I was looking for a deck type boat for mead...kinda wanted a pontoon type boat.. but don't like the tubes, low power and gas guzzeling… kept seeing these chaparrals….but every one I seen had the 5.0 volvo penta…. and my thought... 40 mph boat.... upon reading, the owners claim over 50 mph with those little motors..any truth to that??? so with my everyday scan...I found this 232 sunesta limited addition...I was like WOW... it's the holy Grail of Chaperral's ...the power is a MPI 454 with a bravo 3 drive,.. only 400 hrs,,Pretty clean boat , needs the everyboat I get detail and buff...but Damn, couldn't walk away with out dragg'n it home...the new tires on the trailer....AH, date codes say's "05"

so supposedly,.. this boat has all the options, full length, full enclosed Bimini, with front and rear sleeping … wake board tower...and cup holders every where....LOL

I have one of those there Toyota Camry boats and its not the deck just a 21' and it has the 5.0 Volvo and it will do 52 with a 4 blade aluminum 17 pitch on it I have a 22 pitch and it didn't get out of the hole to well with it and a few peeps so I dropped to 17 for the hole shot when the kids wakeboard behind it. However those days are gone now for the most part and I want to try a 19 pitch to see what it does and it fuel gets a little better.

Post pics of it.

yes 80% are underpowered have the bug catcher windshield and loaded options back then really wasnt much to brag about in today's standard equipment , i looked at monterey's, chaparrals, four winns, ebbtide and a couple others... wanted a deck boat style but scored a low hr four winns 250 horizon 496/bravo 3 the open bow is huge. boats almost flawless have taken it out twice it now has 78hrs on it:D

My friends dad has a 25' Chapparal Sunesta deck boat, i think it is a 2005 or so. It has a 8.1 and volvo duo prop. Damn boat runs 62 ! I've ran next to him in my underpowered Whorelock and I can only get 3-4 mph on him, if that. But....the boat rides rough at speed, if its choppy or chewed up you have to slow way down and just plow. It isn't a V bottom, it looks like a hybrid V tri-hull of some kind. Boat does have a ton of room, huge swim step on the back.

I have a 2003 Sunesta 210 with the 5.0 Volvo. I've had it up to about 55 by myself and like bigbore500r said it starts to ride rough at speed. I usually cruise around 30-35 anyway to keep the wife happy. Gets great fuel mileage and has a ton of room. Full bimini keeps the shade and I have the extended swim step for the kiddos to play on

I’m not against it Steve. I think other people are in the same boat.... the pricing for these custom boats is outrageous so they are looking for alternatives.

Well, I took it out at mead....alittle ruff out... but not too bad.... I was head hunting for big rollers to see how it did..so here is my so far report

starts right up with the touch of the key,..I roll on the throttle and instant on plane..be'n a new to me boat,.. and the owner had the deer in head lights look, all he said was … you got this??? I never have drove this boat this fast!!!.I was taking it pretty easy.it has some cruise control for wake boarding to keep it right at speed... never used it and never will...and probley never use the wake tower..@ 45 mph... smooth and very predictable... and would hang into a turn very well...I bumped it up to the high 50's, still doing good with the full bimini up..so I still don't know how fast it will go...

lots of questions though...how do you know the gear ratio on the bravo 3 I'm guessing a 2.0??? it has 28 p props.. never heard of them being real ruff riding... and at 45 mph... it rode smoof and busted right through the big rollers....I like the pontoon lay out...and the easy going 45 mph and not having to be on pin... I think the 454 is 310 hp at the prop...??? doesn't say on the motor....this is the only one I seen for sale with 454, and like I said..the mph claims are all over the board... this one has a gps speedo , ive been over 55 mph.... still some left...

My parents have an 05 Sunesta 232 with the 5.7 Volvo (I think, might be a 6.0?) through a dual screw drive. It hops on plane pretty quick which makes it great for water sports. My dad refuses to touch the trim except when trailering or beaching and I believe the fastest he's gotten it is 46ish? I have been able to get it to the limiter at 50ish. Remember, these speedos aren't very accurate and tend to bounce around a lot.

Definitely echo what other people say that these boats ride really rough, I believe it has like a 15* V. It was definitely a major eye opener when I took my first ride in my father in laws 23 Ultimate XRI.

thanks for the post....maybe it because of the rear weight of the big block...but this boat rides boring smooth,,,I just checked the degree on the V... it's the same as the 210 parked right next to it..and that's at 18 degrees...

and again... this boat has gps… so the speed will be real close...

LOL/…. I have never heard anyone say that they didn't like their chaparral till I post' that I bought one. So another first for the RDP crew..so next question,..I paid a lot more for this boat to get the 400 hr. fuel injected 454... so now I'm guessing that it really is worth less with the bigger motor??? so the 5.0 carbed motor would have been a better buy??nobody in the chaparral circle likes fuel injection, or big blocks...like I said... I know nothing...

thanks for the post, that looks like a lot of boat for a 5.7 motor????it says 27' but that must count the rear swim step..

I dont think you are in the company of folks trying to be first at the card stop.

It is the 5.7 GXI with 320 Hp. Its not a boat for type A's

My 21' was a 5.0 GXI Volvo. It did low-mid 50s with top up and 3 adults downhill:)

I had never owned a Volvo and wasnt looking for one but ended up really liking it. The boat was a 4 month hold over purchase to use while we were shopping for a custom 21' and we ended up keeping it for 8 years.

As far as the 454 being less desirable, it may have more to do with the type of boater afraid of the HP, physical size and gas consumption. Carb vs injected, I have no idea and would not know why anyone in that class of boat would want a carb.

We Love our 232! I’ve got the front shade and never use it. It’s got the 5.0 gtx- injected. It’s an 04 with 286hrs. I sent it to AJ to upgrade the water pump, and replace a few aged parts. Brought it home, cut n buffed it. So user friendly! I don’t think mine rides rough at all, be we are usually pretty loaded with coolers, skis, boards, etc. I don’t know what the stock props are but it’ll run 50-ish at the river. Got it home (4000ft elevation) and it was a little doggy. AJ set me up with a set of props for home and it’ll run 45 here but pops out of the water like it should with a skier. I don’t know shit about props and just trust AJ, he’s said they’re like dropping 1 gear in the drive- but cheaper.
Let’s see pics Steve!

You came to the Custom car forum to tell us about your new stock Camry. So it is not surprising that there is a reduced level of interest.

Camry people don’t care about speed or horsepower. They care about ease of use, fuel mileage and operational costs.

Substitute Chaparral for Camry and you have your answers.

My B3 has the gear ratio stenciled on the sticker on the upper part of the drive, if I remember correctly it's the Mercury sticker and it's in pretty small print.

My memory sucks but I think my B3 is 1.86 behind a 496 mag swinging 26 pitch blades. 240 cobalt ( heavy bitch ). 58 GPS is the best I've seen

I have an 06 236 sunesta, 300hp vp with the dpx drive. With the factory F5 props 55 mph no problem, but you felt every bit of it. It’s like I couldn’t get on plane and trim out without it porpoising.... got me some hill marine FFIV 4 blade props 50ish mph max and it’ll handle a Havasu Saturday afternoon at 45 mph.

No, I bought it from the original owner who ordered it this way, and he changed the grey stripes to make a little different. I put the tower on for my kids. The storage space in them is amazing as well!

My 210 does the same. Approaching 40 and it starts to porpoise and trimming just makes it worse. I have a Hill stainless 19 3-blade I need to try. Currently using an aluminum 19 4-blade. Hole shot is awesome right now.

A long time ago I spent considerable time looking into these and spent quite a bit of time test driving them with different power plants.

For what they are you can NOT beat them for the money. and they are packed with features and a great boat for what they are. in fact for some reason I still think I need one.

Here's why I personally haven't bitten the bullet.

-like other have said they are a "Toyota Camry" and not something most will "Brag" about.

-they are not a performance boat or a "custom". so don't go with my personal preference of "style"

-The ride to me just wasn't there....but Im a "cat" guy.

I checked one out at a car wash once and thought it was pretty cool and well thought out.
It’s no custom deal, some parts were a little, ehhh.
But overall looked like a fun family package.
I’d prefer a Sea Swirl cuddy myself but to each their own:) I like to fish:cool:

here was my thought... we wanna have a boat that we can have all the employees come out for a get to gether… that, and something that you could let just about anyone drive..to get a pontoon that does 60 plus...100k,, most all deck boats are over 100k...hell even a new Hallett 210 is 100k...this boat was a little north of 20 k... but that because of the big block and a bunch of other stuff.....could have bought a 140k deck and lost 40k in the first year...I did water test it and it rode real smooth,..set the cruise at 45 and take a nap...so I'n not getting the ruff ride part.... but it's kinda weird... some count the swim step to be 22 ' that with a 3' swim step...this is a big freak'n boat that busts through big rollers...so I guess I don't get it yet...
