Bone stock, they are definitely slugs. And the early non turbo ones? Most people can probably run faster! 🤣
I drove a uhaul ford E-van diesel back in about 98 or so…with a car hauler and a S-10 on it…I thought it was broken. Luckily I only had to go about 3 miles, otherwise I’d have pushed the S-10…woulda been faster.

The only good part was, you could dump pretty much Anything in the fuel tank, and it would Still run!

Used automatic trans fluid was pretty popular back in those days. 👍🏼😜

How about this set-up for overloaded?

Yes, that's a half ton 20 year old truck.
Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I agree that people do shit like this every day. Any State Commercial Enforcement Officer will eventually ruin that guys day.

If it had a utility body yes. Here we have the commercial truck enforcement. But they don't target half tons. They drive right by them. If it has a utility body on it and 2500 or 3500. You're getting the portable scales. I frequent the dump a lot. Used to be 5 days a week. Local demo company runs dump trailers and Tundras. They regularly pull in at 22-25,500 gross weight. No issues.

They better have registration for that combined weight or they still can get fucked.

IIRC California doesn't regulate pickup trucks. A Tundra is classified as a pickup and doesn't require any weight declarations. They can harass and ticket the F550 with a 20K sticker on the door if their GCWR is 20,001 lbs but the Tundras they cant really touch.

For slide in cab over Rv/campers there use to be a separate tag in the glove box that had a “camper” weight limit. That weight superceeded the GWVR. It’s been a while since I checked newer trucks to see if it’s still there. But otherwise GWVR is what it is and if you go over that’s all on you. It’s very difficult to find an all the bells and whistles cab over camper that doesn’t require a 1 ton.
Yep. Because of the high center of gravity for a camper every rating I’ve seen is lower than gvwr.
those saying 1 ton and 3/4 have same frame/brakes etc…generally true but some have bigger brakes. And for hauling a camper having a dually is WAY more stable. And compared to trucks from 80’s to mid 2000’s a newer duallys axle is way further back.

Ford and GM axles have always been in the 56" CA range. Dodges are 58" CA. This is long bed pickup trucks. Cab and chassis trucks are 60" CA.

👍 Interesting. By looks seems closer to rear bumper. Current Gen has a 4" longer wheel base than 90's-early 2000's.

When you say further back I'm thinking cab to axle distance. That 4" length your talking about is wheel base. They added that length somewhere between the back of cab to front axle. The front axle moved forward and the rear axle stayed in the same place.

Are people still buying “short bed” trucks? I thought that fad died with parachute pants and MC hammer videos?

Good luck finding a longer bed 1500. I searched and there was like 3 out of a few thousand. And colors and options sucked. 5.5' bed would not fit my toolbox in front of wheel wells. Ended up with a 2500. 2500 now has a 7' bed instead of 6.5 or the 8'. I already had a 8' and the 7' looks good imo.

Not true.

If your tundra is registered to 10000 lbs and you get pulled over and you have 10,001 lbs. you are getting a ticket. End of story.

Example.

Ram 2500 rated at 10,000 lbs
Bumper pull car hauler rated at 10,000 lbs

You are at 20k on stickers. You get a ticket for being registered only at 10k lbs.

Also any vehicle that is 10,001 lbs is required to be registered with a DOT number by FMSCA.

If registered to a business in CA. Personal trucks with no utility or flatbed they don't mess with. I drive by them all the time in my personal 2500 no weight sticker. My utility bed rigs get waved in. I bought that 2500 just to tow my dump trailers and not be harassed.

The guy with 4 tundra does the same. His bigger dump trucks all have weight stickers.

So how is a guy pulling a dump trailer not commercial use?

The cops don’t touch these guys. Same with the scales in Calabasas. 1/2 tons get waived right by. I realize they’re breaking the law but they don’t get touched.

Technically all the new 1 tons if towing anything but a boat, camper or toyhauler would require a weight sticker.

But 100% if a modified body like highlighted your getting checked.

My dump trailer was actually bought for personal use. I bought it 4 years before I ever decided to be a contractor so I am Technically not lying that it was for personal use. I just know with the truck I am driving now they flag me in. My little 2500 I drive by.

I told you guys...

The F150 doesn't have any limits.

Even the CHP knows this. 👍🏼😁
