Tomorrow is my usual grocery store day. I live in a small town so I'm kinda anxious about what I'm going to see when I walk in there !

All was normal at my small-town grocery store yesterday evening. Very quiet. Plenty of TP and water still on shelves.

Maybe the hurricane and so many people without clean water a week later was just a wake-up call to folks that they should have a supply of bottled water on hand in case of an emergency, or catastrophe.

Its because of posts like this on every social media page...people go online to say, oh I was just at Costco and all the TP is gone, so then the next person is like oh I better go get some before its hard to find, then that person goes and then makes a post about it...then the cycle continues until there is no tp left to buy...

I saw this and then turned on my Facebook and sure as shit...you are right. I blitzed over to Costco and they were almost out of toilet paper. Everyone coming out had 2-3 bundles and paper towels. Told the wife and she just yelled at me for not getting 5 bundles.

I recently saw mention of the Maritime dock strike. WTF, these are longshore men, and dockside cargo handlers. They are striking for raises and against further automation. Automation exists. Did the Navigators on those ships they’re offloading have a legit bitch when GPS became a thing? What about the Radio Operators when GMDSS was installed on ships? If the owners of those terminals wish to automate, that’s up to them, not those who handle the cargo.

GMDSS may not have been mentioned here before? It is a very good system and came into being during my career. It is commonly used on commercial ships, vessels carrying more than 12 passengers and large yachts. USCG licensed Masters were/are tested on it and had to demonstrate proficiency. Pretty much, it is multiple choice selections for Broadcasting maritime emergency situations. Included is the ability to broadcast and recieve Voice Coms over International emergency frequencies. It is a good system. It is/was Automation. It was an improvement. The position of ship’s Radio Operator/Officer nearly disappeared. No labor strikes occurred.

Went to Havasu Walmart yesterday not for TP, but did notice the TP was completely gone as well as most paper goods. A lot of other items were very low, such as bread, coffee, etc.

I think I’ll head to the store and see if I can get more TP.
Not because of the Longshoreman,
Not because of the floods,
Not because of supply chain issues,

I’ll buy it because
I don’t know what else will happen in the few weeks as we get closer to the election!

I hope there are no returns allowed and all these fucking assclowns can live in their TP forts for the next 5 years.
Lol, since they're going back to work I just told the wife I bet there's a big return line for the dumbfks that bought 6 cases of tp.
Best bet is to just use them to make all their chicklets sellers ghost costumes later this month.

Kinda, but we only had a couple rolls so we needed it. I didn't go overboard, but I did buy one bundle. We are getting ready for a move so have no stockpile of anything at all right now.

That is what happened to our daughter, who was 6 months preggo, and son-in-law. They moved from MT to ID for work and had very little supplies because of it. This was the second week of March . . . 2020. They had stayed with us in Reno for the 2 months beforehand, so they didn't have any food supplies to speak of either. Then all hell broke loose and they couldn't get anything. Not even spaghetti noodles or rice. So my mom and I each mailed her a large box filled with TP, peanut butter, noodles, rice, oatmeal, etc, because we are doomsday preppers/hoarders and had enough supplies for ourselves and our kids.

So I get the moving thing. I'm really sad that I got rid of all my canning jars when we left Reno, now I have to go buy more tonight to pressure can the 75# of carrots that I'm hoarding. 😜

…Had quite a few cars upholstered in Tijuana Mexico in my younger days… The upholstery shop we used… Tijuana Trim… Didn’t even have a regular shop… More like a lean to affair… But they did incredible work…
…On one trip… I really had to poop… I asked one of the upholstery guys if they had a bathroom…and he gave me a strange look… Pretty soon the guy that owned the business shows up and we spoke a little bit…then he said OK…you can use the bathroom, but you have to use newspaper for toilet paper… And then do not flush it. Just put it in the trashcan next to the .toilet. … Mind you…All of this was being communicated in Spanish.. Linguistics at the time… was not my forte🤷🏽‍♀️… just one of those things you can never unsee… But to this day, I’m OK with driving around with just a roll of paper towels in my car… Sort of multi purpose stuff🔍…-and I suppose if I was…side of he road and out of paper towels… And had some newspaper I would use it…👍

One of the kids has IBS so we’re extra stocked on TP.

That and walking into the grocery stores during Covid and seeing empty shelves triggered us to double down on food and supplies.

Actually it was the Northridge earthquake that got us keeping a 30 day supply of provisions on hand. Shelves emptied fast too.

Local LDS church had a vast basement full of necessities and gladly assisted non members in the aftermath of the quake.

I have mexican friends/family members that have great modern plumbing here in the US that still to this day throw their shit paper in the trashcan and not flush it...
