First I'm assuming that's a 3/0 not a 4/0 round box --- if it's 4" it's easier as the Leviton 5059 available at Home Depot will easily fit. OR you buy the Leviton 5059 and re-drill the holes to mount on your 3.5" box. OR you leave the porcelain fixture and screw this little do-dad into it --- not pretty but it will work.

I should add --- another alternative is ripping the box out and installing an old work (Cut-in) rectangular box.

I picked up some of these shop lights and I am wondering if I can convert these single ceiling lights to a outlet socket without changing the circular electric box. Does anyone know of a single outlet socket and plate that would fit?

I replaced one of the old shop lights I had and it worked really nice since the electrical box was the same size of a outlet socket and plate I already had.

Well with all of 38 watts load, should work just fine --- so long as you don't mind losing a few Bling Points

Yeah, it a 3" box. I have that little do-dad deal that I have used in the past but I just wanted it to look a little cleaner. Thanks, now I at least have some idea what it is called and who makes them. I checked on www.lowes.com before I posted but didn't see anything. I guess they just don't make a 3" version.

The t-5 HO florescents i put in (about 1/3 ~4-5 years ago, and the remaining 2/3 two years ago when this thread was posted) i have not had a single bulb or ballast go bad, and they get run just about 7 days a week, 10 hours a day. Things are badass and cheap. about $125 per fixture including the 4 bulbs.

Do they have these at Costco that are hard wired or can these be hard wired?

You could surface mount a new box over the round box.

Just picked up 3 more of the LED shop lights (2 LED tubes) yesterday for $20 each at Costco.

They have a receptacle in the end of the fixture so they can be linked (plugged into each other). They have a chain pull switch or can be left on so you can connect them to your existing box and wall switch. You can cut the plug off and hard wire them in.

So I bought some, I'm not impressed. Someone in here owes me $70. While they have a nicer light to them and are brighter, they are more of a pinpointed light instead of a glow. I have 3 fixtures (6 lights) in my garage and when I changed all the lights whatever was below them was very lit up but the walls had almost no light on them. I ended up changing one fixture back to fluorescent lights.

Here they are side by side.
