Skater factory just getting back to work. I heard they are very busy on a brand new 58' cat!!!!
I'm sure customers are glad to hear it. More importantly, I'd bet the employees are even more happy.

Damn 58ft cat! Not going to be seeing it in the channel much

Judging by the scoops it looks like you can fit four inboards, will probably make a good Parker boat👍

I see 2 hatches in the forward deck. Is there some type of usable cabin under there?

So basically the cockpit is the only usable space on 58ft of hull?

It’s a Skater- the name means business!! You want some froo froo BS, call Randy at MTI!!

that 588 will run 150+with 1350s I guarantee it. No boat is faster/more efficient than what Pete builds!!

That 2 or 4 1350s lol?

With Skater being back working, I'm getting some updates. Tony sent me these two pictures yesterday. They aren't really new but are a view I haven't posted yet of the cockpit/engine bays/tool box. first photo is the large single deck hatch I decided on. Its gigantic and storage goes down into sponson area.

Tony also informed me that my boat was being "Cheesed" today. Yet another interesting process that as far as I know, Skater only does. He promised me some pictures of that process. He explained it to me in detail over the phone. I'll do my best.

Apparently, This process "Keeps all the bodywork solidly in place, adds rigidity". (Per Tony)

They lay the Cheesecloth on, roll resin in. It is then final primed and final sanded.

Yet another process that justifies both time and cost.

I absolutely LOVE the large hatch in the bow, makes a ton of sense.
Thank you very much for sharing this process with us.

Thanks for that. It really is am amazing amount of room in there. Tony told me guys are throwing all their luggage in there when they go to Key West. I see "All my camping gear going on there when I go to Lake Powell."

You could literally crawl in there and close the hatch. I am having them install a large, fender holster for 6 fenders in there as well. Thew underside of the hatch will be paint matched and I think I'll have Steve add the boat name there as well.

Best thread of the year! Really interesting seeing how they do things. The man hours on some of this stuff is unbelievable.

Thanks. Progress and update photos are slow coming at times. But, that's the nature of the beast. Then throw in a 8 week shutdown...

When Tony said "We're Cheesing your boat tomorrow", I said, WTF?. I am constantly amazed at the long list of seemingly small details that Skater goes to.

Once we are in paint, I'll be off the rails.

I'm not sure that's Peter? Hard to tell. It would certainly be just like him to be sanding on a boat though.

I thought I saw somewhere that one of the painters at Skater is a chick? Pretty rare if that is true.

True. It sounds hard to believe but the booth at Skater is wide enough and long enough to paint two 438's at the same time. They will fit side by side no problem. They hired a woman. I don't know ANY of the details. She's either moved on or it didn't work out for whatever reason.

Painting at Skater is a real bottleneck. If they could run two at a time it would greatly speed up production. My boat's paint is relatively complex. Steve said its 5-6 weeks to paint it.

Here's a short youtube Steve the painter put up
