So I like riding dirtbikes and plan to continue to do so until I can’t anymore. That being said my wife isn’t the biggest fan of riding around after us, so I’m starting to look at sxs’s. Nothing new and nothing over the top. I would like to keep it under 20k, under 15k would be even better. It’s needs to be a 4 seater and preferably a bench in the back making it a 5 seat. Like I said doesn’t need to be new or over the top but I do want to be able to keep up in group rides. I’m assuming I can find like a 2016 or something that can fit the bill? There’s all kinds of different models though so what should I start looking for? Models and years. What do I want to avoid? I know there’s a ton of threads on here and I have read some but I need a more direct answer. Thanks

FB marketplace.
A RZR1000 (non-turbo) should work.

have it inspected. I purchased a used 900 and while I got a deal, it had issues I did not see when I purchased. Have to get the engine rebuilt this off-season.

You can grab a Kawasaki Teryx 4 new or used for under 15k. I have mine it has been pretty solid. It’s loud, tops out at 50 mph, suspension does the job though, and they have a reputation of being pretty reliable. Maintenance is easy. Me and the kids like it.

You can get a turbo for less than 20 tight now,

Both the turbo and NA rzr need tranny bearings. Plan 1000$ for that.

Na with 4-5 people will struggle above 55-60 mph. So if your group is faster that that you need a turbo.

Look for a stock one with no mods

Both will need springs too.

THE most important question is...

What are you planning to do with it?

Hauling azz open desert?

Exploring tight trails?

Sand dunes, Glamis and such?

Sounds like this will be for your wife?

No way Any SxS is gonna keep up with a dirt bike.

Food for thought. 💭

Hey Vic I would up your budget to around 25k if you can. That 5k is gonna get you so much more. I’d look into the can am x3 Max that’s 72” wide. You’ll want that longer wheelbase especially out here up in high desert etc. come by if you wanna check ours out etc. you’ll most likely have to add the bench in the back.

This is what I was thinking as well. It's also not just where it will be used, but also how comfortable the driver would be doing so. If Mrs. Vic is an aggressive driver, or timid with offroad. That, and steering wheel dirt is different than handle bar dirt. My wife was hell on her banshee, but super timid driving a SxS. A SxS that can cruise 65 with the kids may not be needed if the one driving it doesn't take it there.

If you were saying that about a speed you’d be shouting it from the rooftops about what a pos it is.. lol.

@BHC Vic
How old are the kids?
What Joe says is true, and Xp1000 isn’t going to hang with experienced riders on bikes. Unless they are fairly young and on little bikes.

Sounds like this car is more for the wife than for group rides with other cars.

Thing to remember also is once kids have the freedom to choose ride in the car or ride bikes? 19 out of 20 times they want to ride.

Real men drive Jeeps.

A Jeep will most likely hold resale way better than a clapped out XP1000, and street legal anywhere.
And has A/C and heat😉

Edit....but the Jeep won’t hang on group rides with other SxS

All SXS have their issues

Everyone has different priorities...

Do you wanna be first at the Baja 1000, on race day?

Or be first inline at the service department, on Saturday?

Decisions, decisions...

🤔😁

Kids are 10 8 and 6. Two Honda 50’s and a pw50. There’s a Ktm 65 coming for Christmas. It’s mostly for the wife as my friends still ride but I wouldn’t say I’ll never drive it

Good point Zach. Maybe you and Vic need to come on up to Havasu between Christmas and the 11th of January and go for a ride. I alwaus have 2-3 seats available and would be willing to go for a ride. @Bpracing1127 just took me on a 160+ mile ride that was a blast. @BHC Vic could sort out his likes and wants in a day like that. It would be blast!!!!! Let’s do it!!!! Have space if housing is needed.

If his cars are like his boat it is a deal. Still loving the boat that you owned at one point. 👍
Thanks! Glad you are enjoying it. She’s a beauty! I also regret selling the Conquest for a Wakeboat! That shit is next to be replaced already!
I don’t have nor sell clapped out shit. Someone is gonna get some nice used SXS’s.

We love it an don’t plan to ever sell. Comments are made about it every where we go. Feel blessed to be the ones caring for it at this time and hope it is in the family for our son to enjoy one day with a family. Have had many express if we ever want to sell they are interested. Hope to keep even if we ever move up to a bigger boat. Never want to have buys remorse. Which by the way if you ever want to enjoy it just reach out would be a honor to host you on it one day. 👍

My neighbor up in Flagstaff just sold his 2010 4 seat Kawasaki for $6k. It was only used on the fire roads. I already have a SxS, so I passed.

I think 10-15k should get you something really nice. 😉

That’s great! I always look for it when I’m out on the water. Also, Boat405 has my old Daytona! That one is greatly missed as well 🥹 and he has done a beautiful job with it.

Brand new YZX's are the most dirt bike like operating experience by far in a SxS and can be had for way under $25K. But for a family I'd go KRX4 and need nothing other than a shock spring upgrade.

Really has me thinking 😂
We started our search last spring for a SxS. (It’s been a tough year because I spent the last 10+ years talking shit on SxS’s and wake boats, and now I have both).

Original plan was to get a 2 seat 900 just so the wife could fallow us while dirtbike riding. That turned into maybe a 4 seat for night rides with the camping group. That turned into @Mrs. Riley1 isnt the most proficient off road driver, so if she is fallowing other rzrs (on our big group rides dirtbikes are usually on a different path with the same destination) she needed a car the can handle what the others are going through, so she picked a Pro R. 🤣

My neighbor’s brother is a finance manager at carters in Las Vegas. You can probably get a decent deal right now on an XP 4 1000 like this.

Unless you plan on keeping them at the river pad, how do you haul (2) SxS and all the dirt bikes?

Consider the whole hauling thing as well if you decide to spend a little more than the original budget on a nicer and probably wider car.
Trailer? A bigger one! 😂

Mama can follow you in the Jeep, and carry the noise makers so you can concentrate on driving 😉😇

That actually sounds like a hell of an idea honestly. But yea if we got both one would stay in bhc. In all honesty I should get more seat time before taking this trip to cal city with the trailer but we are going to caravan and I feel safe. It’s not as easy to drive as I thought though. It’s wide and people are assholes.

I’m pretty good at backing things. Yesterday I got it into my backyard by myself but I know the neighbor had eyes on me too so kind of cheating. It’s long and things get tight quick

Take it slow. I tell my camp party, I might not be first at camp, but who cares about that.
you will quickly learn, right hand turns are a PIA.
With my trailer, I am 66’ tip to tip.
I use a RV navigational app, that avoids right turns.

Which app? I should probably do the same and yes right turns have given me a hard time. In taking g it slow but nobody around me wants to 😂
