Agreed the 260/280s are a pain in the ass at idle. But Kyle’s boat at 90 or a 280 boat at 90 are the same thing. 100+ in 21-22ft of anything is hauling ass.

True, they don’t stall though at idle. Which is one of the things that makes these boats challenging

I’ve jumped a wake, let off the throttle, and came down with one motor running. That will get your attention.

I don’t think this boat has ever stalled idling through the gorge or at all really as far as I can remember. 2x260s. Last summer it went through atleast 20 times. Just sayin🤷🏻‍♂️

I had 280’s that never stalled, my 260’s stalled all the time. Are those 15” mids?

Yup so no channel for me. With two engines at idle in gear it moves so quick. For sure ill get yelled at.
Sometimes I run just 1 engine in the channel, or just shut them off and restart in gear. It can be stressful for sure, but I love the shitshow.

This has not worked for me. Once I turn off one engine. Boat starts drifting. I’m full lock counter steering. Unless I’m doing it wrong. Teach me RDP Pros!
Maybe because mine are 260's maybe they idle a bit lower, takes a pretty big steering correction but I can go on just 1 for a bit. Most times in channel traffic or docking I just turn off then restart in gear. These boats are a hand full around docks for sure, my steering is 6.5 turns lock to lock plus shutting off to change from forward to reverse you got to plan ahead. Like Dave said, it's doable, just a bit more work.

Yeah I just gotta mess with it more. I've only put about two hours on it. Two more weeks were going from springs to topock for the spring meet up. I will definitely learn more on that trip.

I saw you docking once a year ago Sir and you “greased it!”

I even commented to my wife how easy made it look!

I'm pretty sure I've been laughed at docking at Topock before, I can beach park like a pro. As long as there's tons of room.

Twins are definitely a learning curve. Docking takes practice. My 225 pro maxes run smooth. Not getting into the teens on the mph like the 280's but into the century marks. It doesn't like glass h20 but loves the chop. More fuel consumption but the WAY cool factor compensates for that!

If I can shift with the engine on. docking would be easy imo.

2.5’s don’t idle worth a shit either. They stall randomly when shifting, when one motor stalls on these little boats while you’re docking or trailering, the boat turns sideways. Then you’re scrambling to get restarted. It’s seriously a pain in the ass.

Not trying to scare you off, just want you to know these can be a 9 out of 10 skill level to drive safely and dock and trailer.
Love the honesty...

You can’t leave a 22 with one in nuetral. It turns sideways 🤦🏼‍♂️
100% false, I idle around all the time with only 1 motor in gear because my counter rotation one won’t idle, it takes some steering input but totally doable and yes before you say it I know the motors both spin the same way, so I should say the counter rotation lower unit motor

i guess it would depend on what orientation you have the lower units. if you have them spinning inward then itd be easier to drive straight under single power vs spinning outward.

Does Essex have plans to build anything with the 22 daytona molds in the near future? I love those boats.

Bobby, I was wondering if this was Bob Sherman's old 22. I don't remember it having a name on it. As was mentioned aboce, Dennis owns 2Nasty now.
Maybe thats where I have seen it. I know I have seen that boat before.

You have zero experience with one, it’s really not.

Oh I wouldn’t say zero Paul.. ;). I came up in Parker long before ya moved there.

I remember you saying the words “I don’t like those little river boats”. And now ya manage a Schiada page.

Weirdly now I live in Havasu and am looking at boats ranging from 27-45’ long.. about the same time you didn’t like river boats I thought anything above 25’ was boring to drive.. (still think that a little bit).

Times change I guess

In my earlier post I wasn’t suggesting just leaving one in gear and running it. I was suggesting leaving em both in gear and turning em on and off as needed. I.E. the “pain in the ass”

Sounds like a lot of "business" with the twins.
I'll start looking at the single motor setups.
I don't want to hassle with shit anymore.

In fact, here is my "hassle level" in life these days....

Having owned 300'x, ProMax's, driven 2.5's and now have a 300R V8... the shifting, the response, the characteristics when idling around docks is just night and day with the new motors... As much as I would love to find a 2.5 and build a new mirage or STV with a 2.5, I don't want the headache. If I boated in a place unlike Parker without a current I would maybe consider it but in Parker you need full control at slow speed and no stalls..... If you want the feeling of a twin DCB 22 go buy a 22 Liberator with a 450, or a LCB with a single 450... these newer boats are built to support one hanging off the back and you may not hit 128-132 like some of those Mach 22's did but you will see 120-125 ....

It just won't sound as cool as a 2.5. :)

I had a 21 liberator last year with a 300xs and I'm not sure why someone would want twins on one besides the cool factor. Mine was set up with a smaller prop so I think it topped out around 90 but the torque on it was insane. If you go to the bigger prop it would touch 100. I know Randy in florida is building the 21 and 22 liberators with 450s on them and i think those are topping out around 113. If i was in the market I would definitely be looking at his boats

His 300r boats run around 110 the 450s are well into the 120s, crazy. I believe we have RDP members with both setups.

The 60-100 is why I love the twins. Feels like I’m about to die. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

My brother in law and WOT marine are partners in a 22 dcb with 225's on it i believe. And i still have yet to drive or ride in it but they say the same thing, 40-80 is just insane!

I am pretty sure OP's original question was can a k-boat go through the channel?
