I keep getting pop-ups for Dollar Shave Club, Harry's Shave Club, and even Gillette Shave club, anyone use any of these? I've been using a Gillette Sensor Excell the last 25 years and seems to be fine and have buying blades on eBay for the couple of years 'cause they're so damned expensive at the store. Are these clubs worth it? Are their products any good? The Gillette Club has the same stuff as at the store, but is there any real savings?

The reality is that the multi blade trend has been one of the greatest all time scams ever. It was a way for shave companies to charge double and triple for a product that does no better than a single quality blade. The big company multi blade shavers are crap and the markup $$ is phenomenal.

These clubs are most likely getting the exact same blades as the big companies but are keeping the prices within reality.

I've used Dollar Shave Club for years now, maybe 4 or 5. They've been great to me and the order is never late, really good service. You can set the schedule for whatever you want. Doesn't have to be just monthly.

There are others out there that I'm sure are just as good. I've just stuck with what works and it's like $10 a month.

Hope this helps. I've literally shaved with a big company (Gillette) on one half of my face and Dollar Club on the other and cannot tell a difference whatsoever.

If I had any patience before work I would go to a single straight razor and face butter [emoji106]

We had the guy from the dollar shave club commercials speak at our agency a while back. He actually owns the company and made a fortune when they went public...he's even more funny in person, the guy is a riot.

Subscriptions are where it's at. A few bucks a month from millions of people is a great revenue stream.

+1 for Dollar Shave. Wife and I have been using them for about 3 years now, shipments arrive like clockwork. Best part is a few days before they ship they shoot you an email asking if you want to add anything to the shipment. Their new lipbalm is pretty legit as well. Haven't tried any of the shaves, butters, creams etc but heard good things.

So, how does Dollar Shave Club work?

I'm assuming a monthly fee for a certain amount of razors per month??

Yep. You build a package based on what suits your needs. Set a timeline for them to be at your doorstep, then boom... magic [emoji106]

You get four cartridges of a 4 blade razor. You can set the timeline for however often you need to change a blade depending on what kind of face you have lol.

For me, I have a beard so my shaving is limited to just my neck. I average a 4 blade cartridge once every 9 or 10 days before I throw it out and install a new cartridge. If I had to shave my entire face every day I'd probably average a cartridge a week. Maybe a little longer because I don't have a course face.

Because I'm not going through cartridges that often I moved my shipment timeline to every 5 weeks versus 4.

The expectation, or average, is a cartridge swap each week. Since they ship four cartridges in a pack it's estimated you'll probably need a shipment every 4 weeks. Pretty easy to figure out how they got the name of the company [emoji2]

This is how they ship...

When you sign up is when you choose which blade handle you want. The handle ships on your first order and then after that they just ship the cartridge pack.

I shave inconsistently, tried the clubs came back to "bulk buying" Fusion blades at Costco, a use the "hair clipper" feature to cut thru the thick sh*t and finish up with a triple blade and Cremo cr?me (good stuff) might go a week or two, self employment rules (no dress codes) ;)

buy a straight, strop and hones and never look back

I'd have a straight if I had patience. I haul ass in the morning and just don't make the time.

I never miss an opportunity to get a straight shave, never [emoji106]

then buy a safety razer the blades are about 25 cents and you can get almost s a week out of them.

Thought about that. Maybe I'll look into it. All these blade gimmicks can't hold a candle to a straight. Best shaves I've ever had.

Yeah I switched to Harry's which are good quality for the price. Then switched to a safety razor with a quality brush and proper shaving creams, soaps and balms. Such a better shave. After the bloody learning curve of course. [emoji28]

Harry's seem to have higher quality looking products, at least that's how it looks.

It seems that spending $40 on blades for a year at Costco or eBay is still cheaper than these shave clubs.

As far as straight razors here's another club that promotes single blade razors: https://shaveselect.com/

I only shave 2, maybe 3 times a week depending on what I have going on.

I go through blades though because I haven't stopped shaving my arms since playing football in high school.

Even with sales at Target they are expensive.

I have been waiting for my wife to get me dollar shave club as a gift but it has never come. Guess I should stop hoping and just sign up.

So dollar shave club sends me the executive blades for 9.81 to my door. That's 4 cartridges a month.

Costco sells a Gillette 16 ct pack for 58.99 plus tax.

Now I can probably stretch a blade over two weeks but since I get four a month I change them out weekly.

9.81 X 12 = 117.72 OTD

48 cartridges

Costco pack you probably at a minimum have to buy two so that's 118.00 before tax for 32.

So for me the subscription makes sense. At a minimum I get more blades for the same amount. And if you really wanted to get cheap lol you can stock pile blades, cancel the subscription and then start it up again when you need them.

I get direct from Dorco, they make blades for some of these others including DSC I believe. I buy when I need which is not often, beard, shave every other day or so, I don't need constant supply of blades showing up. I priced it out and for me the shave clubs were way more money. Quality seems fine comparable with the big names in stores, which I used for years. I buy the 3 blade type because I think the high blade count is just a waste of money, and the 3 blade type are dirt cheap.

I have to shave every other day and I also shave my head. I tried DSC because of hearing how great and cheap is was. Started out with the middle shaver and it was ok then switched to the exec. which I think was 9 bucks a month plus tax.

I was using the Gillette Fusion before DSC and I have to say that the DSC was no where near the shave I was getting from the GF. Plus when using the DSC it would get loaded up and stop cutting all together. Another difference was that one GF cartridge lasts forever I can shave with one for over a month with a great close shave. No way DSC lasts that long so at $9 plus tax a month thats over $110 a year.

I'm now back to GF and get them through Amazon at like $16 a four pack every three months which is cheaper and a better shave. .02

I use a 4 blade gillette and no shave cream (shave cream is for women. LOL ). I use each blade for about 6 months. They seem to work great until the little lubrication strip wears out.

I have always wanted a straight razor shave, but have never had one.

Here is what I am doing with Dollar Shave Club....

1st it was just me. I have the middle range blade $6 a month. Found myself not changing weekly but like every other week. Blades were stacking up.

2nd Tell the wife to try it and she digs it - order another handle - Free no worries. People at Dollar Shave Club have personality, Your not calling overseas Mary who talks with no vowels. Americans on the phone for $6 bucks a month. It obviously can be done.

3rd Get the daughter involved - She's happy with it. Order another handle and I tell the customer gal what were doing and she said Awesome and shipped another handle again for free.

So now for $6 bucks a month everyone except the 13 year old boy is on the system. I figure I am saving an Honest $25 a month and the wife/kid are using a better product than the disposables which are creeping up in price.

I bought a safety razor couple years ago and a 200 count box of blades and have been more then happy. The safety razor was 20 bucks and the blades were another 20 bucks on amazon. I get two to three shaves per blade, you could get more out of them but for that price why not switch them out. I also use the badger hair brush and the shave soap.

I guess no one uses this one...

micro-touch-one-review-good-dad.jpg

I did. It worked "OK". Shave was close, but I would nick the shit out of myself with it. I only shave with a razor on Mondays and use an electric the rest of the week.

Fusion user.
Want to try the newer dual lube one but still have current blade inventory.
Each lasts me a month or two or three depending on how often I feel like grooming. [emoji1]

I only shave with a razor on Sundays and the electric Monday through Friday. I let my face and skin rest for one day before using the razor on Sunday.

I buy the Mach III disposables. About half the cost of the refills and last just as long. I get two to three weeks out if a razor.

I call BS on any subscription service like this.

So long as you are using any multi-blade razor you are getting scammed. Spend the $55...get a Double Edged Safety razor ($30) and buy a box of Feather blades ($25) and call it done. I bought a box of 100 blades for $25. The box of blades will last me about 2-3 years...the razor will easily last 5-10 years.

http://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2016/07/20/report-unilever-to-pay-1b-for-la-based-dollar-shave-club/

Consumer products giant Unilever says it has agreed to buy the fast-growing California-based men?s grooming business Dollar Shave Club for a reported $1 billion.

The start-up company sells razor blades and other grooming products direct to consumers via its website.

Unilever, which already owns personal care products including Axe, Dove and Pond’s, said in a statement Wednesday that Dollar Shave Club has “transformed the shaving category with its lifestyle brand” and has built a membership of 3.2 million since its establishment in 2012. The company had sales of $152 million in 2015.

Michael Dubin, founder and CEO of Dollar Shave Club, says “DSC couldn’t be happier to have the world’s most innovative and progressive consumer-product company in our corner.”

Dubin will continue to serve as CEO after the takeover.
