I had it on and off for years. Left the chiro one day to get calcium and b vitamins.....cant remember if that was for my back or my c-tunnel. Jumped out of the truck and proceeded to go all the way to the pavement. Mine would literally switch legs....would be fine 1 second then bam...goin down. Back then installed carpet and vinyl...mostly vinyl. The really bizarre part for me.....is it would always hit me 1 week after I layed carpet. Luckily when I quit banging a knee kicker mine went away. Sometimes if I sleep wrong it will bug a little. For me....the crack a practor didnt help.

Joker it is a great thing they caught it when they did.
If the doc thinks they can get it and she only has a 1 month recovery, that is outstanding.
My surgery was 1 year to recover, and they were not kidding.
We will keep you guys in our prayers as you move through this.
By sharing it here you never know who might read it and have their life saved.

I spent 3 years in misery doing all of the mentioned "cures"

Finally called Dr. Tomas Norton in Tucson AZ. 45 minute surgery and been better ever since!

Just read the thread and it's like one person said, 100 people, 100 different responses.

I'm on week 12 of sciatic pain. Steroid pills didn't touch it, norcos are a joke compared to this pain, and my dr wouldn't refer me to PT until now...

He thought I herniated a disk L3-L4, but current X-rays show degenerative disc disease and not a slipped disc. I'm going in tomorrow to push for a MRI, PT, and a referral to a back/spine specialist.

I struggle to get in the truck each day and make the hour commute to work. I'm going to focus on the stretching and walking around the office every 20-30 minutes. I refuse to believe that this won't get better nor will I accept that they know what's going on with only an x-ray.

Any PT or specialist recommendations for north San Diego county or South Riverside?

My wife had a procedure called a microdisectomy. Best thing she ever did. She went two months completely bent over, the worst pain ever. She was standing straight up immediately after surgery.

A MRI will show you what you need to do. X-ray does not show soft tissue.

My advice
Dr. Steven Dennis (Newport Beach)

My brother has it, sometimes can't walk. Doctor has to do an MRI, 6weeks wait. Hasn't been referred to a specialist yet. Dr. won't prescribe any medications, luckily we can get Ty 1's and ROBAXACET-8 both with codeine. Think you need a script for those in the states.

Went through 3 weeks of hell last year. All the different meds jacked up my system, no sleep. Walking was pretty much the only relief. I was walking the neighborhood 3:00A.M just to get relief. PT didn't help. Finally had the Epidural. It took 5 days to work. April first was 1 year relatively pain free.

Try the easy fixes first. Is her back in spasm? You can feel how tight her lower back is. Ice and heat alternate, muscle relaxers if that helps, until the spasm is gone. If that works she'll need to learn when her back gets a little tight to immediately ice and heat. If that doesn't help get an MRI.
Injured my back playing ball in high school then got into construction to really give it hell. A few auto rollovers, general abuse and finally going off a roof and breaking my back in three spots along with herniating multiple disks put me on the pain med roller coaster. Under the docs supervision worked my way up to 14-15 Vicoden a day.:eek Demanded surgery finally and it's been good for fifteen years.:D
Oh yeah, when I complained to the doc that I was taking way to many meds he said no problem, I'll up your scrip.:grumble:

Just remembered, if it's muscular Rolfing works wonders.

Was at the doctors again today. The x-Ray shows degenerative disc at L5-S1, but that spot shouldn't be causing my nerve pain.

Cancelled PT and re-scheduled the MRI. Said it's the only thing that can actually show the problem. Rest of my back looks healthy, so that's a plus.

Also switched from norco, useless for the pain, to gabapentin to calm the nerve for now.

I figure my care path will lead to the steroid shots in the back as well. Lots of walking, stretching, and core balancing until then.

Have a trip planned for the river, but can't even sit in the boat right now.
