If you didn't winterize your boat due it now or put an electric blanket on the engine or a drop light in the engine compartment
I don't do it because the last time this happened was 1989, I'm going tomorrow after work to drain it. I was at my chiropractor today and reminded him, he was the same as you, he hadn't even thought about that but his boat is here.Damn, the boat is in Havasu but I hadn't even given that a thought until you mentioned this. Thanks...
Is your boat inside? If so, should be ok. I‘ve never had a problem in the 35+ years I have kept my boat in a garage during the winter.Damn, the boat is in Havasu but I hadn't even given that a thought until you mentioned this. Thanks...

I'm in Simi Valley, gonna be close so I'm gonna air on the side of caution, it's in a detached uninsulated rv garage. It costs nothing to drain the block but it could cost me several thousand if I don't.Where are you guys at that you’re concerned about your boats?
It’s not going to get close enough to freeze anything. Why the panic?I'm in Simi Valley, gonna be close so I'm gonna air on the side of caution, it's in a detached uninsulated rv garage. It costs nothing to drain the block but it could cost me several thousand if I don't.
Yeah it is and because I don't have the money to throw down the toiletIt’s not going to get close enough to freeze anything. Why the panic?
Waste the water, fuk newsomI'm facing a conundrum ..
Do I drain and waste that water during this drought
or
Turn on a heating blanket or light and use the electricity????
What temp are you seeing in SV?Yeah it is and because I don't have the money to throw down the toilet
It's going to have to be a sustained below freezing temperature for a few days before the water will freeze enough to build up enough pressure to crack a block.Yeah it is and because I don't have the money to throw down the toilet
Tonight we are looking at 36, it's supposed to be colder Fri and Sat nights. It's 40 right now. Like I said I'm going to air on the side of caution, it costs nothing to drain it. There are people here that live where it will definitely freeze but normally don't have to worry about it.What temp are you seeing in SV?
LOL, I get that but I don't have 15k, I'm not a ballerIt's going to have to be a sustained below freezing temperature for a few days before the water will freeze enough to build up enough pressure to crack a block.
It'll be fine.
Ah, fair enough. Never hurts to be cautious if you are able. For anybody else living in the area or that has their boat in Havasu or Parker and can't do anything about winterizing now, there's no need to be very worried though.LOL, I get that but I don't have 15k, I'm not a baller
Had a Friend in Palmdale cracked the block in his jet boat. When was the last time someone’s block cracked on the west coast from cold weather. Honest question.
And your truck. And your wives car. And the old truck sitting out back.Well if you’re worried about crack in the block in your boat you damn well better leave your faucets running overnight.
Recently?Had a Friend in Palmdale cracked the block in his jet boat.
That’s why they have antifreeze in themAnd your truck. And your wives car. And the old truck sitting out back.
20+ years ago. That may have been in the pre-global warming ice age.Recently?
House is heated so the attic and walls won't get cold enough, even an attached garage especially with the furnace in there will be fine. Some people in Acton will have problems with this storm.Well if you’re worried about crack in the block in your boat you damn well better leave your faucets running overnight.
That's all I'm doing, good chance I won't have an issue if I don't drain it but no need to push my luck but nobody around here under 4000' has had to worry about this since 1989 (last time we had measurable snow in Simi and San Fernando Valley) and just wanted to PSA it for everyone, not something we normally think about.Ah, fair enough. Yeah, I was going to say somewhere around 4000 feet is about the cutoff. Are you near that level? That's all I'm doing, good chance I won't have an issue if I don't drain it but no need to push my luck but nobody around here under 4000' has had to worry about this since 1989 (last time we had measurable snow in Simi and San Fernando Valley) and just wanted to PSA it for everyone, not something we normally think about.
Boat is at about 1200 and we rarely see under 34°, maybe a couple times a year and that's the last hour before sunrise. It looks like we will be seeing freezing temps for a few hours, could be more or less, they are professional weather forecasters after allYeah, I was going to say somewhere around 4000 feet is about the cutoff. Coincidentally, my boat is currently parked at about 2500 feet. It has antifreeze in it, but had to take it to Savage Marine yesterday and I think they ran the left engine on the hose = no more antifreeze in there. But, it's parked in a shop and it would take a lot to get it below freezing.
Just figures the antifreeze gets taken out a couple of days before the coldest shit of the year comes through though.
AgreedWeather bug has been garbage for decades.
We live in central cal at 3000’ buddy has 4.3 Volvo, drained the block but didn’t know about the drain from intake manifold. First start up at the lake and as soon as the thermostat opened puked milkshake out the breathers. Large crack under the intake. When was the last time someone’s block cracked on the west coast from cold weather. Honest question.
In the 90's i had the freeze plugs pop on my Rayson craft, it was in the garage, PalmdaleWhen was the last time someone’s block cracked on the west coast from cold weather. Honest question.
At least they did what they were supposed to doIn the 90's i had the freeze plugs pop on my Rayson craft, it was in the garage, Palmdale

It's at my in-laws place and they don't want to leave a light on because that costs money, I unfortunately can't fire it up.You won't be able to drain all the water out of the block. To be really safe, run RV anti-freeze through it for several minutes until you see pink water coming out. That's what we do up here where it actually gets cold. It has gotten down to negative 7 here this winter (winter from hell! ). My boat is in my shop and winterized but I also have two heat lamps in engine compartment just for extra protection. I like the heated blanket idea too so may switch over to that.
Better leave it dry so you can pass the mussel inspection....lolForecast changed this morning and snow level moved up to 1500' but I'm still going to be on the safe side because these meteorologists are always correct
Yup. Big chunks of metal like engines (that are in insulated compartments like a boat. Fiberglass and upholstery is quite good at it) you'd need to be under freezing temps for days.Only be worried if its outside and the temps go low twenties for more than a few hours. If it touches 32 overnight it wont do shit
I have the lock on itBetter leave it dry so you can pass the mussel inspection....lol
