There's about 2-3 feet of fresh powder, and another foot at least on the way tonight. Current live cam at Mt. High

The plan is to go up near the resort, and find some hills to hike up on. Avalanch danger shouldn't be bad, especially on South-facing aspects. At any rate we will test the snowpack along the way.

Do you think the CHP or anyone up in that area would mind? Just me and my Dad, we're together a lot anyway.

I consider a lift ticket to ride the lift. Self propulsion is just borrowing the snow that is going to melt.
It's shut down. Doubt they will be grooming.

Do you have the skills, experience and proper equipment to hit back country? If so then go do your thing.

Nice. Snow looks heavy as hell but I'll take it all day twice.

If I was really hardcore I'd go up there and hike the whole joint while it's dark, have some coffee and breakfast at the peak at dawn, and just rip it on the out of bounds side of Inferno ridge, and walk back south on Hwy 2,

Double check to see if the roads are open to non residents. There was an article I saw earlier saying the local mountains were shut down to non residents

I'm soooo jealous of this idea. CV-19 forced my son and I to miss our annual spring break ski trip to CO, which is always the highlight of my year.

Be safe. Post pictures!

It's been posted no snow play, no parking anywhere up there. If you get in unseen I'm sure you'll have a hefty ticket waiting for you + you'll need the adventure paid parking pass to park on the side of the road.

I have pass to Mt High + Ikon this year. 1st year in a long time I could chase storms like I did for 20+ years many years ago. Great end to the season as far as snow fall, to bad no one gets freshy's in CA.

The only mountain I know of allowing uphill travel, ie hiking, is Alta in Utah. Can't do that with a CA plate on your truck now either. Snowboarders not allowed.

Stay the fuck at home!

Maybe, just maybe we'll get some spring skiing in Mammoth next month. They just got 6+ feet, should have snow to ski until Memorial Day at least if they can reopen.

About a week ago I was thinking of going to Mt. High to have lunch with my wife on their patio. Nobody around I thought it was a great idea. I decided to get on the Mt. High Webcam to see the current conditions. While checking out the quiet serenity of Mt. High, out of nowhere I see these two guy's skiing down the mountain. I said to myself if I was younger that would have been me...

I can't believe people would go out and ski or snowboard during a time of crisis. Don't they listen to Gavin?

Well it's social distancing from a different perspective. No lift lines or people anywhere, looks pretty safe to me...

Update: didn't end up going.. Woke up with a sore throat and headache yesturday so I stayed home.

Today, the sun is creating rapid warning of the wet heavy snow from the tail end of the storm on top of the light snow. Avalanch danger is very high today. Looks likes a small wet slab avalanch inbounds at Mt high East. Also reports of tons of natural slides on all aspects in the san gabriels. Should have some amazing corn harvest later in the spring at high elevations

Let's go! I'm not familiar with that area at all. Gonna melt fast though unless you're at high eelevation
