Was wearing some vintage Kangaroos that failed as I was walking around. There is a mall up the street from the convention luckily.

So I walked a few mins to the mall to get some shoes. Security is standing around everywhere in the mall. I saw someone running out with some merchandise, no one did anything.

At least I got some new shoes from the person at the Vans store who I misgendered .

That’s the last time I buy Australian shoes.

yeah its pretty active around there you will see it all, i spent a lot of time around there while building Moscone west ... across from the parking garage on mission street there's a place called SF deli and wine... use to have one of the best real deli sandwiches around. its been a few years but its still there.

not sure if they finally took it down but the west building use to have huge expensive digital billboard the would move back n forth on the front of the building. help do the led/fiber in it but the panel was way over built and heavy kept burning up motors so it got stuck in one position for years. last i heard they got tired of throwing money at it, the big rails should still be there though.

I am making my annual trip to the Moscone center for Dreamforce (Salesforce User group meeting). The breakout sessions span a good chunk of the city around there, so I am constantly walking from one hotel to another, or the parts of Moscone. I get to "enjoy" all that SF has to offer as you have described above. My favorite moment of mental illness one time is where one person beat the shit out of an even more disturbed homeless person that was looking like they were about to attack a normal person. The fight winner was even saying things like, "don't disturb these normal people." "You give street people a bad name", stuff like that. I went to give him a fiver towards lunch or whatever, and my friend was pissed saying I was paying a fight purse rather than it being actual charity .

I was there for a conference in Dec 2021, and thought the city had turned into a shithole. Homeless and drugs were everywhere, lots of police presence around down town, and armed guards at the high end shopping areas which had their windows boarded up. I know it's always been a liberal city, but it used to at least be a good place to visit and explore downtown. Now it seems like it's been overrun by zombies.

Being a born and raised SF local, I can only shake my head and apologize to people coming in for biz or visits. It's a looong way from what it was, even in the 90's, much less the 60's and 70's that were my heyday and locals were sounding the alarm, then.

There's any number of legitimate reasons things have devolved to the current levels, but by and large, if I didn't have a paid for living situation and the wife didn't have her business here, I'd be gone.

Shame, as it's the prettiest place to look at from across the Bay, driving in. The rowdy, bawdy, gritty glamour of the City is dead.
