I am always surprised at how often I see military aircraft when I am at the river. In August last summer at Pirates Cove we saw packs of Apaches a couple hundred feet off the deck, a pair of Ospreys in semi vertical mode cruising up stream, a couple of sea stallions and black hawks, and a number of Huey's.

Where do they fly out of? I couldn't find any nearby bases on the maps other than Vegas.

I have at least one friend who has flown over in an Osprey, told him let me know ahead of time and hang out the back for a photo. I regularly get photos of helicopters flying low down here, sometimes the planes, but usually can't hear them far enough ahead of time to grab a camera.

This one landed at the airport here, I could hear all the noise when he slowed it down.

The entire Imperial Valley, AZ and NV are plastered with MOAs and ranges. There's a MOA on top of the Salton Sea, and either side are bombing range, R2510, 2507 etc. In addition there are numerous low level routes.

Nice shot Barry! :tbi

They showed up this morning to do some jump training. Yesterday it was the Short Bros. doing the heavy lifting.
