We went to dinner at Din Tai Fung in Arcadia and found out that they moved to mall by Santa Anita Racetrack. We put our name in and it was about 45 minutes before we'd be seated so the wife and I walked the mall. We need a bed so we walked into the Sleep Number store, we took the X12 bed for a test drive, it has all the bells and whistles and for the 20 minutes we were on it, it felt really comfortable. I asked the price for that bed and when she said $10,000 I said no way, not for a bed. She said that right now it's on sale and they're taking $500 off the price. BFD is what I thought to myself. As comfortable as the bed felt, $10k is just way too much for a bed. Am I wrong?

They were advertising that Casper mattress all over the radio stations about 8 months ago and now I don't hear anything about any more. They give you a 100 day test drive, but what do you do with your old mattress during that time if you don't like it? It's not like you can fold it up and put it in the garage or in the closet.

Anybody in RDP Land have either one of these? Any regrets?

Tuft and Needle was recommended out of PHX. Seems to be the same deal as Casper.

Fine print on the 100 day deal returns. You must purchase directly from them and if you don't like it, shipping is on you for the return.

My sleep number mattress was right around 3000 and the adjustable frame that lifts your head and feet was right around 3000 as well.
Was only the mattress 10k?

We recently bought a bed.
The price for the Sleep Number we thought ridiculous. Insane to pay that.

The Casper and all the similar internet beds are just Aero Beds with snake oil type advertising that makes them look good.

There's no f-ing way I would pay 10k for a mattress. That krazy!!! I am also just starting to look at beds, so curious what direction others have gone, that doesn't require draining my life savings, lol.

We have a $3k sleep number and it's the best thing we've ever bought. I'm a 75 and my wife is a 50. Two different beds in one.

I looked at the I8 sleep number with all the bells and whistles. It was closer to $7,500. I still have not pulled the trigger, but I will.

What I like about the sleep number beds is as comfortable as it is the day the first night, will be the same after 5 years. No valley will develop. No spring or foam bed can say that.

My friend just bought the sleep number and the sheets were 400 dollars because the 2 sides move independent of each other . Also he said if you sleep more in twined with your wife he says you can feel the difference between his setting and hers . He said he would not buy it again

I have a Serta mattress that is less then a year old and the pillow top was coming apart. I got a inspector out so I could get it warrantied. I started asking questions about Sleep number. He said the biggest problem with them is black mold can form in the bladder over time if not taken care of properly. Just an FYI.

We bought a Sleep number California king about 4 years back , don't hate it but don't really care for it I keep my side on wide open throttle (95) wife around 85 anything less is like a saggy ass worn out bed to me , slept as well on my Serta pillow top , gimmiky and wouldn't repurchase going to put it on craigs list and buy a new "tilt type" deal soon ... Slept on a water bed for 25 years and really miss it ...

Even if that were true, which I highly doubt... You could just replace the air bladder. Also, if you live in some region where it is so damp that an air bladder gets mold on it, I couldn't imagine the mold issue on a traditional mattress.

Going on over 10 years on our sleep number. I had to replace one pump motor unit at about the 7 year mark that cost me 120 bucks... Great bed for us, sleep like the day we got it over 10 years ago.

We have the I8 and the extra wifi business that tracks your sleep and allows you to control the bed with your phone. Also bought their pillows too.

We love it. Worth every penny. It takes awhile to find the right sleep number...

Sleep number also for about 7 years. My wife put a mattress cover with a pillow top on it and you can't feel the area where the 2 mattresses meet.
Best bed I have ever had but we didn't spent 10k. Ask the store if they have any open box specials or returns that are on sale, that is how we bought ours and we got the same warranty as new.

We got the i 8 a few months ago, were were going to do the adjustable base until I found out that you couldn't return the base as part of the 100 night sleep trial.

I've only got to sleep on it for a month because i was out of town. So far so good I guess, I keep mine right around 35, I despised the extra firm mattress we had before. My only complaint is that it seems hot even with the house set at 74.

We have a sleep number in our Motorhome and both the wife and I sleep better in the MH and than we do in our house bed.

Our next mattress will definitely be a sleep number the price is steep but we have replaced about 4 mattresses over the last 4 years so when you do the math it seems like the sleep number makes sense.

We had a high end Serta for 12 yrs. Just went and bought a 'Tuft and Needle'. King size was $750. 100 night test drive, and it is so comfotable. My back pain is diminishing by the day.

Have you tried moving it from the outhouse? That could be your problem right there :)

I've had an I8 for 4 years now and best investment I every made. You can't put a price on a good nights sleep. I was just a tick under $4K with their mattress cover you have to buy for the pillow top warranty all worth it. I've had the $500 mattresses to the $2500 ones and what was good for me the wife didn't like. No BS my wife gets in bed and says "I love this bed" and I don't get jealous.

I think my foam bed has a 25 year warranty for that [emoji4]

Was only the mattress 10k?

The whole enchilada was around $10k + tax - mattress, base, delivery and set-up, but it didn't include (the special) sheets for the split mattress. I don't have that kind of FU money for a bed especially reading all the negative reviews on their customer service. The 20 minutes that we were laying on the bed it was really comfortable, but at $10k, like it was said earlier I better get the TPC siggy treatment for both me and the wife at that price.

We bought online and have had the mattress a year..insanely nice. We both are in our 60's and highly recommend this mattress. The service was so good and delivery was awesome...and they called back and checked on us after about 90 days.

Try making a warranty claim and let us know how that goes...to say the mattress industry is shady, is putting it mildly.

Serta warrantied my mattress within a couple hours after the inspector left my house. The catch is they want $145 shipping to get the new one to the house.

We've had a sleep number for a little over 5 years now. Didn't go with the super thick top piece, somewhere in the middle. 20 year warranty on everything and I think we got out the door for a little under 4g's. I change the settings all the time depending on how my body is feeling. It's a nice option for sure.

I was looking at the Saatva "luxury firm" 14" pillowtop model. Just wish I could try one In a store first.

When store shopping, the mattress I like is a Stearns and Foster "Scarborough" luxury firm King. $2400.

The Saatva is supposed to be comparable to other luxury firm models in the 3-4K range feature wise.

We need a mattress bad gotta pull the trigger on something soon.

We have a new Casper and a Tuft and needle at the river house, both are comfortable but the problem with these foam mattresses is they have no edge support. If u sleep toward the edge of the mattress they just collapse down to nothing. If you stay away from the edge they are fine. We have little kids that end up in bed between us, which pushes us to the edge of the mattress so the foam mattress dealios are a no go for us

The mattress doesn't go from brand new to warranty condition over night... You have to endure months or years of declining sleep comfort until it reaches the point where its covered by warranty... We did the select comfort over 10 years ago at about 3k, but it doesn't do the tilting up etc.. So now the question is not "if" we upgrade to the deluxomatic but "when". Its hard to get rid of a 3k bed that is 10 years old and sleeps like the day you bought it, but I guess the people guest room will get the Sheraton experience one day.

I have purchased two beds from custom comfort mattress, over the last 10 years they're great to sleep on and I've been flawless . A little over $2000 for one of their better king size beds .

A lot of people love sleep number beds so they must not be that bad. The whole mattress industry is shady and the quality of the products that they use is a total ripoff. Even a bed that is several thousand dollars is made of shit materials (foams/fibers that break down) and they know it. If you decide to order a sleep number bed, make sure you drink a lot before the box gets opened at you house because you will seriously feel like you got screwed. Not saying it isnt a comfortable bed, just saying they charge A-LOT for an air mattress with some foam.

I went through this last year and decided I didnt want to get ripped off with shitty quality materials. I went with a pure latex based that I was able to customize to my liking. My side and my wife's side use different layers of foam to tweak the bed for what each of us likes. Latex is good for a long time. Around 40+ years for the good quality stuff. These guys will totally help you out and offer an in home trial. The bed is basically a bunch of 3" layers of latex foam in a zippered mattress case. They will also swap out layers of latex during your trial to help you tune the bed.

Check this vid:

The other thing that I like is that if for some reason you ever want to change the way the bed feels, you can swap out a $200- 300 layer instead of tossing the whole bed. Let me know if you want more info. This website has a ton of info, too:

Two older lady friends told me they paid over $12K for the Sleep # bed. I kept my mouth shut . The damage had already been done months ago. Geez ... I know these 2 ladies and they would buy anything from anybody. What sold them was their "easy financing" . Seriously ... reminds me of the scams in the 70's & 80's.

One of the first parts of a mattress to break down is any layer that uses a polyurethane based foam. Most "comfort foams" are made from this. Memory foam is also a poly foam. Some are more resilient than others but they all *will* break down. If you buy a mattress with memory foam, it will probably begin to fail in the first few years.

One of the best "deals" you can get would be to:
1) get a decent foundation for your bed without much if any foam or other "comfort" material on top. This could be:
 • an air bed (it would be one of the least expensive models since you wouldn't want the fancy shit on top of it that would eventually break down)
 • a high quality innerspring mattress (it would probably be a "firm" type since it wouldn't have a bunch of foam on top)
 • a 6 - 9" foam core (latex or high resilience polyurethane foam)
2) get a comfort layer (top layer) or several comfort layers that suit you.
 • poly foam (memory foam)
 • latex foam
This way you can discard the comfort layer when it starts to break down or you could change it if you want the bed to feel different. You could also split it so that each side of the bed feels different.

Example of my bed... it is an eastern king (which is 2 xl-twins next to each other) that is 12" thick. The bed is made from 9x 3" thick xl-twin sized slabs of Talalay latex foam and 1x 3" eastern king sized memory foam layer from Costco.

The stackup of foam on my side from the top (I sleep on my back and stomach):
memory foam
medium
medium
firm

My wife's side (she sleeps on her side):
memory foam
soft
soft
firm

This is all wrapped in a zippered easter king sized mattress case and looks like a real one piece bed. When the memory foam wears out, we will spend $200 bucks at Costco and have a "new" bed. We went with memory foam for the top layer because we like the way it feels (as a comfort layer) better than the latex. The latex foam by itself was too bouncy.

This approach to beds makes the engineer in me very happy.

10g's seems like a lot of duckits for an air mattress with a fancy frame. Almost like a 300.00 bottle of wine, marketing, marketing, marketing??:yikes:yikes

Best night sleep ever had was at this place

https://www.sycamoresprings.com/avila-beach-hotel/

Of course the wine and hot tubs had nothing to do with it!!!

So you have 3 layers on top of each mattress?

No. Inside of the mattress case are 3, 3" layers of latex foam plus 1, 3" layer of memory foam. Total mattress is 12" thick. There is nothing under that except for the bed frame. Sorry if I wasn't clear. The vid in my first post links to a video that show something similar to my bed.

We had a Westin Heavenly bed for 15 years....replaced it last year with a Sleep Number P6 Eastern King, Number 3 base fully split adjustable with Sleep IQ....6K but worth it... I thought it was amazing after 30 days; my back, side (sleep on my side) has never been better. We use the vibrating functions, adjustable functions often.

I thought they were expensive too...until I slept on one for a couple of weeks.

Same here, and love it. My sleep # on my side and my wife has her #. I've had a few issues with the remote that controls the bed but other then that super nice set up.

Vibration, roll over to her side and wreck her, roll to my clean side, vibration off, night night. :):):):) JK,JK
