I'm with the Fon at Love Field in Dallas, waiting to board our flight to Albuquerque. I noticed a bunch of kids around 15 years old standing near me that are all wearing blue jackets with a techno inspired tiger splashed on the back. I got the attention of one of the boys, and motioned him over.

Me: Where are you guys going?

Kiddo: We're coming back from Iowa, a robotics competition.

Me: Wow, that's really cool. How did you do?

And at that, the boy broke out in the biggest smile I've seen in a long time...

Kiddo: We won the division championship!

Then he told me a few details, all the while about to bust with pride and sense of accomplishment. I have to say, I got a little choked up listening to this good looking fine young man and seeing his joy and delight.

They're not all sullen youth sitting in gaming chairs and playing Minecraft. Some of 'em are exploring the limits of technology and thinking, and doing a great job of it.

Absolutely made my day.

👍

Those are great photos, thanks for posting them. The Charger in the top picture dates it to '73 or later.

I did most of my appearances after dark. When the cops appeared and the antheap scattered, there was a better chance of escaping.

😁

I've been meaning to ask you if you remember a guy named Gino Pacelli or some similar Italian name. He had a shop on Susan Ave, near Dad's, and was a pretty dang good custom painter. He painted McClintic's Corvette and I think Steve Hight's Model A stakebed.

But he was a really bad engine builder. I can't recall the car he ran at the drags, but it had a 427 Chevy engine. Actually, several of them.

I went by his shop one day to drop off a helmet for painting. There were four or five blocks lined up along a wall, all painted nicely including a red epoxy on the interior. Every one of 'em had a large window just above the pan rail.

😁
