So 2 Christmas's ago my gf got a hold of Mike Mack and got me a gift certificate to go ski w/ him. I have tried to get up on a single ski off and on for the last 5 years or so and have been very unsuccessful lol I have really wanted to get it figured out though. I have a place just south of Parker, bout a 20 min car ride, and we just never seem to be able to make plans to get outa bed and get up there. That's why I had this gift certificate for a year and a half! Well we went out last weekend and didn't take anyone that needed entertaining and we make plans to go see Mike sat morning. I was told that I'd be the first one on the water at 7:30. I tried real hard to not drink to much friday night and tried to get to bed before midnight. Well, one of those happened, my alarm went off sat morning and I got up, head pounding a little, guess I might have drank too much?!?! I was up though and I was determined to ski, we took off for Parker. Got to Mikes dock and he set me up w/ a ski and we talked about what I knew and what I had been tough to do. He gave me some quick pointers and said lets go! That dude is worth his weight in gold!!! He got me up on the first pull!!! Its pretty amazing what can happen when you have the right person teaching. And its pretty amazing how fast you can learn. I also found out how far outa shape I really am, I got 3 pulls in before I was winded and ready to stop, we were probably out for a half hour. A little hung over and definitely tired, we headed up to Road Runner for breakfast and a Road Raper.
At almost 30, I can finally say that I can water ski, something that I grew up watching my parents do and something that I really wanted to conquer. I think Mike was just as excited as I was. My parents had sent me to ski w/ him probably 20 years ago, but whatever I learned then was never put to practice and I had forgotten. Now I want to get back out and ski some more and Ill probably looking for another boat to ski behind. I'll ski behind my flat, I'm sure of that, but my gf cant drive it and only having 2 buckets will be tough too. I see an outboard in my future here :eek
