I’m looking at re-doing my boat rub rail. It sounds like all of the freight companies have started adding on major surcharges to long length shipments in the last few months.

For example, Integrity Marine, which I used in 2019, is now having to pass along a $1000 surcharge in addition to normal freight charges on 20’ sticks of rub rail. A $300 shipment is now $1300. You can drop down to a 16’ and the surcharge is $300….but now you’re talking a few more joints on your install.

Taco Marine is charging $300 on for a 20’ stick but their prices are more expensive on the stainless itself vs. Integrity. Taco will also cut a 20’ down to 7’ & 7’ & 6’ and you can get free shipping over $100, but now you have a shit ton of joints. It’s lose lose no matter what.

Just wondering if any other members here are needing or thinking about buying some rub rail soon? If so, we could do a group buy and split shipping charges. I’m in SoCal. I’ve also got a call into WOT Marine to see if they have any.

Specifically I’m looking for 3/4” hollow stainless. @Marios Metalworks got any extra laying around lol?

Post up if you’re interested.

Where’s the rub rail coming from? Renting a flatbed trailer and getting it yourself might be worth it.

Massachusetts/Georgia (Integrity) or Florida (Taco). Believe me I would if I could. I should buy a pile of this stuff and resell it. This shit is as valuable as a 2x4

Rex may have some too and I’ve got a call into him.

Anything over 160" gets pricey if the shipper will take it at all. Ask them to quote it on XPO only as the delivery company. It's who I have to use for solar rail in a lot of rural areas fo this reason.

Cost to have someone like Outlaw's guys pick it up and put on their flat bed trailer with other cargo and bring it West on the next trip?

Might try some boat builders. Last couple times I have needed rub rail Advantage boats had lots in stock. they were easy to deal with, and other shops in Havasu did not have much in stock.

A little insight on shipping. Prices have gone crazy because the truck carriers don't want to deal with over length hand load stuff, they are too busy. So they now add huge surcharges. The longest I normally ship is 148" which covers all the 12 foot aluminum and stainless stuff. R&L Carriers has been consistently the cheapest at that length but still $500+ per tube. All the plastic I handle can be rolled and shipped in a big flat box via ups ground so I don't know who's got the best rate in the 20 foot length range. Anyone in So Cal is welcome to pickup in rancho cucamonga. I have people drive from out of state and nor cal to save the $500 shipping cost. We just have to pre-arrange a time which is easily done. I do not operate a walk-in store facility where people can just show up any longer.

I can cut stuff to 94" (or less) and ship in a tube via ups ground also. Some guys do that if they don't mind having more seams. There's no perfect solution to the shipping cost problem.

BT1 (1") and BT1672 (5/8") are in stock in quantity in clear, gold, red, blue, and black anodized. Hollow back stainless is in stock in 3/4", 1", and 1 1/4" in 12 footers. I'll be getting some 16 footers in ss soon.
