Unfortunately the Baja race Talon has about zero in common with what they sell to the public. Too bad. Honda has been neutered for years. Sad because They are capable of some great engineering. They just have zero corporate balls for the off road world. So very very conservative.
Im curious what do you think is so drastically different in the race version? you might be surprised on how close they really are.......

They pulled out of F1, after 5 or 6 years of brutal adversity and development, when they were finally competitive, winning, and at the cusp of a championship. Completely neutered.

You are right. These 2 vehicles are basically identical :)

Honda has been neutered for 20 years now.

Jackass noted.
Sorry. But I don believe a word you just wrote. The cage / frame is NOT stock. The entire front end is much wider, to include a arms, axles ect. That’s just a few parts I can see ! So they have a stock ECU. Wooop-D-Do. It would be MUCH more simple, to simply list the few stock parts on that race talon than to list what is different.

a Stock talon may be reliable. I never said it isn’t. But the suspension and chassis are a generation old already and nowhere near as good as its competitors. If someone isn’t looking to really run hard, and just want to putt around the desert. It’s probably a good fit. But just know, there are much better cars available.

I forgot, are we still talking about the new Kawasaki?
Should be a fun ride even if she will be a bit on the heavy side. Took one for a test loop at Havasu last year and suspension was hands down the best in stock form.

A friend has a nice Talon, it works really good, actually great !! but does better with some weight on the back end.

he added a big fuel tank and gets EXCELLENT Milage ! It just doesn’t have the power when you stand on it.

we just did 500 miles in 4 days in April, after DS weekend

Chase Sexton must be Superman then because he’s up front on a neutered 450. I ride with the guy that heads the Honda Indy Car engine program and they’re having a great season so far. Ultimately, Honda is still near the top of dependability of everything they build.
The Talon stock ran 76mph on GPS, bigger heavier tires slowed acceleration but it still gets there so driving becomes more of a momentum game, very different style of driving. In the desert we are bored riding with any 4 seater car with more than 2 people in it because they drive them to everybody’s comfort level. We go with a highly modified non Turbo’d RZR and dice it up it some spots because there’s only so fast you can go in right twisty rock sections or traversing the bottom of mountains with big washouts. Fire roads and straight high speed trails bore me so the Talon is great for what I like to do with it. Is it the best, doubtful. Nobody says the Yamaha is best but it is the car of choice for short course racing, a trip to Glenn Helen taught me that.

Most of the time an NA car is all you “need”, especially trail riding. I have an NA car and I can run wth about everyone. it’s good until we get to a wash or high speed section and then the higher hp cars pull away.

For the desert stuff a longer wheelbase seems to work better. Somewhere between a 2 seat Can Am and a 4 seat Turbo S wheelbase is the sweet spot to keep it from bucking and add some stability. This is one reason the race Talon is longer.

If I only rode around on a groomed track, yea I’d own a Yam.

The kawi is my favorite machine for what i would use it for. The new 4 seater could use a little more power but checks a ton of boxes.

With that said i still can't wrap my head around a 30k+ sxs. Yes they are bad ass but they plummet in value with over 5k miles and i know it would get alot of street usage here.

SXS always depreciated like crazy with the release of new models up until covid. I think we are heading back to normal times with the economy wavering.

New jeep build makes the most sense for me. They hold there value and will get me in the rocks at sand hollow.

Yup from a personal conversation I had with my contact sitting in thier Torrance compound, the 3 wheeler law suits almost took Honda down. They will be conservative with most of there offerings.

They had near 0 corporate balls in the automotive world for the last 2 decades. They may be coming back around a bit though.

If you can get the Talon at a good price, and you are fully aware of its performance and other capabilities and it doesn't bug you that your friends SXS are faster, then consider price again,,,
