So as a content producer I'm always asking myself how we can do things different or better.. I have always enjoyed the "style" of videos that RDP puts out which I would define as kind of a "sizzle reel". Just 3 minutes, music, and action until it starts.. With the advanced guys like Bam Bam they try to tell a bit of a "story" in those three minutes.. See this video here.

RDP Regatta 2019

"Relentless"

Wavy Boat (Haul Over).

Either way for next season I have decided that RDP is not only going to cover events, but also cover the major holidays out here between Havasu / Parker.

Which would you rather see? A story style video of the weekend? or simple edit with boat make / model and back ground noise?

How are you covering the Havasu/Parker Holidays if your going on a summer long RV trip :)

I would like to see a mixture of both types of videos, but it has to be posted within days not weeks of the event!
When others media sites get videos posted the day of or day after an event, yet RDP is weeks after, my motivation to watch the RDP video is almost zero.

So many ways to shoot a vid ! One thing I will say, since we are mostly performance boaters, we LOVE the sound of the boats/motors. Over dubbing a soundtrack and not hearing those motors ripping , just doesn’t do it for me personally. So please, let us hear the good stuff when ya can.

I like both styles. I think covering the events with a story type would be cool, mixed in with some boats running and the noise of their motors. And then the holidays out there ya could do like the boat make and model and boat name if possible or something to that effect

really depends on how your using the videos i think. me personally i dont like any of those videos posted above. the one with music was annoying because of the music so i watched maybe 20 seconds and clicked off it, the others are just random boring stuff and should be broken up into short clips, they arent holding my attention for 10 minutes as they are...

i like how kyle at 1320 does his videos, he will show the cool shit at an event and talk with the owners/drivers etc about their cars and it kinda makes it a story that way. i tend to watch those types of videos all the way thru.

We could do some of that.. I'd like to get @BoostPower involved in some of that as we go into 2021.

I couldn't agree more. I could watch the Relentless/Havasu video over and over.

In some ways the "story" type alienates some if focused too much on individuals or small groups. Some of us are pretty easy to please: Boats hauling ass across water, people beached or rafted up having fun, motors set on kill. Remember...we gots porn sites for boobies ;)
Boat porn is a bit harder to find.

I preferred the first video, the music might not be to everyone’s liking but the video clips are short enough that it leaves you wanting to see more IMO. Maybe tone down the music and add some motor noise, not sure how you do that, but you can experiment.
The other two are just too long and spend too much time on one particular boat that you or I may or may not want to see.
The music whether you like it or not does add some excitement.

I really like most of the boating videos that KKJ media does. Less than 5 min lots of boating content, generally good music with motor sounds mixed in. This one is probably my favorite one of his:

I like videos that are informative. The interviews, builds, boat walk arounds and such. And yes I of course like the action vids as well. But the info vids add value seem to be what people are looking for. I think you should make them longer than 3 minutes. You could build a nice YouTube following and get monetized pretty quick I'd think. For ads to be placed at the beginning (and during if you choose) they need to be at least 10 min. I know a few people that do very well via YouTube ads and affiliate links.

I know my opinion means nothing because I am not a long time regular here....but I agree with a lot of what people are saying above....I like the videos with music, but you have to remember not everyone likes the same music, so i would limit it....most boat people, want to hear the boats in the videos., but dont really need 10 minutes of boats going by the sandbar...i like your video on top that includes some of the boating scene that is not just on the water...I think you throw in a few short soundbites of interviews...most people are not going to tune into 10 minute videos, I would keep most of them to around 5 minutes, maybe keep longer ones for special large events.

@RiverDave why have you not contacted Finnagan(sp) @cyclone, for example, And done a write up and RDP vids? I think you are missing alot of your audience by not doing such. Not all of us are "big boat cat guys" even though we enjoy that aspect of it, I personally would love to see some more write ups and stuff on the "little boats" as well..

The video is the key.
Music is OK IF you like it. And you can't please everyone so that's a risk.
Focusing on the sounds of the video (unless they're irrelevant or bad) with some music in the background works.
As long as your music works for the majority the viewers will focus on the video AND WATCH IT

I really like most of the boating videos that KKJ media does. Less than 5 min lots of boating content, generally good music with motor sounds mixed in. This one is probably my favorite one of his:

First 15 seconds = intro. WAY too long in a 3+ minute video
15-30 seconds = awful music. Turned it off ASAP

Intro with quick clips to showcase what is coming = Cool.

A whole 3-5 min montage of 2-5 seconds clips is for the ADD crowd of kids...I want CONTENT not CLIPS.

Voice/music over the entire thing is worn out as well, mixture of styles always works IMO....like several members have said, I want to hear the bark when they are on the pipe and the surge if they are not.....

Can’t please everyone. That song along with the video edit is why I like it. I don’t think most people would like the music I generally listen to daily put to a boating video. I do however listen to a number of different styles of music so if it’s in good taste I’ll probably like it.

This a great vid...

Scenes are short (mtv style)

Music is up front, real dialogue mixed in the background. Could be engine noise too.

Length is good

Content is good

Cons?

The music is Fucking awful!!! I couldn't watch that whole thing it was so damn annoying. Classic rock dude. Get some.

Tips...

The content should match the song. There is nothing worse than a vid that ends before the song is over. Timing is Everything. Add a short intro. Add a credits screen. Make the beginning and end match up!

This is a slideshow I made for Jay ages ago. It's far from great, but it's just an example of how the music and content should match (sync) up. And music no one will bitch about! LoL

I vote for Carter 😉

I like John Tuba’s stuff if that helps.

I like all your stuff Dave. However, I think when the music is annoying or over burdens the natural background 100% of the time it pulls your attention from the content.

As far as content do it all. Some things lend themselves to a music video and for me I like the documentaries. The tour deal you did on Parker and Havasu in general was pretty cool. Watch how Tuba covers different stuff. He will mix full audio, full truck sound and interviews in the same video.

Here is an observation.....

The Haulover Inlet videos are unique to South Florida, but watched by a nationwide audience, week after week.

What Havasu has that Florida and other spots around the country doesn’t have is the London Bridge and channel that accompanies it. A weekly video that shows the boats, girls, and overall scene at the Channel bridge area would certainly build a nationwide following like Haulover Videos. It has Hot Boats, Hot Girls, a fun scene, and beautiful backdrop. Identifying the particular boats, like on the Haulover Videos, would be a must. But it is the people on this forum that are the only ones who know what type of boats are at Havasu. Where I live..... nobody knows a Hallett, Nordic, Advantage, Magic, etc. That is another reason why it would grow a nationwide audience. The most bad ass lake boats in the country are seen week after week at Lake Havasu. No other place has quite the same scene!

I like both styles. Hearing the engines is always cool and music kinda gets you pumped up to get out there.

Don’t really get all the hate on music style, shit I can take 3 minutes of anything as long as the content is cool.

I don't know how many on here use Instagram, but I love the short video format with a brief (or lengthy) text caption below. Sometimes it's 20 seconds of a boat ripping across the water, sometimes it's just a pic of something cool like a specific engine part. If you can write something meaningful and interesting on even a seemingly boring pic/video, nothing beats that. Cool visual+insightful comment. And you can post many times a day if you want, I would love to see more boat stuff in my feed. You can also do longer 5-10 minute videos as well I think. Have those drop periodically when there's something worth making a video over. Otherwise the short stuff is usually more enjoyable and digestible.

I Really liked that vid. 👍

Hip-hop is cool. It's that house music crap that will have me turning ANY content off instantly.

Need to catch the lifestyle of the boaters and families. Videos of the boats running or beached and interviews with the owners and families nothing long just short shit. Music is tough to make everyone happy.

It’s not even a realistic goal to make everyone happy, so i personally think keep doing how you do and keep altering each one a little so every one of them is a little different.

I agree with above, and thanks for being dedicated to producing this content for us, get us through a lot of mid-week struggles to throw up the RDP and surf around!!!
