Be careful if you're relying on that. I bought the smaller version below with home defense in mind also. After shooting it a bit I realized 2 things:

1) with magazine-fed shotguns you can't keep mags loaded with buckshot or anything other than slugs.. Because the shells and the pellets inside compress and the shells become oval-shaped, meaning they won't feed at all, or won't feed reliably after about a week in the 6 round mag. The 10 roudn mag I'm sure is worse.

2) There's a reason magazine-fed shotguns aren't used more by law enforcement and others. They're not bulletproof and jam more than you'd like, as shot shells weren't designed to be magazine fed. Granted my VRF4 very rarely jams on slugs or buckshots (it hates bird shot), I wouldn't trust my life on it. It's back to glock with a flashlight and laser on it for me..

I was going to say the same thing, I almost bought a VR80 but heard a lot of bad reviews on them....my buddy was like, nah man, mine works great, you just have to break it in with heavy loads, its amazing....so I went out to shoot with him, and that thing jammed like every 3 rounds....

I know you're in Cali, but a "Judge" may not be bad? 45/410. First 2 pulls birds hot to get them to change their mind, next ones if they don't.

I have none of those problems with my one and only gun…wink wink.
A $300 12g JTS AK platform.
It has a 4 way adjustable gas block that works. And has ran hundreds of shells with zero issues, from #8 to slugs and everything in between
I have 2ea 5 round mags and 2ea 10 round mags and just ran another hundred rounds of #2 through it 3 days ago. The way the mags load seemingly places no compression on the plastic, only on the metal part of the shell.

It’s so fun to shoot that I only stop when my shoulder simply hurts too bad!! (It’s bruised right now)
It’s WAY too much fun! I seriously don’t know how they sell it so cheap.

When I had my alarm put on my truck, the upsell was a "perimeter" alarm. Radar type deal from under the truck. If your feet got too close it would go off. I elected not to go that route due to the truck being parked on the street and did not want the alarm going off every time someone walked thier dog past. Might be a good detourant parked in the driveway though.

Before I lost it in an unfortunate boating accident among others, this was my go to for home defense. Simple to use AR platform but not going through walls to the neighbors house, plus you can add tactical light and laser or customize to your liking.

I have one of these.. I keep a mossberg next to the bed along with some other stuff. The Vr80 is pretty long to be using in a house.

Really? That's your response? I know I'm not the most tactful person, but come on. How about "I don't know if a shotgun is the best choice because of the action noise. . ."

I don't want to shoot anyone if I can avoid it. If I can rack the shotgun and the intruder hears it and leaves, then that's a win for me. I understand your argument, and it's a valid one. But your delivery could use some help.

A Glock 19 is not the best gun for everyone. It may be for you, but it's heavy when full of ammo, and it's big. The best gun for home defense is the one you are comfortable shooting. Period.

These lights are amazing. We had them all over the Reno house and shop. They take 4 D batteries. Every New Year, I change the batteries in everything, whether they need it or not. One year, though, I didn't change out a couple and they lasted over two years. They are extremely easy to install, because I had Jeff install them 🤣 Seriously, though, no wiring. I assume the OP is in CA, but freezing temps in Reno didn't affect the performance.

I know I could work on delivery. Hoping an intruder on the other side of the door will leave because you racking a shotgun just isn't the thing to do or hope for. Someone with a gun on the other side of the door that hears the shotgun pump, they're shooting bullets at you through the door because they can hear you are there and can hear you have a weapon. They who shoots first wins... best to always have them looking for you while you know where they are at.
I know the Glock 19 is not for everyone nor is it the best gun out there. Where it performs is anyone that knows that a gun goes bang by pulling the trigger will be able to fire a Glock as long as it has ammo in it. There is no safeties or anything special to make it fire. How many times has anyone picked up an unfamiliar gun to fire and a safety or something from preventing it from firing was on? Now that's a calm setting. Think if you were in a high stress setting.
Little extra here... Never leave a gun in your door panel. I was getting fuel one day and had my door open a bit... guy comes up grabs the door and opens it all the way and starts harassing me for money. I didn't see it coming. I didn't have a gun in the door panel but if I did he could've easily grabbed it and held me up with my own gun. Something to think about... He eventually left with nothing but still wasn't a good feeling based on how the event was by total surprise.

Initially yes they will jam ALOT. Once you go through about 200 rounds they cycle pretty reliably. Haven't had any issues with mine once I did the break in, not to say it doesn't jam every once in a while

Actually a Glock does have safeties. 3 if I remember correctly. How many do you need?

It’s one of the best $300 purchases out there.
I had low hopes when I ordered it, I mean, how much could I really expect? Lol
It’s awesome though! I typically leave the gas block on the #2 setting. (Medium gas), for birdshot I go to #3.
You can also set it on zero and manually cycle it each round.
It’s a beast.

I keep another very reliable "backup" under the pillow, for close quarters. But my initial defense is the alarm system, if that goes off I'm up pretty quick and checking the house.

One more thing you can do….

light up the frt of your house
add light out along the curb - landscape 12v lights / Good solar lights etc this is to get a lic plate type of car etc
light up the driveway both side of the truck - back the truck in so the utility box’s are closer to the camera
light up the frt porch.

test it yourself to see how the the image is on the camera. Also if you can get a good shot of where they touch the car / truck you can have finger prints if they don’t have gloves on. You can then find out who it is….

I have a utility truck w/ boxes and that’s my plan ….

Sounds boring😜

There are 2 boats tied to the dock out back (currently don't have the keys left in them, but not uncommon when the weather is warmer)... I'm pretty sure I'll be ok.

Name the 3. I know they have the trigger safety but that's incase if the gun is dropped the weight of the trigger won't cause it to fire.

Well, I would have to google to correctly name all 3, if there are 3. I know it is more then 1. Anyways, I do remember the safety in the trigger is not to protect it from going off if dropped. Weight of the trigger cause it to fire? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

There’s the palm safety and I’m assuming your finger would be the last

I've mentioned this service before. Dronemobile. It's a tracking service for your vehicle. You want your truck or car back after it's been stolen, this is one of your best bets. Adapts to most alarms.

The "rack the shotgun" thing always cracked me up. You mean to tell me your primary home defense gun is not chambered and ready to defend your family?
Just because you rack it doesn’t mean there’s not one in the chamber😉

Wrong, just the pump action makes people leave, it's a signature sound, a cop friend of mine told me how often he responds to a burglary in progress and when they get there they see where they got in the house but are nowhere to be found because the home owner racked his shotgun, most don't even have ammo, just the sound made them leave. You also have to be pointed in the general direction of the person to hit them unlike a pistol and 00 buck is very unlikely to go through drywall, stucco, across the street and go through stucco and drywall and hit your neighbor. Outside of a slug shotgun rounds typically stay in the house. Unless you are willing to spend thousands on training with a pistol for home defense a shotgun is the way to go, mine is 100% legal and I can stand in my hallway and turn 180° with very little manipulation of the gun.
Winchester Model 12 - Pump that once. A sound well known by crooks

Those are not for Californians. I hear they hold 15 rounds and 29 shorts, but I really wouldn't know.

As for the safety on the Glocks, I know they say there are three, and of course, technically, there are. But these are not safeties like most of us imagine. They are to protect from accidental discharge (which I personally don't think exists, those are negligent discharges, IMO). They will not protect if a kid picks up your firearm and you have a round in the chamber. Pull the trigger(s) and it goes bang. There is no extra mechanism to stop that from happening like there are on many other firearms.

Negative, they are fine for California. Holds 6 in the tube and one in the chamber.

Well… he forgot to move his truck to the back last night. It could be an Amazon driver looking for an address on the street. We have had very late shipments in personal cars as well as our neighbors deliveries. Or, it could be someone casing the truck. Lights on unlike the previous car. Trying to get a video of it, but the driveway camera isn’t acting right. Will try to go on the laptop to check it out.

… in California… a must study is Case Law…a must study…
… if the truck is parked on a concrete pad, or next to a sidewalk… and the situation gets real… yes, on the 12 gauge… study angles… point shotgun on the concrete, where it will angle up and take out the thief… it’s an whoops… it accidentally went off… not premeditated… you’re still most likely going to have a judicial situation…butt… think about it…???

Haha I don’t want to answer that incase this thread ever gets pulled into a court of law.

I’ll be on the witness stand with quotes from RDP members about hiding bodies, and why I needed a backhoe fired up at 2am in a remote location in AZ.

Oh no, we won’t be getting in any trouble. Especially over property. They can take it- Im not even sure I’d wake Robert up if they taking it just to make sure he didn’t do anything even if it was just confronting them outside. Oh yes, I have heard you mentioned the judge in other threads.

There was a news story that happened about a month or so ago. A guy was selling an iPad. His wife and him met up with someone in the buyers neighborhood. Pretty soon, they had guns drawn on them over an iPad. The guy didn’t hand it to them and fought with them. I think the gun even went off. I thought how stupid could this guy be to put his wife in danger as well as his own life over an iPad. This is obviously a lot more expensive than an iPad, but it can all be replaced if some idiot who refuses to work for a living takes it. Sad times.

Thats a great price. They require break-in. They are quite accurate and so much so I put a Holosun Red Dot and mounted a good light on mine.

We even shoot clays with it...lol. I paid $800 for mine in the covid peak times so this is a steal.

We keep the loads over 1200 fps and I can spread 9 rounds 5 seconds. I leave the mags loaded with bird, buck, or slugs and have not seen any issues.

I find it odd there's been no mention or discussion of a good vehicle alarm system, which would seem like a great investment for a service body packed with tools.
As much as blowing some thief away would gratify, I'm afraid at least in CA and many states, regardless of the outcome, you'd lose everything not just some tools.

Deterrent would seem to be the best strategy.
You think there would be a car alarm with some really strong strobe lights for inside the cab. It Would leave you temporarily blind. Also an ear piercing alarm in the Cab.
