Let's talk SLOT CARS. Damn we had a bunch of them. I remember an Orange Car named La Cocaratcha or something like that. Franks hobby store, maybe another name before on Tustin Ave in Orange was our hangout!! Put the dime in and turn the knob and a kid was in 7th heaven for 10 minutes.

The place I went to had a pretty big track. It was in a strip mall kinna deal, and took up two of the units! One track took up one whole unit, and their was a smaller track for practice in the other unit with the cashier, parts counter and shit like that. You would pay at the cashier for X amount of time on the track.

It was the cool place to hang out when I was in grade school. All my paper route money went into my car!

I remember the Cucaracha. It had a magnetic spoiler that popped up. I actually had a batmobile. Also had cool green one called the Asp. Sice I lived in Daly City I used to go the Playland in SF. They had 5 or 6 different tracks. One was huge. The straight away must have been 25 ft long. Had some fun HO cars as well.

I grew up with AFX slot cars. Still have them and even have bought a few off ebay. Bought a new Afx setup. Those cars haul ass. They have a 3 position switch, Beginner, intermediate and expert. Expert you better have the railings on the track because they won't stay on the track.

I have memories of my Dad racing slot cars in the late 60's. There was a race track on a pier, like near Redondo Beach. I was like 3 or 4 years old, but I remember. Growing up in the 70's my buddy and I would go to the Simi Swap Meet and buy and collect AFX slot car tracks. We would join them altogether and make a massive track. Those were the days.

King Harbor, lower level at the horseshoe pier. a couple of the Redondo high teachers started it with one or two tracks that came out of the old Hawthorne race track on Hawthorne blvd.

I had slot cars with the plastic tracks that used pins and U connectors to put together. What brand was that?

This brings back a lot of memories. My dad used to take my bro and I every weekend and we would build the cars up with a new part. Great times.

Ya, you could put whatever coin in and turn the knob and that started the countdown. That was way over 50 years ago but my mind seems to think one could gather up folding money, $1.00, and give it to the kid behind the counter and he could turn it on for whatever one could afford. A $1.00, that was a lot of scratch back then, hell you could buy a Revell model from the other side of the Hobby Shop for $.98 and $.2 tax for that buck. Decisions, decisions for a young kid!!!!! And for that matter, the fricken candy shop was right up the street. Damn, how'd I make it to this age with options like that!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used to do 1/24 drag racing, we had a slot car track pretty close to my house. I mowed a lot of lawns to support that hobby.

All of my stuff was stolen with my tools in 2016, except one car that's just basically a shelf ornament now. I think there are 2 tracks still left in Vegas, but I'm not 100% sure.
