If the face gets too groved the low water pressure alarm will sound at idle and then go away once off idle.

Yea no need for an upgraded pump Dave. Just replace the wear plate and impeller... forever.

Well, finally done with the pump. There was a learning curve but next years will be easy. For reference, you might not even need to take the tensioner pulley off to get to the impeller. I’ll try next year. Anyway, release the tension and remove the belt. Four same size bolts hold the two pump halves together. You can leave the hoses on and remove the pulley side of the pump. Everything to replace impeller wise is on the pulley side. Get it out. New wear plates. New impeller and make sure it’s the same direction. Dish soap per the merc manual. The pump is brass and should not have any wear besides the plates. Kit is like $70.

Put the pump back on and tighten the bolts in a cross pattern. Now getting the belt back on. I couldn’t just turn the tensioner to put it on. It was too tight. Two bolts hold the tensioner on. One on top and one on bottom. I found if I tightened the bottom one then swung it left and put the belt on, I could use the tensioner nut and turn it to swing it back and line up the hole. Then Install the top bolt. Make sure to use blue loctite. I ran it on the hose
And checked for leaks. My first time doing it and will always do it from now on. Maybe the boat shops will be slightly less busy and can get one of you guys in sooner. [emoji16]

Here is some pages from the impeller kit for reference.

Ain't that the truth!!!! As an old boat mechanic, what was wrong with keeping the W/P in the drive? To me, it was so much easier than having to pull the seats, get down into some position that mankind was not built for, undo umpteen million hoses, bolts, nuts and whatever else to do something I have done 10 million times and can do it in 30 minutes.
