Resurrecting this from the dead - I just ordered the Starlink Mini

It looks like they changed their pricing structure recently: $50 for 50GB data (+$1 per GB after) and $165 for unlimited for the Roam plans. Still $600 for the dish. Works up to 100mph on the road

Since its just for travel the $50 plan seems like it would be plenty. Seems like a no brainer at that price - just wish the dish itself was cheaper.

Has anyone played around with car mounts? In theory this can mount to my trucks moon roof with the shade closed (just the power cable running out). Curious on signal. https://www.amazon.com/Vehicle-Suction-Starlink-Antenna-Sunroof/dp/B0DH31DXLX/

A lot of guys were just doing a small bucket, or similar, filled with concrete with a piece of PVC in the middle to slide the pole mount into and then sitting it in the back of the truck bed against the cab. It still grabs signal.

Interesting. I have a bit of an "overlanding"/camping setup going on so I will either need to mount it above the tent or to the truck itself. I also like how hidden the suction cup setup is. Unfortunately hidden and good signal probably don't go together well

Am I correct that it is $299 for equipment and $120 per month? I am currently paying $108 per month at river for Optimum, outages have been minimal now that they seem to have things worked out.

Starlink sounds awesome but $120 per month seems pricey.

Definitely would have this if I had a moho!
I pay 125 per month for COX and I’m limited to 1280 gb per month. I come close every month. And I’m tired of monitoring my usage.
120 for unlimited sounds good to me. I’ll probably switch when I get back from vacation.

Is the reliability and speed as good as advertised?

Better IMO, and continues to get better the more satellites Elon sends up.

We used ours all over Mexico last week and streamed video from the race car with zero issues.

Phone calls, FaceTime, streaming tv shows were all flawless.

Make sure to read the "fine print", "unlimited" isn't always what you think it is. Just a warning I see it all the time in some of the cell phone chats.

Starlink seems to complicate it quite a bit but they basically have tiers, if you are in a congested area you will be deprioritized and slower speeds.

I saw that in a Reddit post, but it was over 2 years old.
Does anyone still get throttled or cut-off for gb usage?

I edited my post above, just make sure you know what you are getting into.

I posted this in another post before.

The alternative internet services (cellular, satellite, etc.) aren't designed to be used as your main source of internet (yet anyway, in my opinion. Not affordable anyway)

They are great for places that don't have "high speed wired" service. But you have to "pay to play"...

Been on Starlink for about 3 years. Never had any issue with speeds.

Tomorrow my Starlink Roam (for service truck) and my Starlink Mini to have to use while off-roading, are supposed to arrive according to the tracking.

I’ll report on use asap.

How does it work having multiple dishes? Do you pay 120 per? That's always been my question. If I could have one at home and one on the go. It's worth it.

I have a Gen 3 with a paused Roam plan. One of my kids took it camping this weekend and fired up the 50GB plan for $50.00. It worked great for them. They even plugged it in to the bed of his truck and drove home with it on and it worked well.

The thing is just amazing.

I bought the Mini from West Marine a few weeks ago, it arrived in a few days then I bought a mounting block on Amazon that fit where a pole mount would attach with a 1/4-20 threaded hole in the bottom.

I then used RAM mounts and attached to the top of the ladder on the MOHO.

Camped in the mountains near Idyllwild, signed in to the roam 50g and watched college football Friday and all-day Saturday into late evening, there were 10 other people signed in and (2) ROKU's.

By the time I shut everything down the usage was @47g, the app asked to continue by opting in for additional gigabits @$1 per Gig

My speed was 195-225mpbs the entire time, I could have shut the thing down at night to save some data, but you know how that goes after several cocktails

I also paused the account until I go camping in a few weeks, it should be straight forward reactivating the account, the app is super easy to use, I'd defiantly recommend it.

I'm bumping this thread; what's the latest and greatest on Starlink?

I am considering signing up and getting something for my Motorhome so my wife and I can work remotely over long weekends, and the kids can stream shows when we have spotty cell service.

They have a 50gig Roam plan for $50/ month that can be paused. We would only use this occasionally, so I think 50 gigs is more than enough. Does anyone have any input?

What about equipment- not to sound like a cheap ass, but this is only going to be used occasionally so I don't need to be top-of-the-line, latest and greatest. I remember seeing Costco have a special not too long ago. Does that still exist, or is it better to shop around or direct through Starlink?

I just go a mini with the roam plan to run survey equipment in the field. Not sure on the data usage just, but it is super fast. I may take it to glamis to try it out next weekend and I will report back.

Direct through Starlink is my choice.

If you go over the data you can buy more very easy.

Doing business with Starlink is easy peasy.

My first trip out with the mini was to Glamis this last weekend and it was awesome. Cell reception is bad on gecko so I had it running to make calls, stream music, surf the net, etc. It was amazing

I have the Savage UTV mount suction cupped to my F350 moonroof and had youtube streaming my entire drive with no interruptions

I have the starlink mini connected to my Ecoflow battery box and solar panels connected to that to keep it charged during the day. It was able to run it the entire time

50 gigs probably won't be enough if you have kids streaming tv shows and shit on top of normal usage.

Streaming movies is typically 1-2 gigs per hour of viewing.

The starlink mini kicks ass, it's basically the size of an ipad but a little thicker. weighs nothing, and is easy to store. Will easily run off Milwuakee m18 tool batteries or a good usb battery pack.

If you are only going to be using it a couple weekends a month 50 gigs might work, but you are gonna have to keep an eye on the kids' usage.

Here is my mobile kit, weighs probably 6-8lbs. It has everything to run the starlink mini from either Cigarette Lighter, USB, Wall Power, or the Included Battery/Solar (about 3 hrs run time with no sun, or continuous in sunlight)

I've had some really good successes with my Starlink mini. Been on 3 camp trips and its been great the whole time, zero issues so far.

one thing i've noticed, there is a warm up time for the unit. It takes a while to get to full speed.

I did pick up a new travel router to try to see if i can get a little better range out of the unit.

Can you Pm me that shopping list for the accessories to the mini that you have?

We are looking gathetting starlink as a backup to our WAN circuits and that would suffice on a portable and complete setup.
