On another note decades later after release to public had another razor catch on fire right next to us at Glamis last weekend.
I’m not saying this to start shit I really don’t care all I’m saying is shit happens. Luckily my friend grab the two little kids out of the back seats as soon as he saw it on fire and we got the lady out who was driving. Grabbed 2 fire extinguishers and it was out pretty quick.

On the transmission front they are just making the cases thicker.. I just went by the speed building and talked to Robbie.

On a side note he took me for a ride in one and made it a point to make sure I saw the full capabilities of the car..

There was at least four instances my can am woulda been on its roof.. 3 instances it would have either ripped part or all of the front end off the car.. and several where it woulda ripped wheels off..

This thing is literally a mini trophy truck.. you know when you’re watching those videos of the truck flying through the air sideways and you’re thinking there’s no way they are gonna land it? We did that shit too. 😳. (Literally).

So my take aways on it..

1. Robbie can flat fucking drive.
2. Sell your sxs and get in line because it is a straight up desert race car.. this isn’t a sxs it is and was absolutely worth the wait. It is next level.

I actually got out of it giggling.. it’s not even fair.

Should have talked about how stable this thing is.. we were running it (at speed) on off camber terrain .. never got a tippy feeling. And when I say off camber, I wouldn’t have even parked my can am on this stuff..

It turns so hard and never gets weird.. The harder you turn, the more the car takes a set…. Absolutely unreal.

If he took everyone on that ride there wouldn’t be any haters.. I honestly think it’s almost too fast and too capable for the general Public.

Have you driven a Pro R or gone for a ride with someone who can drive in one?

I have one at my shop right now. I will freely admit I haven’t driven one yet. I haven’t driven and been in Just about everything under the sun except that though.

The cases are sitting on the floor in the speed building. He walked me right over to them and showed me where and why they failed and what the resolution was and how they came to
Determine it etc..

He isn’t hiding anything. Cases are already retooled and in production.

RD
More good info thank you very much. Did he tell you that you would be in the may delivery group. Some reason I thought you were in the first 500.

Let us know if you go in a Pro R. Really trying to compare the RG car to an X3 is not even close. The Pro R is the closest thing out there and I would like to hear your opinion after going for a similar ride/drive in both.

I’ll do that! The off camber and sheer stability of this car is unreal, especially cornering..

I can’t wait to compare them side by side. I think the live valve really gives the PRO R a chance in a straight line but the turning on the Speed is so stable and turns you think your going to blow through carrying too much speed it is so stable and planted. The edge is very predictable. I really should have brought my GoPro on our ride. I’m curious how the power compares also.

I only asked the question to figure out who fronts the costs and what happens to the thousands of transmissions that are deemed unreliable?
It would seem the person who designed them would be on the hook or is it a manufacturing defect that they could throw on an insurance policy?
If Speed we’re responsible that would be a big hit .
No negativity here, just trying to figure out how a business would resolve this without coming out of pocket.

The capability of RG to design something good is very realistic. I think all the other aspects of this are out of his control. I hope his dreams aren’t shattered by sub par manufacturing.

Haters gonna Hate and after things settle down with the roll out and these cars are in dealerships ready to take home, the Haters will really Hate eating their own words. RG and backers are in too deep to take the money and run. That only happens in the boat business. lol BTW, Elon has/is going through the same thing with everyone of his companies.

This is an Outstanding question.

Ever been in a Stoker with Al Stoker driving? No one else can drive it like he does.

Mr Gordon's reputation as a Driver is legendary. Him driving his own car? Yeah that's gonna be a E ticket ride for Sure! 💯💯💯

My BIL can drive. He's been off roading since the day he was born. When he took me for a ride in his new CanAm, I was Completely blown away.

There is no Way on god's green earth, any of us mere mortals can pilot a car or a boat to the same capacity as professional driver can.

I'm looking forward to some independent reviews. Different cars, same driver.

Fuckin Dave. I hope you didn't China Buffet Gordon's car!

No big deal just try to give my input from what I’ve learned in the last week or two an actually being up there. I planning on getting an extended warranty as long as it is reasonable. Again I won’t see mine till I hope next desert season I’m waiting on the line in a Diablo.

Thanks @RiverDave

great pics and updated / current info

A ride w/ RG that’s got to be a highlight ! He sure can drive a car.

How about an interview w/ RG - you used to do those garage interviews / pod casts

Subject can be -

Talk about the Design & Development - Highlights & Struggles - What was it like behind the scenes?
How big of a roll did Hisun play if at all?
What dId RG take away from this project?

The car is a HUGE accomplishment ! It’s not like he has a huge design / development team ( engineers ) on payroll like the big manufacturers, This was a grass roots - Hold my beer deal….

IMHO. His PR team should have done this already. I think it would help the brand so much and people want to hear from him. Maybe calm down the haters, which still amazes me!

I can ask him if he will sit down and do that.. Guy is extremely busy, so I'm not sure if he'd have time or not?

Driving skills are definitely a big part of it, but ultimately nobody can make a car do something it isn't gonna do.. The off camber driving, it's either going to tip over or it isn't.. Cornering some can do better than others, but the car takes a set and never gave me that "uneasy" feeling.. The harder he pushed it, the more it just squatted and dug in.

While I was impressed with the driving, the capabilities is what really impressed me.. Landing that thing damn near sideways and it sucking it up was nuts..

It would be great after a couple hundred cars get delivered. He has another batch of cars coming in, back to court with the Textron, and mint 400 all in the next two weeks.

Agreed..

The car isn't nearly as "refined" as a Polaris or a can am.. It's noisy, drive train is noisy.. Shifting on the fly takes skill and is by no means idiot proof.. But if you want to flat haul ass in the dirt, I'm not sure there's anything out there that is going to run with it. I wasn't joking when I said we were doing things in that car that were mind blowing, and it wasn't the driver... It was the car.

Robby says "Hey see that rock?" what would typically be referred to as a "baby head" and he goes and runs it over doing 40 mph.. Giant patch of rocks next to the trail and he just an over those too.. LOL. Big ravine next to the trail, went through that no problem.. Then he started getting on the gas and when he launched that thing off the side of the hill and it's flying sideways I was actually thinking "I'm gonna be the guy in the car when he finally wadded one" because I didn't think there was anyway in hell when it landed it was gonna pull that off. After we landed he said "People think I drive crazy for doing shit like that, but I build the cars to be able to do shit like that so it's honestly that big of a deal."

I have been off-roading my whole life, owned bad ass shit, I'm not scared of driving the shit out of something. It's not uncommon to make mistakes when you are hauling ass and get off the trail and have to go through patches of real rough rocks etc before you jump back on the trail. You are just kinda hoping you don't hit anything to big and blow a tire or worse.. He was intentionally running through some of those style patches, or jumping in and out of things that you would never (ever ever) want to be in normally, and the car just ran through everything... It was really eye opening. While he was doing it he was laughing and saying "It's just wrong.."

I was thinking "It's not even fair."

Since everyone loves negativity so much.. If I had to guess what's going to be the biggest hurdle of this program is going to be is that transmission. I just don't see how releasing that to the general public is a good idea. It isn't like you can put it in first gear slam the throttle and then slam it into second and then third.. The whole process needs to be choreographed on the up and the downshifting while you are underway. For most desert riding I'd throw the thing in second and leave it.

Well I do have a full time film guy in house soooo.. That said with go pro stabilization etc.. even back on the old ones they really tend to minimize what actually occurred.

Honestly what I'd rather do is get some hater on here, strap him in the seat of that thing and send him on the ride I went on, and have the go pro pointed at his face. :D

We were out on shea road about a year ago and RG , Daniel and a couple of others came by to barrow a spare tire and some gas from us . I went for a ride with RG in the Pre Production car down some washes ( at 11PM ) and thought ride and how it handled was impressive , I'm sure RG's driving had something to do with it !!!

What are your thoughts on RG keeping the company private with Todd and their investors, going public or just selling out in a few years for a zillion dollars?
