You’re buying at the right time. There are a TON of really nice cars at a great deal. I’d do a 72” wide car for stability. Find one that has some suspension upgrades, harnesses, bigger wheels/tires. Cage, radio/comms, navigation are a plus. It’s a coin toss between Razor/Can Am.
My BIL has a 2014 NA Razor with decent suspension. Thing is a beast. Turn key, runs great all day long. Our 2017 Can Am has been awesome. Basic maintenance, knock on something.

Good point Zach. Maybe you and Vic need to come on up to Havasu between Christmas and the 11th of January and go for a ride. I alwaus have 2-3 seats available and would be willing to go for a ride. @Bpracing1127 just took me on a 160+ mile ride that was a blast. @BHC Vic could sort out his likes and wants in a day like that. It would be blast!!!!! Let’s do it!!!! Have space if housing is needed.
I wish. We are booked out till Feb right now 😂

Lots of opinions here. After reading the thread imo, a nice low mile XP1000 sounds like it would suit your routine. 2 seat cars are a lot cheaper, but if you can swing a 4 seat car I’d go ahead and do it. Cut your teeth on the XP for a couple years before you move up to modern long travel car. 🤷🏼‍♂️ Good luck with your search

With age comes the cage.......................................with old age comes the Jeep🤣🤣🤣
Jeeps are comfy and if you set them up right can rally. Here is a shot of me wringing out my wife’s grocery getter over Thanksgiving. Only draw back to the jeeps is they are slow, really slow and will not keep pace with sxs’s. But when it’s cold or dusty or hot or you want to break out a bbq and have a good meal, the jeeps are the best.

I've seen quite a few RZR Xp4's for a deal with cage and other upgrades all ready done. I have a 2017 with around 4100 miles and still having fun with it.

How old are the kids?

We had a Tyrex4 when they first came out, I wish I still had it. It was not a race car, but it was comfortable on the trail, would go anywhere and never broke down. Adults fit in the back seat comfortably.

We have a CanAm X3 2 seater currently. I waffle on selling it. It performs flawlessly and is plenty fast for my wife and I. The exception is the one trip to Glamis a year, where I feel I need more. It's a great car, but there is something about being made of plastic that concerns me.

We took our kids on some ridiculous jeep trips well into their teens, but it was always at a slow speed and they got out and walked on any difficult obstacles. How fast do you really want to go with the kids in the rig?

I think it really depends on what you want to do with the family? I don't think they will all get the same enjoyment as Dad driving fast through whoops and climbing hills.

As I get older I question some of the dumb situations I put my family in.

A buddy of mine is selling his and even has a bench in the back. He keeps all his stuff in great shape. I tagged your post on his FB page.

You know that really is something tho think about. If it’s for the family like I’m saying how fast exactly do they need to go. I think that will help steer my decision

Since this is your first side by side, you don't want to try and find the limits of the machine with them in the backseat. And trust me, it's real easy to keep pushing that skinny petal until you find those limits.

I would recommend function over form for this one, and then figure out what direction you want to go after a season or two. You may love it and want to get your own high performance two-seater, and let Mama and the kids cruise around in the four-seater.

Dude take this information and do with it what you want. I’m a 2 wheel guy at heart but this new batch of SXS like our turbo s makes it harder each trip to want to gear up to ride the bike.

We do no kids rides on almost every trip and the guys with the stock base model cars typically skip those trips our jump in with me or one of the other newer cars.

YOU will drive it more than you think. If you go with a slower lower level model and end up the slowest ride in your group you’ll hate it and so will the wife.

I have an XP1000 4 seat, it has stock suspension with a spring kit. It's on 32" tires with a clutch kit, cage, radio etc. I have not found a group that I couldn't keep up with. The only place I need more power is in the dunes. I also don't enjoy nor go places where I'm pounding 3' whoops for miles on end. If I am doing that it's in the race truck.

I just bought a Kawasaki Mule Pro 1000 FXT. It's a six seater. I bought it primarily to service the property as it can carry 1000 lbs with a dump bed and tow 1500 lbs ( Sea Doo and trailer). Trail riding is a distant 3rd to servicing the yard, and cruising for ice cream with the grand kids. It's not gonna keep up with the fast guys, but you'll be well ahead of the Jeeps. I just bought a '24 with a 6 year warranty. It was an easy choice for me.

Not sure if posted yet, but Griner has a non turbo 1000 for $16k right now with aftermarket (looks like TMW) cage, PRP seats with harnesses and bench. Looks just like my 2017 turbo but half the price.

100% disagree.
We are the slowest in the 1000 in our group, but my daughter drive a 900, so we don’t care.
Everyone we ride with knows, we will show up, just later. They wait or they take 2 breaks we take 1.

@BHC Vic - get a car you are OK with financially. If you like the rides, etc, then you upgrade. No reason to spend 35-45k on your first car.

That looks like a deal.
If I can’t rebuild my daughters 900 this off season, I am sending Griner to find her a replacement.

It's a great deal and a great looking car. Didn't even mention in my post all the suspension upgrades and the fact that it looks very well cared for. Smoking deal IMO. 2300 miles for a 2014 is nothing.

Spend a little extra cash and get something that’s capable of doing more than you need. Way cheaper and easier in the long run.

You have been known to squeeze the most out of your rides…

You can grab a Kawasaki Teryx 4 new or used for under 15k. I have mine it has been pretty solid. It’s loud, tops out at 50 mph, suspension does the job though, and they have a reputation of being pretty reliable. Maintenance is easy. Me and the kids like it.

I’ve ridden in a 900 around camp. No thanks!

But glad your enjoying family time all though a little slower and rougher.

Quite a few RZR 1000. 4 out there in the 14-17 yrs from $14k-$16k on market place. In those years the arctic cats had the best stock suspension especially 16 and up. Several on market place under $15k.
may be a scam but under 500 miles.

Unless you plan on keeping them at the river pad, how do you haul (2) SxS and all the dirt bikes?

Consider the whole hauling thing as well if you decide to spend a little more than the original budget on a nicer and probably wider car.
Trailer? A bigger one! 😂

Mama can follow you in the Jeep, and carry the noise makers so you can concentrate on driving 😉😇

Behind the new enclosed that’s coming next! Keep up.. we r spending Vic’s money here!

Vic you don’t need the latest and greatest and fastest like some are suggesting.

You need reliable and in your budget.

Remember half of these guys thinks it’s a race when they go riding and don’t have a back seat full of kids.

Maybe I’m just getting old but hauling ass in these tin can frames POS with my kids in the back sounds like a great way to have a bad day. Mostly because of other dip shits out there.

Walked into Jet World Yesterday to buy a couple fresh, quality batteries.

Walked around the showroom exiting,,,,,, 4 Seat Can Am R ,,,, $53K!
They are nice indeed but that's twice the price we paid for the X3 Max.

That's a big drink of water.

Yep... you're not going to hit them,, they are gunna hit you.

Didn't get pix but we camp near a spot the kids call "Point Panic." Read that: Near.
People are full throttle along the trail then if lucky, slam on the brakes when they realize a drainage crevice across the trail that wipes out their front suspension.

When slow moving families or groups with an adult at the lead, kids in the middle and adults following pull over on a trail to let us pass we pass real slowly and respectfully and appreciatively.
Most people out there are courteous.

There are some nice SxS sitting in garages in BHC. I bought mine for the price of the accesories alone not including labor. My neighbor just bought a CanAmX3 4 seater for a great deal. Both were older guys getting out of the sport. Nice thing about private party in AZ is no sales tax.

Majority of my friends that bought non turbo x3 ended up selling to go turbo.

With great power comes great responsibility… so don’t get a tuner yet.

It really just depends on what kind of group you run with....if you hang out with a bunch of d*ck swingers, then you are going to want the fastest sxs available so you arent the last one to the next race checkpoint beer stop....if you run with a more family oriented group, with kids on smaller bikes or smaller sxs's, then you don't need the fastest car available you just need something comfortable and reliable....

Transmission bearings at 2500 miles and up. Do them now 1000$ vs 3000+ when. It grenades
That year could have issues with front diff

All years could have issues with intercooler (more rare tho)

Other than that it’s just maintenance

Check wheel bearing
Check driver line carrier
Oils
Check wastegate

Hopefully this doesn’t get buried but since we are going to cal city for new years does anyone know if there’s any places out there that rent sxs? Maybe find out if my wife is going to like it before i go and spend a bunch of money. I mean I’m sure she will but then she would get to try it with the group
