I have a 2012 silverado with a Bose system. To me it has no punch to it or bass and sounds very mellow. I have read that these are very complicated systems. Any ideas on how to add some punch to one of these. Thanks

There are numerous things you can do those systems. There are adapters made to integrate into te factory system.

In the center console is the Bose amp. It's easy to disconnect the sub there and tap in for a low level converter. I did this on my 08 and am actually pretty happy w/ the setup.

I bought a REQ-5 to do a full setup w/ new speakers and a mids amp but really like stock mids plus my amp setup enough to not mess w/ it for a year now.

I agree with what's been said, I have upgraded all the GM Bose units in our vehicles over the past 10 years. Add an amp and sub to start with. The boys at Al and Ed's added a mono sub amp and two 10's behind the rear seat on my first silverado and it sounded pretty good. You can alway add another amp to power the rest of the speakers later. In order I'd go sub and amp with stock head unit, then after market head unit, then amp and speaker in doors.
