So StateFarm had a 22% increase in 2024.
Just got my renewal effective 02/02/2025 and my agent told me SF is having another auto rate increase of 17.7% as of 01/01/2025 for all renewals.

So time to shop.
850 every 6 for a 2014 Yukon is BS

So who is the go to

Damn I just checked and my 1 car went up $600 for 6 months. I actually thought I was getting dropped because they weren’t sending the renewal I guess at least they renewed.

Good luck. I dropped Allstate after 20 years. Put a 1 in front of that and that's where my truck is at. Perfect driving record and have 3 trucks on that policy. My 2005 Tundra is $900 every 6 months.

My wife’s auto insurance dropped her last week. Said they don’t do auto in California anymore. I need insurance on the rv anyways so I plan on just bundling everything. Progressive seems to be the best rate so far

Mercury was the best for me on my move back. $3,600/yr for a 2019 Tesla model 3 and a 2017 GX 460. Significantly more than my last insured year in 2022.

Check with Good Sam insurance. If you are insuring an RV with them, they will cover your vehicles as well.

1700 / yr honestly doesn’t sound too bad given the auto ins market in CA (if you have good coverage) my wife’s new model 3 is $1100 every 6 months…. Perfect records 😵‍💫 my daughter starts driving next yr and not looking forward to that rate change.

Do you guys have any accidents / points at all over the last 6 months months? If you have your Dec pages handy, you can shoot them my way and I can do a quick check for you to see if there’s anything better out there.

Disclaimer: insurance market in CA is wild and will not get any better anytime soon. The rates we were all used to 2-3 years ago are gone. Ship has sailed and not returning to port.

Our Health Insurance just did the same jump high percentage. It's all getting out of hand for sure.

I switched to progressive. Allstate dropped my waverunners and commercial truck policy first. So I went with them. Then my personal truck policy went up another 40% after a 40% increase the previous year.

Before they dropped my commercial truck the first increase in my personal made it higher than my commercial. The commercial was giving me a pay in full discount that was huge.

Allstate also dropped my house. My boat and Defender are only things still with Allstate.

We have Good Sam as well. We added all of our vehicles. It is significantly less than what we were paying previously.

Appreciate that.
Had a phone call with SF today and was told IF I move my vehicles, mutli-line and a few other discounts and options go away on my home-owners.

My policies date back into the 80’s so I have guaranteed renewal and no cancellation on all policies. (no matter claim history). It was an option my father got since he knew the EVP of underwriting at SF. My dad then transferred an auto policy with those options to me when I turned 18. Those options follow all my policies and are no longer offered. If I move the Yukon to someone else, those options will no longer apply!

Hate to say this, but I think I am going have to give in. Dislike the CA insurance game!

Yep! Also would never make sense to
Move 1 vehicle unless it is your only vehicle. And also never look at individual premium per vehicle… always look at your total premium. Even as insurance agents, looking at the premium breakdown per vehicle never adds up or makes sense as it always varies on how the carrier structures their ratings… example being that if you remove 1 vehicle that shows $500 premium… doesn’t always mean your premium will go down by $500 because once that vehicle is removed, others might go up and change based on how they rate their overall drivers / vehicles ratios etc. long story short, never look at an individual vehicles premium on a policy with multiple vehicles and drivers.

Geico was good for a while.. then they weren't. I shopped around and found AAA offered the best rates.

Another pro tip when it comes to insurance. You will never be happy with the premium you pay 🤣

People weren’t happy 3 years ago and they’re definitely not happy now lol

I dislike the increase. Disliked my agent could not explain why when I called. But did leave a VM while I was flying home last night.

Have had zero issues with claims, so it is a game of give and take. My limits are higher so my umbrella kicks in. When I look at total costs, I don’t complain. Individual costs yes.

When corporate explained what would go away if I moved my vehicles, I quickly decided to pay the increase. Totally forgot about those very valuable options

It’s not just CA. TX ins was insane, especially home-owners. Massive rate jumps this year

I just paid my AAA auto insurance. $1850 annual for full coverage on my '24 Lexus and '03 Toy pick up. It went up $100 from last year, but I'm not complaining.

Mine also went up 20% with Mercury. I called to ask why and explain that in 42 years neither my wife or I have ever filed a claim. The agent explained that is why our policy didn't go up 33% like most people. The say it's because of the rise in the price of rental cars, body repair, car parts, etc.

I use Wawanesa too. Cheapest and best car insurance I could find. I've had a couple claims and the shops that did the work said they were easy to work with and allowed new parts. AAA, State Farm and Allstate are horrible and will try not to pay, want to use used parts and cut corners. Never use their advised shops either. Did that once, and 6 months later the clear seemed to dissolve.

What is the deal with companies no longer offering auto insurance for vehicles in California?? I'm not in the insurance business and don't know all the details/reasons why they wouldn't offer coverage. 🤷

I switched everything to AAA about 10 years ago, House and vehicles. I have had a few claims, and they have been great to work with, very little increases as well. 2 totaled cars and a Motorhome crash as well. Welcome to having three kids driving. They just won't insure the sand car and golf cart, State Farm has those.

Because they have to pay out a lot more than they should. Newsom signed a bill that basically doubled the minimum liability requirements for CA starting next year. All the poors who were barely able to afford the minimum insurance as it stands won't be able to afford double the coverage so they'll simply go without....like many already do. The fewer policies of the drivers who can afford the insurance will end up paying more uninsured motorist claims. Cars are significantly more expensive to fix today than they were 10 years ago....and that money has to come from somewhere. They can either raise rates and take a bunch of shit for it or they can say screw it and leave to greener pastures where I imagine a lesser percentage of uninsured drivers exist.

It's unsustainable, but then again...almost everything is getting to be that way.

auto insurance carriers in CA have been losing a lot of money over the last 2-3 years believe it or not.

1. Insurance commissioner in CA did not allow carriers to take any rate increases for almost 2 years after "covid"

2. during that time everyone went out and got new cars and a lot of people crash their cars on the regular

3. huge rise in injury claims... due to most accidents happening at a higher rate of speed (distracted driving) or a lot of people looking for a payday and calling sweet James

4. lots of theft in CA.... catalytic converters, Kia's and Hyundai's etc

5. guys that work at the bodyshops all want to make more money, and so do the shop owners hence it costs a lot more to fix a car

6. car automation and sensors / cameras everywhere make the traditional 1k fender bender into a 5K repair

the list goes on... and on... and...

250/500k limits, 2k deductible. 5k mileage limit.
