Stoker made two style decks for the 224. A new style (like Riverbounds) and the original maybe bill can post pics of each style
Some of you guys probably know better than me,I thought the 224 was a slightly different bottom than the old 22SST?
I know my personal taste prefers the style and lines of the SST.

This is the latest (newer) design top. I have a pic of my buddies on my phone somewhere. Original design. Let me try and find it so you can see the diff...

the 224 is longer end to end. At the rub rail. Bottom is the same.

To clarify Stoker made two different 22 foot boats The original bout the dates back to 1984 is the SST22 this is what people are referring to as the "old" deck. In 2000 I'll redesigned the deck and came out with the 224 which back in the day he used to referred to as the "euro" this is the "new" deck the people are referring to. Up until now closed up shop year ago you could order either version of this 22 foot Stoker. The differences you would either order a SST 22 or you would order a 224 The bottoms were the same. This also rings true for the 20 footer

I might be mistaken but I think the mold for the SST deck was damaged. Not sure if it was destroyed or not.

As far as I know from talking to Al, there's different molds for the SST22 (Outboard) and the 224 (I/O) ... I believe we have a total of 5 (somewhere lol)

Bill, the 20 and the 204 are different bottoms, the 204 being the definite slower but better riding of the two. But yes, while the shop was open you could buy either hull.

And can anyone jump in these boats and safely drive them or is it something that takes seat time. Does it drive like a v or a cat?

I learned how to drive a boat in one at 11 years old. But, you can definitely hurt yourself and one.

I would have to say the answer would be they handle like all of the above. LOL

He posted the 20 molds.

Who is that guy?
I see two complete sets of molds (stacked) and another deck?Looks like the SST and the newer 20.Could the other deck be the 22?
It's been so long now since I was around those molds I'm not sure but was there a dedicated outboard 20sst mold with a well and another deck mold without for an inboard application?

I would beg to differ on the bottoms being different.. But the 204 and that 224 are generally slower because they are heavier.

Anyone can jump in them and drive them to a point, then it takes seat time to get the most out of them. They handle more like a cat than a V, and ride great for their size and weight. Very predictable until you want to stretch them out, then you need to know what you are doing.

I would probably need some time then. First time in a cat although I really liked it, it would take some time to really feel comfortable. Actually now that i think about it I'm just barely getting really comfortable in my boat. Less oh shit moments anyways [emoji12]

Correction from my earlier post... I know of at least one 20 IO that ran a Blackhawk, but they were very rare. [emoji3] I will try to get you some info on it later tonight. Don't think many know about it.

I would beg to differ[emoji3]... There have been a few 20 IO's built... One running a Blackhawk at over 120. Al built another IO 20 last year that was getting rigged with a TT LS motor outside of their shop. I will find some pics later tonight. They had to build a ridiculous looking engine cover for it.

I do stand corrected on those two. It was never really something he offered. Just like there are some "race" bottoms that acre completely different than what you could walk in his shop and buy. Bowden and Roth are two locally that have these "different" bottoms on a 20.

There was also a different "race" deck.

But now we are getting into one off/extremely limited build type stuff.

Yeah, who knows exactly what they have really done... And the boat I was talking about in that quote was a 224, not a 20. My bad. That's why I changed my post. Still looking for the IO info though.

Ok. That makes sense. I remember al telling me about some new project. I thought it was a 22' but there have been many many parties since then and I could have been confused. Lol.

This is the one I was thinking of... One of the best looking boats they made IMO...

This is the best question of the night...

The answer is: it depends! lol

If you have a 20 with an outboard and a transom jack, you absolutely need LOTS of seat time to get the most out of the boat. I think Bill will remember this too:

There was some guy years ago who posted he couldn't get the boat to go over 75mph! The reason was, he had no clue how to drive the boat. I've pushed my friends first 20sst to 90 a couple of times with just me in the boat. They are VERY susceptible to weight changes. Add a couple of people and two full tanks of fuel, and they will NOT go that fast. They are sensitive bitches for sure. They also take some seat time to get em to turn on a rail. So, you can drive this hull safely, if you just keep it trimmed in and jacked down, but you will be disappointed in the speed department.

The 22 with the I/O is a whole lot more forgiving. P/S makes it an absolute pleasure to drive. And you don't have to be focused on a jack plate and trim to get it to ride just how you want. Just keep your eye on the trim and the "feel" of the boat. It's not a difficult boat to drive at all, but you will need to ride around with someone like RB or me, to get the most out of the hull. It's more of a point and shoot boat, where the 20 OB takes some skilz and serious seat time. :)

How they ride is a whole different story...

This is not a deep V hull. It's feels more like a flatty to me than anything else. It's best with some slight wind chop, it will fly with those conditions. Glass water actually slows it down. With some real chop, you only have one choice; get out your balls, leg it and stay on top of the chop. It will beat the shit outa you if you don't!

If you have any experience driving a flatty, you'll feel right at home in a Stoker.
