This all started with a dream. A family friend a few years back taught my then 17yo son how to weld. Our friend was mid 30’s, single and we knew him from church. He’s a good ol’ boy from Southern Idaho. He and my son became friends and we got my son going with a small metal fab company. He works full time and does about $40k in revenue each year in metal fab. Anyways, these two knuckleheads have a dream to build a go kart out of a shopping cart. Well they tried and failed but had purchased a lot of parts and a motor. Christmas a couple years ago we bought him a frame and kit to really finish what he’d started. So we built it up. He and his buddy did the motor mods to the 4 stroke predator engine and it wouldn’t run. This was just a rough assembly as we wanted to strip it down and powder coat it but wanted to do a check build first. Well, naive and somewhat ignorant 18yo son didn’t have the patience to fix the issues. He lost interest and parked it. It’s been in the way in the shop for 2 years. He got married and for good reason didn’t prioritize this toy. Well, this month we stripped it down powder coated it, re assembled with all stainless hardware. Finished yesterday morning and engine was still choking. They changed the jet when they modded the engine. It was getting too much fuel. I helped him change jet back to stock and adjusted some springs and screws to help idle. End of day we were flying around. It’s a lot of fun. Son picked color to match my C10 that my Dad had started and painted blue.
