I don’t think it’s better than a van but to each their own.

The OBS trucks didn't come with an intercooler and those stood the test of time. What killed that era of 7.3 and the Superduty era is the stock airbox. OBS intake box has plastic tabs/screws that break and the lids never sealed tight. Slow death from dusting. One thing to keep in mind about the diesel vans.... (this is coming from a long time Ford diesel mechanic from Galpin Ford) the engine compartments are too small for an adequate intercooler (I know the 7 3's did NOT have one) so it leads to reduced power and reliability from the higher intake temps.
He actually suggested NOT ever buying a diesel van.
Maybe so. I have no idea what Fords came with what. I am just relaying information given to me by a very experienced and quality mechanic that has worked on every generation Ford Powerstroke. He said the Vans came in about 3 times more frequently than the trucks for those reasons. The OBS trucks didn't come with an intercooler and those stood the test of time.
