So, what does a proper "set" look like?

Looking at the flat friggin' amazing pics @Tommy Gun Images took at the 2014 Schiada regatta I found myself wondering what does the proper "set" for a v-drive cruiser look like? You know, that magical point where the hull, rigging, prop, plates and operator are all working in perfect unison to find the optimal amount of wetted surface to safely maximize the boat's potential. I'm hoping to splash my long term RC project this coming summer so the question is relevant (and timely I hope) and I really don't know what it looks like, much less feels like.

Is it this? (what ever this is, the guy in seat 2a appears to be having a helluva good time)

Or this?

This one?

I am pretty sure it's not this, but it sure looks like he's having fun.

And before the haters chime in "with top speed for any schiada always involves a trailer" lets agree this isn't the "set" I am asking about.

All of these pictures are badass!! I would say either #2 or #3 for the "Right set," but as you know, I'm no expert! I love that red Schiada, it would look perfect behind the right colored truck! 😎

https://www.tommygunimages.com/p1028586857 Again Tommy for the great photos

I can't copy and paste the image because it's copyright protected. Gary's boat takes a perfect set. The boat runs flat and the strakes create the desired lift. There are a few pics on that page.

A lot of the dynamic pics you see of the boats are a moment in time on a "hop" and not a real running "set" They make for great photos though.

Help me out here, which boat is Gary's?

BTW, looking at Tommy's site is like falling into a rabbit hole for me, I end up spending hours there especially this time of year.

It's hard to catch a boat on a "perfect set" when its running through chop like that.

Sorry.
Gary's boat is the #17 all red Schiada 21 named "Justified"

Initially I thought my link was to a specific picture of his boat, guess that didn't work out too well.

I'm gonna say it all depends on the water?

You can't have the trim/plates in the same place, for every water condition.

Glass is hard to come by. That's why they created adjustments in the first place!

There is no one size fits all on the water. 😎

I miss threads like these! Thanks for checking out the site! I’m always stoked to hear someone enjoyed it! Here are some pics of what I think is a pretty good set on a variety of boats. And I agree that Justified is one of the best running Schiadas in existence...

I’m surprised none of the heavy hitters have shared pix. Marc k, meads, Alexi, engelker/Nelson crowd, lynch, etc etc.

Randy's SR Nordic is the gold standard. His boats run the Enduro like everyone else is tied to tree stumps. No matter the water conditions.

no joke there, those Nordics are like on auto-pilot, from the shore it looks like they're the most boring thing ever to run (i'm sure this isnt the case though). Never a bobble, never a twitch, just hard running.

One of my favorite pictures from an old Schiada add. I'd say this would be close to perfect for calm water...

I remember when that "boat test" came out in Powerboat. Bob Nordskog at the wheel. That was the first time I had ever seen a Schiada. Nordskog was always a fair reviewer of boats, and always gave an honest appraisal. His glowing endorsement of Schiada was the first time I had ever seen him write an orgasm on paper.
