I'm switching my garage/shop over to these from fluorescents. These are brighter and don't have to change out like fluorescent bulbs with ballasts. Last day of sale, $24.99/ea.

I just finished switching my entire shop over to 48" t5 HO high bay fixtures from the old t12s. I put 4 of these fixtures in about 3 years ago in the back over the waterjet machine and some parts shelves where it is really difficult to get a ladder to change bulbs. I hadn't had a single bulb go bad or dim in that time so i changed all the rest about 2 weeks ago.

I went from 40 fixtures, 80 bulbs, down to just 16 fixtures and have over 50% brighter light on a lumen meter, i went from just shy of 50amps of lighting down to about 31amps. So 35% less power consumption.

Those god damn t12s were absolutely killing me, i swear they have a lifespan less than incandescent bulbs, a bulb or ballast would burn out at least once a week, and it's a huge pain in the ass to move everything to get the 14' ladder in there. I spent more time changing god damn bulbs and ballasts than working it seemed like :D

There used to be continual rows running the end to end in the shop, you can see where the heat and static left lines on the tiles from the old lights, It's incredible how much brighter these things are with so many less of them.

(Don't mind the mess, everything is rolled out into the middle of the shop as it's been spring cleaning week, detailing the floors.) :p

That's exactly why I'm switching, every time I turn on a switch a bulb is out. Plus these don't have to warm up and they don't hum. Did I mention there brighter also? [emoji6]

Those fucking things were like my arch nemesis, it wasn't even the cost of fixing them, they are pretty cheap, it was what a huge pain in the ass it was, and it was never ending..... :thumbsdown

Those days are behind me. :p

That's what I put in my shop. They are awesome! I may have over done it, but I'm old and I never wish I had more light.

I have a T-5 HO as my main bench light, but I needed abetter light over the sink...got the costco and it's great. Mike at REX marine had the t_5s and damned near blinded me (not hung overhead, set on racks near work).

Both are great, although I think the T-5HO throws the light farther, better fo a high ceiling. The LED is a lot cheaper, especially on sale.

I just bought another 10, love they have pull strings. The last 10 I bought didn't have strings but the old lights were switched to it worked out great. Now I just need another 8.

All total, I bought 34 of them this month to do the entire shop. :yikes
I'll try to Craigs List the old ones, If they don't sell I'll take them to Goodwill for tax credit.

Yeah, they are $30 each now, still not a bad deal. I got back here a few minutes after midnight and they had pulled the ones out of my cart so I could not complete the deal.

I recently spent $92,000 on LED lighting for the plant to replace 114 400watt MH fixtures, about 123 8' florescent and 98 4' florescent fixtures. :yikes
Getting a rebate from SCE for $34k and will be saving an estimated $53k a year on electricity so ROI is well within reason.
On the 400watt MH we are replacing one to one with 144watt LED fixtures that actually have more lumens.

You can now use any OLD 4' or 8' housing, REMOVE THE (good/bad) BALLAST and have DOUBLE the LUMENS of the old shit .

Places on the net, like LEDlighting.com, offer replace ment LED bulbs that use 110/120V AC directly, NO BALLAST !

If you know the difference between a 'green, white, black, rad and blue wire', YOU can retrofit your existing fixtures and save 'a pant load of cash' .

Bulbs in 4' and 8' cost between $10 and $35 depending on 'watt usage and color of the light' . (warm/cool/daylight)

Don't buy new fixtures if you only need NEW BULBS or BALLAST ............

Now you tell me, lol. [emoji3]
Seriously though, I have not seen the conversion bulbs that cheap. At Costco the conversion bulbs alone are more expensive than the new fixture that includes bulbs. This unless you have seen them less expensive?

For what its worth I was just at Costco in Simi yesterday and they had a special on 4' LED Shop lights. I dont remember the brand or any of the specs but they looked to be nice lights and they were like $20 each after a rebate. I looked at them because I was bummed that they werent offering the same deal when I installed them in my trailer a few months ago.

I'm guessing those are the led replacement lamps, do they utilize the existing ballast ?

No. Sorry man. Just realized I accidentally posted the old fluorescent lights i had. I'll try and get pics posted up after with LEDs.

I dunno man....hard to tell in my pic. The ones I always see in the store are always 2 bulbs. They're either a 2 pk box of bulbs only, or a 2 bulb in a fixture. Just sayin....:D

I picked up some of these shop lights and I am wondering if I can convert these single ceiling lights to a outlet socket without changing the circular electric box. Does anyone know of a single outlet socket and plate that would fit?

I replaced one of the old shop lights I had and it worked really nice since the electrical box was the same size of a outlet socket and plate I already had.
