When you want to use the AC in your house to lower the temp, do you turn the AC "up" or turn it "down". :D

Turn it down. You turn the stat down (lower the temp setting) to turn the unit on and make it cooler. 50 years in the trade and thats the way it is.

Turn it down - lower the temp.

My wife doesn't seem to understand that the air coming out is the same temp and the thermostat just controls what temp it shuts off. She always thinks the lower you set it the colder the air and the faster it will cool the house down. :D

Wrong...you turn the ac up when you want it colder and you turn the heater up when you want it hotter...same as when you are in your car!!! :D

Cold is a lack of heat...you can't add cold, but you can subtract heat.

So you keep throwing commands at the person near the t-stat until you get the desired result :D

Y'all are some funny mofos.

I like the thinking of "turn the tstat all the way down to get colder air faster"

:D

I say "turn the air down" to make it colder" and turn it up to make it warmer. Works for both dimmer and winter.

No shit! Do you want to be right, or do you want to be happy?

When I'm right, I'm happy:D

Hey, it doesn't happen very often, I gotta take it when I can. :p

LOL, all the women in the pool were split 50/50 on this question. Easy entertainment I tell ya.

Depends on your ulterior motive... wanna get lucky, turn it up... Wanna piss her off, turn it down... simple as that...

I didn't read all the posts but when you make the house colder you lower the # on the thermostat so there for you are lowering the temperature.

Thank god they have a digital thermostat... imagine the confusion if they wanted to crank it up or down but had to slide the selector left or right...

Old skool is "turn" it as most folks don't have the old honeywell thermostat. now its the digital push button kind. In a few years this thread will be as useless as asking a kid if its a quarter till noon and getting the blank slacker look . Damn... I will miss analog.

Don't argue, just get another brew and stand in front of the Refridgerator for a bit. If that doesn't work" Crank up the AC, it's f'n hot in here"

Crank down the thermostat and up the electric bill. Women will get that! Just have to give a very direct instruction on what to do. "Honey, will you please set the thermostat to 75, thanks babe. Oh and while you're up get me another beer."

Riddle me this:
Why is my wife freezing cold at 73 degrees in the winter, but "oh my gawd it's roasting" when it's 73 degrees in the summer? :hmm
