this recovery story.

Taboma, they can be charged with felony possession of stolen property in Ca and grand theft in Az. :thumbsup
Kommifornia they will just get a ticket for that

That's awesome they found it, guess Ron will be rethinking his security......... I know I wouldn't leave my boat there.

I've seen boats left out front for days, or on the street. I wouldn't leave my boat there either.

Would the fact a stolen property was taken across state lines increase the charges?

The suspects caught with the boat in California will likely be charged with receiving stolen property but in order to prove that the suspect has to have knowledge. that comes through good interrogation of them and all involved witnesses.

It's unlikely anyone will ever be charged with theft because you have to prove beyond a reasonable doubt a particular individual actually was in Lake Havasu and stole the boat that day and timE.

Sad part is in California that do proposition 47 there's no mandatory state prison for any theft or receiving when the value of the property is below $100,000,exceptions would include prior theft convictions and things of the sort.
