Any desire to work 16-18 hours a day with nothing but knowing you did a solid job?...it does come with a paycheck.

On a fishing boat in the Bering Sea, you bust your ass and find your limits then you get to fly home with a chunk of time off and money in the bank.
Most of the guys are early to mid 20's.

Get a CPR card & take an EMT class. Good door opener. If he likes working on an ambulance or in the ER as a Tech he might like being a paramedic or firefighter or nurse. Like I said good door opener & stepping stone

Not sure where exactly you're located, but I know there is a new Costco going in Huntington Beach, right at Beach and Edinger.

Your son is my age and let me tell you there's plenty of jobs out there tell him to go to online job search sites and apply to anything that interest him whether he has experience in the field or not larger companies are willing to train you rather than paying top dollar for experience and if they like how you work you will move up real fast ask how I know :)

If a kid can pass a drug test, Smart and Final is a good start.
COSTCO puts those applicants with Haz Mat certs at the top of the hiring list BTW.

A buddy of mine is with UPS in the bay area and he said they cannot hire fast enough. The long time employees are getting up there in age and the younger guys don't stay

That would be an awesome experience although would be a tough one. I'm actually surprised my son in-law doesnt work on one of those fishing boats being he lives in Wasilla, AK. He works on the pipeline in Prudhoe Bay which seems to be pretty popular for people living in AK.

I wouldn't let pay influence his job search. I would search out a trade that I thoroughly enjoyed and could see spending the rest of my life doing, and then go to the school of hard knocks and pay my dues to achieve that goal. I see too many people get trapped into needing a set income at an early age and then never getting to chase their dream due to obligations they have encumbered.

Let's the union bashing begin. Has he tried heading to a union hall and trying to get a apprenticeship? Okay pay to start with and learn a trade. If he can get solid work it takes about 5 years to get to journeyman.

Thats the truth, for every 10 we fly up 1 or 2 make it, its not for every one. You have to be your own man some kids cant handle not talking to Mom/Dad/G/f every day.

When you get tired or hurt no one cares cause their going through it too, its not easy.

The chunks of time off are my favorite part, waving to your neighbors as they leave for work is nice.

Thats a good gig, I have a few friends doing that. Considered jumping over a few years back, the time off is more consistent.
I have created the position I am in with a lot of work and just didnt want to start over.
I would recommend this to any one that asked its a good deal.
