The new Kick-off rule has as good as removed the kick-off from the game.
Think I'll focus my attention on College ball this season.

No bowl games on New Years day BTW.
Damn,, that seems strange.

I agree. They might as well just place the ball on the 20 yard line and stop the charade

I am trying to give it until the second week.
If they don't get their act together I will treat the NFL like I treat MLB, and only watch the post-season stuff.
College ball is something I am trying to get into

College football has some interesting changes this season, too.
Taking touchdowns away if a player taunts the other team (showing the ball to a defender is taunting) before he reaches the end zone...is ridiculous.

Taunting is stupid anyway, but to take a TD off the boards is gonna cause a ruckus.

Like everything else, the lawyers are behind some of these new NFL rules.

You've got a bunch of retired players with serious health problems, and they're suing the league.
The NFL generates $9 billion in annual revenues, and was built on the backs of these guys, many of whom made very little money, so I can't say I blame them, not one bit.

So every year they pass more player safety rules, to help minimize league exposure to litigation.
And these rules are like taxes - they never go away.
The league doesn't want these guys ramming into each other at full speed; they want touchbacks.

At least make if they blast it through the end zone, bring it out to the 30 or 35. The kicker now might as well just wear shorts and a t-shirt.

I agree - the new rule sucks. They keep focking with the game and it's changed so much for the worse. The officials have so many things they have to think about in real time they have no chance of calling penalties consistently which really sucks.

The new kickoff rule emasculates that play so kickoffs are a waste. But the logic of the rule defies me. If they're kicking off with the POTENTIAL of the other team returning the ball then WTF is that rule for?! All the players have to still run at each other and hit each other even when the ball's not returned so just WTF is that rule for?! (redundant on purpose - it's a stupid focking rule)

We'll see returners catching the ball and taking a knee deep in the end zone and that's when the kicker can't kick it out of the field.

The new kick off rule can only help the Chargers, we were burned more than any other team on kick returns last year, as any good Charger fan would already know:grumble::swear:grumble:

Most of the full-speed head-on contact occurs after the ball is caught and the runback starts. Until then, you usually have guys on the return team moving backward toward the ball, setting up blocking lanes for the return man. Once the return man starts running forward, the rest of the return team starts running forward, too.

Still a lame rule.

Why? Because they were tackled as soon as they touched the ball:D:D:lmao

The fair catch was supposed to help with the injuries.
This is not going to work.

Also, every touchdown will be automatically reviewed this year. Should slow it down even more. Next year they will all be wearing flags around their waist so noone gets a hangnail :thumbsdown

Why the big hair raising about this rule?:hmm
Seems to me the kickoff spot was there many years ago and they moved it back to the 30 so that more crowd pleasing runbacks would occur.....thats what mattered back then, exciting the crowd. Now its about pleasing the players wants.:blah::blah::blah:
.
Being that I'm a smart person and someone that kicked a lot of balls in my youth with excellent control....my solution would be simple. I'd use a Pitching Wedge in stead of my 9 Iron.;) Aim the ball to land at the goal or 1 yard line, get it high up in the air and give your team time to get great coverage, after all they have 5 less yards to get there.:p Kicking it out the end of the endzone is too easy and does nothing to bolster manly-ism.:D:D
