Just happened to pause it for a phone call at the exact frame where this is visible.
Check out what I see, never saw it before!
Left hand side of the flipped over chariot.
The air tank for flipping the chariot?
This is a frame from the first Colosseum battle.

I noticed a similar screw up in the movie "Titanic". That movie set was on a cliff down in Baja (somewhere near Rosarito). During one of the scenes in the movie when they are on the deck of the ship. You can see waves rolling in toward the beach at the bottom of the screen.

Next time you see Castaway, look at the 'safety placard' on the port bulkhead of the L10-11 they are flying in .

... I wrangled cars that you see on screen for the movie and TV industry...some of the cars that they settled for were unbelievable fuck ups...With movies for television their budget was only so big...

While watching Dazed & Confused for the umpteenth time one evening I noticed during the scene in the school parking lot where the freshman girls are being initiated, in the back ground there is a early to mid 70's red Trans Am with wheels from an 80's-90's Camaro on it...

Went looking & sure enough found a couple screen shots on the web... :p

CBS has used Eliminators in many of their shows over the years ...

My favorite one from CSI Miami ...

A310. FedEx never operated the Lockheed. They do have a number of DC-10(MD-10 now) and MD-11. But the cockpit scenes show an Airbus configuration with side sticks and glass cockpit.

An air bottle in a chariot, I'm trying to find a way to use the word "juxtapose" with that...

plans and photos of a number of different planes, and it's a mix of many .

Real life has nothing to do with 'what makes a good crash scene in the movies' .

There are very few actual 'aircraft parts' in any of that set, and the 'windscreen design' was chosen for the 'water effect', during the crash sequences . IT was referred to as 'The L10-11' on set, but what does Hollywood know .

The entire 'plane' is mounted on a 'gimble' and moved with hydraulic pressure from large diesel powered pumps .

On set @ Sony in Culver City, we set up 3 containers, and the nose of the 'plane' was facing the end of them . The bottom one was used for tool storage, the middle was empty, and the top was full of water . The crash scene was done by 'tilting the 'plane down' on it's gimble, and dumping water out of the top container, thru the front windows of the cockpit .

The wording on the placard and caution strips all over the interior of the 'plane' have 'funny' non-aircraft sayings and quotes . Tough to see without stop motion and zoom .

Something else, After Tom Hanks is rescued he is flying back to Memphis in what we assume is a FedEx company jet. The inside is a GIV. On the ramp at Memphis when Fred Smith is welcoming Hanks' character home, the private jet in the background is a Challenger.

I'm.guessing the interior set is mocked up on an old Gulfstream hull.

I worked primarily on FX, anything that moves, or blows up, action equipment or devices .

When 'Chuck' (Tom) was moving around in the cargo area, I 'blew up' the toilet and sprayed all the blue water around . Later when he is trying to grab the watch, myself and another guy were blowing 'dust and dirt' using 'air movers' all around Tom and the camera people . Done in 3 takes .

In the water sequences were in the same 'tank', and divers were down with Tom as he swam UP thru the containers full of cargo . The waves in the tank were made by 'wave makers' we borrowed from Warner Bros. and rebuilt the 'air systems on them' . They were originally built for the WWII classic, Tora, Tora, Tora .

When he does get to the surface, a large jet engine is threatening him, but it is just a 'CG' image, added later .

This 'tank or pool' is the same one used as a dance floor/gymnasium in 'It's a Wonderful Life' with Jimmy Stewart.

Lots of fun, interesting times, lots of long hours and 'instant miracles' being created on demand ......

Interesting factoid...the MD-10 is actually a one off aircraft operated exclusively by FedEx. They purchased used DC-10s and modified the flight deck to eliminate the flight engineer position. It was certified by the FAA as a different model number, thus the MD-10 designation. The aircraft are operated with two man crews.

The MD-11, which was produced after Douglas merged with McDonnell, was originally certified as a two man crew aircraft.

That's interesting. I'm surprised they kept it around for 60 years.

That bothers me too, but I think it was on purpose?
I've always thought that was supposed to be part of "rats" habit of screwing up.

He tells him to put on side one of zepplin 4, but he plays Kashmir from Physical Graffiti instead.

It is the largest in door 'tank or pool', that is permanently built into the sound stage floor, for movie and TV making . Many 'out door water shots' have been done in this 'wet stage' over the decades .

It gets used all the time .
