Agree

If you want " ash tray " coffee just go to McDonalds cheaper and you get refills.

Prefer to make my own
My wife stops at Philz Coffee every now and then. They make it as you order it.

Bad hire IMO.
under his watch both TB and Chipotle had issues.

Plus IMO, that sets a horrible tone at the top. Requires staff to work onsite, but he gets to be remote.

Had issues, like what? Both have done very well...

Tone at the top may be a problem, but I think he led them through a couple of health food scares pretty well. It sounds like he has a better chance of steering the ship than the previous CEO.

Both experienced food quality issues under his watch. But he is known for innovation and growth at both.
Chipotle hired him right after they had food issues and he was key in negotiating the $25M fine to the FDA.

It says he has to be in Seattle (cooperate office) 3 days a week, I would like to know what CEO is in the office that much and lives within driving distance...

Truthfully I can careless, I don't drink that shit..

30 million dollar potential annual salary.

Just try to wrap your head around that.

No wondering here.
In addition -- they (Starbucks) paid for his unvested share options at Chipotle to get him to joint them.
I understand this cost them another $50M+

I thought it was high because they spend too much on cool toys from the TOY FACTORY!! These 2 toys cost them 300k and they did nothing with them to replace money spent ??

Very very common.

My 17 years at Intel at the headquarters RNB
Building there were 2 of the CEO’s at different times commuted via private jet 5 days a week.
I’d see him arrive at 6am by limo, and get picked up by limo at 6pm. We’d chat in the hallways all the time.

By Thursday he looked like he’d been kicked by an entire classroom of 4th graders all day long.

3 shot venti caramel mocha for me!
Although lately I’ve been leaning towards Dutch brothers if I see one.

Those who drink only gas station coffee may not be in the best position to pass judgment on coffee quality?
Regardless of politics or the nuances of the CEO’s salary structure.
It always cracks me up when these Starbucks bashing threads pop up. News flash, hating the business is one thing, and understandable. But they don’t amass these billions of dollars by selling a universally shitty product.

I drink as much Circle K coffee as anyone on here I’d bet, considering my 1500 mile work commute.
But that doesn’t mean I dismiss the other options.
A 16 or 20 oz espresso coffee from my normal stops runs $5.50-$7.00 typically, and is a nice treat during that drive.
I’ve never paid $10 for any brewed coffee product from Starbucks or any other coffee shop, although it may be possible.
Starbucks drink prices are right in line with any other espresso coffee shop, more or less.
Pound for pound their whole beans are the best bargain out there for those who grind their own. Black rifle sucks balls for instance, but Dunkin’ Donuts dark roasts are a decent option.
2 things I will not drink (unless there is absolutely no other option) is coffee from a Bunn machine and coffee from a Keurig.
You want shitty coffee? That’s shitty coffee.

Wouldn’t it just easier to lease him an office in Newport? Trying to think of what he would handle week to week that’s not accomplished via phone or email?

If he needs to be in Seattle then by all means fly him out.

That flight is costing 20k a day easy.

Shit, I read everyone else needed to be in office. So much for reading before my home brew coffee cup is finished

One of the largest and most profitable Starbucks is located inside the huge Boeing Everett Washington factory building.

I'd guess Dutch Bros if you are correct about the building. Seems they have been exploding in growth.
.
I'm just happy as a lark I don't drink coffee.😊

It’s called marketing, Tommy.
When there’s pics all over of Paris Hilton and Kim K etc always with a Starbucks in hand all the sheep want to emulate them.Been that way for over a decade.

As many times as I’ve had their coffee I always shake my head.
Just don’t get it.
Always tastes burned.

I’d rather make and drink my own at home then just go about my day with water after the morning caffeine buzz.

I’d agree about the black rifle, not that great.

Paris Hilton has never influenced me to do anything, and the only response I’ve ever had to a pic of a Kardashian is the dry heaves. 🤮

I’ve never had a plain coffee from Starbucks and don’t understand why anyone would go there for a plain coffee?
One of my bosses has a daughter that’s some sort of master brewer at Starbucks. I have their entire recipe book on PDF…it’s not guesswork, and there’s a lot more to the product than just marketing. They pioneered the foo foo coffee market, and no amount of marketing can overcome an inferior product. No matter what one thinks of the company.

But yeah, I too make my own. (With Starbucks Sumatra beans)
One cup of my morning home brew and you’ll feel your hair growing. 😎

Lately I've been hand-dripping a 3.5 shot Blonde espresso the daughter receives for free (yes, she works there). Pretty damned good, and I don't like coffee. It doesn't take long at all to do - no more time than waiting for 2 K-cups. If I go to Starbucks, it's a 4 shot Flat White, either hot, or iced.

Something is up with this story. You don't flaunt PJ travel in this green age.

Maybe I'm just too simple of a guy, but I couldn't ever tell the taste difference in coffee. Black is black and sugary is sugary, I guess I just don't have that developed of a palette

Circle K is pretty decent since they have those grind the coffee beans per the cup, and fresh brewed.
Maverick has em too.

I'm still partial to Farmer Bros coffee brewed in a Bunn coffee machine. Jeff's has it. That's not the name of the place, but the owner.

Starbucks here is in Safeway. Super long lines, being a tourist town, I'll pass.

There's 3 other locally owned coffee shops in town. They might just know me by name. One has a pretty good breakfast burrito too.

Nice!
I think I’ll try this one next.
Can’t imagine I’ll ever work my way through the entire stack of recipe cards! 😂🤷🏼‍♂️

The statement is a bit rediculous. lol. Goes without saying. The fact is Starbucks recruited the guy, not the other way around. You're going to pay / be flexible when taking a CEO that is still performing well at their current company.

I can't imagine a CEO of a large Fortune 500 company is in the office much anyway. I'd want to be visable in the office when possible and getting my hands dirty with the average worker at frequent intervals. CEO's are busy people though. Many CEO's I think would rather just operate in a bubble with other top brass. I freely admit I have no idea what type of CEO Niccol is.

Yeah, so not sure what the issues were. As you just said. He was considered to be valuable at both chains, which is why Starbucks just paid him. lol

Right on.

For about 6 months the wife was a district manager for Alb/Vons Starbucks...I should crack these books open!

The in-store Starbucks employees work for the markets and are union UFCW employees. They make way less than Starbucks company employees, and it's a harder gig.

In the offer letter, Starbucks also notes that it will set up a remote office for Niccol in Newport Beach along with an assistant of his choosing

Disagree with the best bargain; Kirkland is a better deal, and they're often Starbucks beans. And those Costco grinders are the bomb.😁
