Mine (basal cell carcinoma) started 18 years ago at age 40. I visit my dermatologist every 4 months for treatment.
This all a result of growing up in the 60's when there were no such thing as sun block.

Yup.. already on board. I've been lucky and have only had Squamous Cell Carcinoma at this point. A couple full on procedures and a bunch of burning off or cutting out in a simple office visit. Only problem I have is my appointments are set every six months and hit mid summer and then again right before christmas.:grumble::grumble::grumble:

The wife and I go next Tuesday for ours.

I am a big ball cap fan. I have probably 100 of them. I always have one on when outside, especially on the boat/water. I am considering, however, getting something that covers my ears and the back of my neck a little better for this summer. I always worry about those spots even though I am pretty thorough with the sun screen.

Ok, so, probably a dumb question. Considering the fact I don't even have a regular doctor, I just go to urgent care when I need something. Where would I go to get this checked? Dermatologist I'm guessing? If anyone has a recommendation for one in San Diego that would be great.

Being blonde and fair skinned as well I'm probably over do, especially since I know my dad has had numerous spots carved out over the years, but he lives out of state. :hmm

I heard back from my friend, they will have a free skin cancer screening in May, although she is not sure of the date. She works on the coast so they usually have the clinic in Encinitas or Carlsbad. I will let you know when she sends me the date and place.

In the mean time anyone that needs a screening can go to this website and click their area and the site will list Dr's in the area that do screenings. The website also has a ton info. also.

Just get it done Guys & Gals........

My wife and I had ours done yesterday.

No issues for my wife.

Doc froze two "pre-cancerous" deals off me. One on my nose and the other on the top of my head. I get to go back in 6 months.... :(

Stopped at Sports Authority on the way home and got me a new hat..... :)

My trip to the Dermatologist Yesterday. To many hours in the sun in the late sixty's and seventies before sun screen.
PSA: Use that SUNSCREEN EVERY TIME YOUR EXPOSED TO THE SUN. Don't let your self get burned. IMAG0518[1].jpg IMAG0519[1].jpg

Ouch :( :( I'm glad they were able to catch it...

My visits are quarterly. And after the last 15+ years I know what will need to be burned and what will need removal. When I go for my checkups my Dr. asks me what needs looking at before doing her own evaluation. :D I consider myself Blessed that my exposure is Basal and Squamous cell carcinoma and not melanoma as these can usually be less problematic if caught early. But if left unchecked can do quit a bit of damage to the skin. I also do twice a year treatments that attack precancerous skin. Bottom line is with today knowledge of the effects of UV exposure use all methods of protection available.
