I was so pissed off that our elected officials forgot about the Vetrans when they left the VA Home Loan program off of the economic stimilus package that I fired off about a dozen emails yesterday to everyone from the Prez to McCain (figured the Dems could care less) to the Sec of VA to all of my congressmen (and women) to Arnold to all of the major news organizations and TV networks. I doubt if it will change anything, but I feel better. LOL

Nope, VA was excluded:

The Nation's Housing
Veterans' Loans Left Out of Stimulus Plan

By Kenneth R. Harney
Saturday, March 8, 2008; Page F01

When Congress and the White House put together the $150 billion economic stimulus package, they raised the maximum mortgage limits in high-cost areas for Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Housing Administration.

But lawmakers neglected to include a similar increase for the government's primary home purchase program for veterans: Department of Veterans Affairs-backed loans. While the limits of the other three programs now extend to $729,750 in the highest-cost areas, including Washington -- at least through Dec. 31 -- VA loans remain capped at $417,000.

If the vets are anything like my brother in law, they dont make enough from the military to even reach 417k, so they dont need to worry about it. Also, if you look into the new stimulus plan, you will find its only good for purchases and rate/term refi's. Many geezers out there are not buying new homes, and they would not refi unless they needed to pull cash out for a new pimp cane, so thats useless too. Old folks are going more towards the reverse mortgages (for who knows what reason, they could pull a lump summ cash out and invest it at a higher rate and make more money)

BTW: Im just pulling your chain. I dont know why they didnt include VA loans. Also have NEVER dont one, and have never been asked about on, so I really dont know anything about them. :D

the VA loan program has long been out ther for all the vets to take advantage of for buying a home... and is mearly just some creative, and extra money that the gov throws in to make the loans happen for the vets to purschase homes... it would suck to see this go away...

Agreed. My wife and I used my VA Loan and was the best thing ever. The Home builder wanted to jack us with this BS loan program 80/20 with high interest rates. All because I had a few gliches on my credit, with a score of 680. I got a hold of VA and all was fine. Now the home builder had to follow all these guid lines and couldn't pull any punches on my wife and I. They even told me I wouldn't quilify for VA. I alway's pays to look into things.

that is what the VA loans were designed to do. to help people just like you and other vets ...I cant tell you how mad I get to hear about .. contractors messing around with people... it gives the rest of the contractors a bad name ... when there really are good ones out there ..
