to run to Catalina ? back in my day, me & my Dad ran an 18 footer in the Catalina race, with NO GPS or compass  there were a FEW 21 ft daycruisers, but they were not that fast. Mike Murphy has been "training" his nephew Sam for this years race, pulling him over & back behind a jetski, with a 75 ft. rope  They're running in the novice men's class :thumbsup I've not seen the kid ski, but he looks like a young Chuckie Stearns :D built like Todd haig, zero body fat, about 6' 4, lean & mean :D

If he's got a hair on his balls, I'll pull him over in the 12'er.. :D

12er? hmmmmm.....12 foot of boat and Coors Light in a 12 pack. Coincidence? I think not!:p

I think that if you do this thing that you should use a 12 foot rope.

I'll use a longer rope, a rope that short he'd flip the boat over backwards.. LOL

We saw the guys pulling with the jet ski...they left a few minutes before we did (we could barely see their wash) and we passed them on their way back when we were a few minutes from Avalon. If their best time was 1 hr 25 min (I read that somewhere else) it was not on that day for sure. It took us an hour to get to Avalon and they had a slight lead on us the whole way. It was WAY slower on the way back.

I would do the trip on a jet ski any day...when the last time one of those things sunk? Also, you can stand or sit and take some of the abuse off the body.

I know you can do it in a 20 foot boat, but there is no way could have pulled a skier since our speed was in the d 20s to mid 30s. We also could not keep a steady speed. On a good water day I will do it again in my boat and I am sure would easily be able to pull a skier.

We ran my 21 over to Avalon in 26 minutes. On a smooth day it can be done, but a rough afternoon, no way. You'd be going a lot slower cuz you can't just smash down the swells like in a big boat.

In a 12 footer, you'd better pick your day right.....

My 19' Cobalt was originally sold in California and I have a bunch of mooring reciepts from Catalina Island so the original owners had no issue taking it over I guess.
