Funny you mention that...I have some first hand knowledge of Manny as a person and he is a good dude. The guys in the clubhouse love him. He is an easy villain when he is on the other team. We're gonna beat up on the Giants first then we'll see you and on Friday... I'm pretty excited about James Outman, seems like good guy, unlike Manny Machado.
Manny was not liked with his litte stint in LA because of walking out ground balls and having little to no hustle. Pretty corn rows, too much gold etc. His style just didn't fit the Dodger culture.Funny you mention that...I have some first hand knowledge of Manny as a person and he is a good dude. The non-hustle issue was brought up when he came to SD.Manny was not liked with his litte stint in LA because of walking out ground balls and having little to no hustle. Pretty corn rows, too much gold etc. His style just didn't fit the Dodger culture.
I have heard the same that he is really good guy that treats poeple with respect etc.
He has 2.5yrs left. Worst case they deal him to a contender and get prospects back. Most teams would take a Tatis/Soto/Machado 1-2-3 lineup any day. They have 2-3 years to win. We'll see...Padres don't have the resources to sign him past his current contract, they will be dumping contracts in a couple of years. Marlins and Diamondbacks are prime examples of finding a short window to win a championship. Is he 12 games above replacement? I do like the Josh Hader pickup.

This is not the old Padre ownership. Peter Seidler is a multi-billionaire that is not afraid to spend. They have had to pay the luxury tax for exceeding the soft cap since he has been the owner. They were # 5 in payroll last time I checked and they just took on more payroll as well as signing Musgrove to a 100 million dollar 5 year contract.Padres don't have the resources to sign him past his current contract, they will be dumping contracts in a couple of years. You must not watch current games. His reputation came from when he was young in Baltimore. I have yet to see him do anything dirty since he has been in SD.If you search on Youtube for dirty baseball players, Manny Machado comes up everywhere, lol... He's a thin skinned, dirty baseball player. He's an easy villain because of his own actions and behavior against other players in the league. A class act he is not..

Flavor of the month. Solid player, but not the best of the best. My feelings aren't hurt that the Doyers didn't pick him up. We're stacked with guys that can do work too. Will be good for the Pads...but keep chasin'I’ll admit i don’t watch a ton of baseball these days. That being said, what am i missing with Soto? He seems like a good dude. Kills the ball in the HR derby. He’s got a 291 career avg with a career best of 34 home runs. Very good player but if he’s worth $450mil, the guys above him are gonna get paid.

When you are the only hitter on a team they will pitch around you. The Padres are betting they put him in a lineup surrounded by great hitters they will have to pitch to him.I’ll admit i don’t watch a ton of baseball these days. ^^^ This. Tatis, Machado, Bell, Soto. How do you pitch around a top of the batting order like that. He is protected in a good lineup. The pitchers will have to pick their poison. When you are the only hitter on a team they will pitch around you. He is the BB leader with over 90 already...of course his OBP is gonna reflect that.

They didn’t spend 1/2 a billion on Soto. He still has I think 2 years on his contract from the Nats.I get it. Watched enough of the Dodger series to understand. Just don’t get how spending 1/2 billion on one player moves the SD needle enough.

SD is still giving up almost a full run more a game than the Doyers.

In some respects I agree with you, but…….how many times have Trey Turner or Mike Trout forced an error by running it out! People pay to see hustle! Getting hurt is part of the sport and they are paid to perform. Just my 2 centsThe non-hustle issue was brought up when he came to SD.
His logic is that if its a close play, he'll leg it out. If its a routine ball to 2b, he's jogging. These are professionals. He has a higher chance of getting hurt than an error from 2b to 1b. I see both sides.
Agreed! If you're being paid tens of millions of dollars to play baseball, like you've always dreamed of since you were 10, the least you can do is leg out any contact to first base. The half assed jog is so disrespectful to the fans and the game.In some respects I agree with you, but…….how many times have Trey Turner or Mike Trout forced an error by running it out! Not saying I would play the same way but they aren’t paying him to leg-out infield singles.Agreed! Yep, and Manny has a current ankle injury he is dealing with from "legging it out" to first base several weeks ago. It was not worth it.Not saying I would play the same way but they aren’t paying him to leg-out infield singles.
The better infielders are .980+ fielding percentage. It’s Risk vs reward.
2.5 years and they also added Josh Bell, also from the Nats, who is a .300 hitter and Brandon Drury from the Reds who has 20 HR's on the season. All three of these players have been mashing and when you add Tatis (hopefully less than two weeks) and Machado to the lineup (as well as Profar and Cronenworth) it's going to be hard for pitchers to pitch around one player. Manny has been getting pitched around all year just like Soto was in Washington. It changes the entire dynamic of the lineup. They didn’t spend 1/2 a billion on Soto. He still has I think 2 years on his contract from the Nats.
All them bats will be needed....cuz beyond Darvish and Musgrove, them boys are gonna need to put points on the board to win.Tonight's lineup: The 2,4 and 6 hitter were not on the team two days ago. Totally different lineup because of the trades. When Tatis comes back it gets even better!
I guess you have not watched any Padre games recently. Clevenger has been dealing and Snell has been pitching good as well. I won't even mention the best closer in baseball that was just added. All them bats will be needed....cuz beyond Darvish and Musgrove, them boys are gonna need to put points on the board to win.
Over the...... Rockies. That's kinda like a special Olympics win. Lol!5-0 Pads bottom of the first with a grand slam and there is only one out (17 pitches). New lineup looking good!
My responses are to the guys saying "what's one guy going to do". It was not one guy. 1st inning Soto walks, Manny hits a double, Bell walks and Drury hits a grand slam. Three of the four of those guys were not on the team until yesterday. It a totally different lineup. Catch the Dodgers? Probably not. Did the padres significantly upgrade their hitting? Absolutely.Over the...... Rockies. That's kinda like a special Olympics win. Lol!
Their run margin reflects a MUCH worse record than what they have. They will have to get up into the 250+ range to have a chance of catching up to the boys in blue.

Kimbrel was so dominant when he was a Pad. He seems to have dropped off the map.The true test will be this weekend series......when you will finally face a strong team, not the Rockies. Doyers up on the season series thus far.....12 more to go for the season. I say the Doyers take 7 or 8. Pads lineup will make a mark for sure, but Doyers got mad depth man. Buehler, Trident, Dustin May still coming back. Shit, even the new rooks are showing up strong with the bats. Oh.......25 of the last 30...wins. Bring that shit to Chavez...it's on. Will make for a more interesting end of the season. Doyers achilles..............Kimbrel
Padres fans sure are quiet this morning@Englewood @PlanB where you at?
They aren't used to fans actually showing up. Lol!Padres are not beating the dodgers this season. But they are building some good stuff.
But......for fucks sake padres how about hiring more people to work petco park!!! The lines are ridiculous. 20 minutes to get beer. Getting through security is so stupid.
40000 fans and its like they prepped for 15000.
Ive passed on free tickets this season, the stadium and pain in the ass shouldn't be the reason
And i agree on manny, his effort at times makes me yell at the tv
Ya…this didn’t age well.@Englewood @PlanB where you at?
The last 6 words you wrote says exactly why I love not watching overpaid prima dona athletes anymore.Padres are not beating the dodgers this season. But they are building some good stuff.
