I talked to Todd back in the summer of 22 at that time they were already working towards putting a V8 in at least one car. I’m not saying that they have even taken the first physical step in design. But definitely we’re going to do it he mentioned for King of the hammers more so than he mentioned to compete with any other specific utv out there. As we all know now 12 months later they’re still trying to work out these first 4k or so Direct to consumer cars.

Robby has already announced it. They are going to make a small run of 250 units. The question is will we ever see it. He also announced a full cab with A/C and I haven't heard a peep about that in years.

I am surprised he did not go with a 3 cylinder motor. Makes great hp with a turbo and more room to grow hp every few years. The Can Am and Yamaha motors are super reliable and can produce a lot of hp.

He is never slamming a V8 in a Speed UTV and selling them. They would have to start developing a 4 cylinder motor now and then maybe in 3-5 years could introduce a new model.

The platform he is on is good for about 500 hp.. why does he need more cylinders?

It wasn’t years ago he announced the AC model. I think it was like 10-12 months ago? And they are taking deposits

I’ve been in one.. there is nothing suspension wise out there that can do what this car can do.. it’s insane

If you're talking bone stock SxS's, then you would be correct.

Nothing else out there, is JUST a BIT of a stretch. 😜

He announced the AC model when he announced the car at SSSS in 2019...

Edit: I'll change that. I'm almost positive he announced it or there was at least rumors of it at SSSS 2019. Quick search and the earliest there was official talk about it(UTV Underground) was June 2020.

10-12 months ago was probably the last time he has mentioned it at all. And no mention of release dates for it. But he announced it very early on.

Suspension looks great, but so does the suspension on a Wildcat XX with the Speed kit on it. LOL!

This is what I heard in my head when I read it. I have had professional drivers drive my own car with me in it and blow my mind. Some people are just a level above all of us. And Robby is different than even other racers as he has MAJOR off-road wins and road course wins.

Ya fun to watch!
couple of kinks to work out on the Speed car but pretty frickin good out the box.
biggest thing I think will be some brakes upgrades or different brake pad material, or even master cylinder. Something the aftermarket will have to play with.
Still think the Speed car is the best bang for your buck, especially the upgrades you have to do to the other two cars to even come them close to the speed car on cages, seats, belts, suspension components, etc. that list goes on. lets also remember the early speed guys got cars at 32k and 37K, I have to say definetly was worth the wait for the price!
The Pro R is definitely a good car but the can am has catching up to do, but seems like we will see a new one this year?
love the competition in the industry, its good for the end user!

With a big turbo and E85. The guys building up the Yamaha and Can Am motors are beyond 500hp.

But the speed chassis is more capable for real off-roading.. or are you referring to dune use and drags only?

I think our resident brake expert pat should develop a better kit that doesn’t cost 4-5k

I’m talking about the car itself.. not the driving, albeit there was a few things he did I probably wouldn’t have done.

Agreed, I don't think its going to be that big of a change. Rotors look pretty good, may just be pads? IDK we will see.

It wasn’t that long ago when he announced the AC model and was taking deposits. I know because it wasn’t that long ago I had six of them on order and I wanted one and Stscy said no.. I kinda forgot about it then the price increases happened and now I’m debating on whether I want to spend that much money on an off-road car with AC..

I currently have three in order. 2 el jefe rg’s.. sell one or the other and keep one. The third is a stretched two seater that Preston and I have for the kids to go racing.

Well I guess if the pro r truly won.. then Nick from chupacabra will sell his speed make a bundle of cash buy a pro r and pocket the rest…

But somehow I doubt it.

RD
Speed car is giving him great content. The way to get views and subscribers is always the new flashy/hot thing.

Time will tell but a smart man would sell the speed and buy the can am next when the new platform launches.

The big hp stuff is what some of the dune/drag guys are doing. You don't need that kind of hp for the desert. Just like most Speed owners will never use the 300hp speed key in the desert. They might use it in the dunes, but who knows if the belt can handle it in the dunes.

I think the Pro R chassis is very capable for real off-roading. I have not heard of any Pro Rs with frame issues. With a few gusset kits in the front the Can Am is too (and no you do not need to spend $5,000 to do it.) It may not last as long as the others, but most do not put a ton of miles on them.

I had 8,000 miles on my 2018 X3 that had lots of desert miles on it including trips to Baja. That X3 had a tune that bumped from from 172hp to 200hp. I had a cheap $199 HMF gusset kit on the front and welded on a brace on the stock lower arms. The frame finally cracked and broke in the rear down tubes on a trip from Barstow to State Line.

Current X3 has over 3,000 miles on it, but I went overboard because I wanted to do a full build. I expect the frame to last a lot longer mileage wise. Current X3 has lots of desert miles and a trip to baja along with the dunes.

The Pro R will do everything it will do out of the box. Check the review lol

Have you been in a Pro R with Robby driving it? Because if not its silly to compare your ride in the Speed with RG driving to anything less.

I don't think Nick will sell it, he seems to be very impressed with the car, and he has said, the suspension is next level compared to even his race cars. but, he did himself score it lower than the ProR.

Agree 150% fish….When you don’t drive a SXS on a regular basis and Robby gives you a ride of course your going to think it’s the baddest thing ever…..i will put down money that if say RJ gave you a ride in a pro R you would get out and say holy shit that’s the baddest SXS ever !!! This thread gets so comical on days, fish has a good feel of his pro R I’m sure by now to give you a good ride Dave….

How else would you verify what car is the fastest and leave the suspension and drivers balls out of the equation?

Standard practice

Oh I dunno...

How about a hill shoot?

Maybe race up Choke Cherry?

Maybe race up Cinders?

Maybe race up a few of the hills in Jaw Bone or Dove Springs?

Real off roading. Yano?

Asphalt ain't standard practice for a strictly off highway vehicle. For most people I would think.

I turned the vid off at that point. Maybe they did some real world testing after?

Pro R is a sand car with 2L engine. It is not a UTV. A better test would’ve been Pro R Turbo 4 seater or Speed UTV with speed key vs Pro R. Ok let’s say you come out of your house. All these 3 cars are parked there. You have 2-3 small children you are taking out into desert riding. You can choose any car? Which one you getting as these are all stock cars, no racing seats, 5 point harness, safety cage, window nets, etc.. which car you choosing as there’s only 1 good choice so speed UTV wins easily.

That sounds cool I know I don’t know very many of you guys first hand, maybe only one or two to be honest but if any of you guys are going to be racing in the AZ NV south ca region I would like to try to come help people with speed cars that just need help during races. I don’t plan on racing my Diablo but I would like to get back into watching and attending. I raced district 38 for a long time when I was on motorcycles, keep it in mind I’m not looking to charge I just wanna go out and set a remote pit and help when people need help pour some gas.

We’re arguing about what’s better. A Ford Raptor or Dodge TRX.

What Robby has built has evolved directly out of an accomplished off road racer vision.

The Pro R is a beast as well. Buy what you’re comfortable with.

I can tell you that after racing against the Speed car it’s more than capable just as the the Pro R is. The biggest commonality between the two is the name UTV. That suspension on the Speed car is a game changer for the industry IMO.

Here is the thing, being this is Supposed to be a boating forum...

I'm pretty sure that if you get in Any boat with Tres Martin, he's gonna make that boat do what no one else can.

You get in a Stoker with Alan Stoker, and it's gonna do what you didn't think it could do.

Gordon is at that level. He can obviously drive like none of us mere mortals can.

What the Speed car HAS done is raise the bar for all the other manufacturers out there.

Now, are they gonna sit on there hands and let the Speed car rise to the top?

Yeah, probably not. Competition is a great thing. 👍🏼

Sell sell sell.....
I dunno, 4 of 4 picked Pro R over a 'game changer'. It was a game changer 2 years ago.

Im shocked 4 of 4. I have been told for years speed will blow the rest out of the water. Apparently not.

Side note, I sat in a troy lee Pro R 4 yesterday. Damn it's huge. I was trying to leave a deposit on one 2 months ago. Nobody put out the effort to take my money so F it. New can am coming soon

Robby goes over the shootout and explains why it lost to the pro-R and what upgrades are needed to beat them in the shootout. Starts at 27 minutes into the video.

I’ve been around the desert my whole life.. meaning off-roading my whole life. Have had the latest and greatest to even setting trends with some overland type stuff in the utv market.

The ride I went on with Robby wasn’t some crazy fast paced ride (although we did some of that too) and my comments aren’t derived from the driving but rather what the car is capable of and the sheer toughness of it and how forgiving the car is in awkward positions.

Lol I’ll bet I’ve had more SXS’s than most on this forum, and I build the shit out of all of them if I plan on keeping them. We spend more time in the dirt than we do on the water. (Weird random fact you probably didn’t know about me)

Then why not sell it get a pro r and pocket 10-15+k??

He got that speed for 35k plus accessories and could sell it for 75’ish? Maybe more? The financial motivation is certainly there, but again I don’t think he’d do it and if ya flat asked him which he’d rather have.. I bet I know the answer.

And you probably spend more per hour for that lower time on the water than what you do for the time on dirt. Water fun can be costly but necessary.

The names sound familiar were those guys friends with Britt from IB? Did they race district 38? I mostly did during the Fud era when he was promoting the stuff. Roughly 1991 through early 2000s. Helped mixes his ashes in the concrete out there on the hill is at. Same with Britt he is over by the trestles in the area where we camped.
