The Daytona is now in optimization phase of the build and this year I’m wondering if a 5 blade prop may be a good thing to test.

Currently running a bravo 1 4 blade 32. Non labbed.

Slip numbers are in high teens at wot but when going 100 it’s tough to get accurate readings on guages as that not really what I’m paying attention to.

25 Daytona. Scx drive -2 lower. Transom assembly is 2.25” below rub rail so prop isn’t surfacing which I’ve read is where 5 blades excel.

Other buddies with Daytonas swear by em.

Any thoughts?

Curious about this as well. I went down a rabbit hole and couldn’t find any data.

I swapped to 5 blades. I’m not chasing top speed numbers and I’ve only had it out one time since going to the max 5s. It gets on plane way faster and midrange is incredible. I’d call Teague and talk to them. Even Tony at dcb offered to help me out and told me to give him a call.

Your slip #’s will drop, mid range pickup is pretty noticeable compared to a Bravo 4-blade.

If your current prop works well try to find a 5-blade with similar characteristics. Rake/diameter/ear profile. Drop a pitch or two.

I’ve been trying a 5-blade (P5x knock off), slip went down but it doesn’t carry the bow as well so I lost mph. This is why I would recommend similar characteristics.

I tried a 5 blade on my 400r when we had the 22 Shockwave. On that application, like others have said, better planing and mid range. For us, it gave too much transom lift, so I went back to a 4 blade Bravo 1. We ran the B1 FS which is vented and has the mercury racing "pro finish."

My boat rolls over fairly easy. Blows the prop out a bit but manageable.

The mid range is a rocket.

I think I’m chasing top end at the moment.

Would staying with the 4 blade and going up to a 34 achieve that?

Or is there a 5 blade that would?

Do you have a cavitation plate like the max machine Worx whale tail? Those are supposed to do wonders for planing. I think for top end, a 4 blade is usually your best bet.

On my 270 with SCX drive I run a labbed 30 Maximus 5 blade , the midrange is fantastic and the slip numbers are about half over a Bravo 30 . Also , since the slip numbers are down , fuel consumption is also way down also .

If you are chasing top end. Do not go to a 5 blade, you need go to a bigger prop or tweak the current 32? Are you on the rev limiter with the current prop?
